That would be fantastic, but I fear he is the one who left it there, on purpose.
Maybe he'll suddenly get excited because what he left had been found....I've known a few diagnosed NPDs that get all peppy when something they have purposely done to get attention (even if it was obnoxious) is finally acknowledged. They were kind of acting put out (normal demeanor) previously, then suddenly, Wow, all happy. It's very creepy to watch, and ugly feeling if you are in the middle of it. Like you've been slimed, and you can't get it off.

Stash, I hear ya and agree. I think it was with the remains, too.
That said, I think they are going to have to share more info with the public if this cross tip doesn't pan out. There's a fine line between showing their cards, and not having enough to go on to solve this.
I think it's safe to say that this guys' DNA is not on file, so he's not a convicted SO or felon. I think they got DNA off the backpack, and that's one of the reasons they were so quickly able to rule out the Cody kidnapper. I think they got a lot more after her body was found which cemented the fact it was his. Also, it was reported on the news that they were investigating ALL RSOs in the state of Colorado. And before her remains were found, they said they had techs on call 24/7 just in case they found any DNA. 35 agencies are on this. The cream of the crop. And it seems that the biggest clue is a $1.00 wooden cross. I just pray they solve this before he strikes again. I don't mind admitting that even 100 miles away, I am terrified. Justice for Jessica!

They may have waited so long because THEY were trying to figure it out themselves. And honestly, in that case, it would be better for them to keep hush, especially if they were feeling good that it could lead to the perp.

But you figure they not only had the same internet we do to search, they have full on experts to call in to examine it in person, to help them try to figure out it's history, style, etc. And it sounds like they came up empty handed. To be honest, we don't stand much of a chance finding it online ourselves. Their plea was not for people to tell them where they sell it, but for people to think hard if they've ever seen anyone WITH it.

I sure wish I could help answer that one!
Thank you, I feel another "duh" coming on. Totally makes sense that would have tried to find out who it belonged to themselves first, and that could take a while.

Newest Denver Post article, posted within the hour:

Westminster police: Cross could lead to Jessica Ridgeway's killer
---
Gregg McCrary, former FBI profiler from Virginia, said police obviously felt releasing the information about the cross wouldn't hurt their investigation.

"It's one of those things, you are always trying to weigh the value of releasing information and data to the public. You have to keep some stuff in house to filter out suspects."

McCrary said he is sure that the authorities conducted their own investigation into the cross — its origin, the significance of the marks and who could have owned one.

" I assume they have done all of that and it hasn't led them to where they want to be, and now they are eliciting help from the public," he said.

That could also have a backlash, he said. In cases where such little information has been released, people sometimes tend to overinterpret everything, he said.

There is such a backlog est. 400,000 nation wide of entering DNA rape kits into the database in many states it takes over a year. Anyone know how Colorado is fairing in regards to backlogs?

That is a very interesting take. I would like to learn more about this, would this symbol be similar to wrapping a child in a blanket, put someone near a graveyard or at their favorite place? Obviously a very twisted way of caring, but if so that could also help. But never-the-less everyone in that area needs to think hard about THAT cross. It is pretty darn unique, so I think they will GET him.

Yes, yes, yes! I think they have the person (from a DNA and profile basis) and just need that one tip (i.e. someone who knows the person that has at one time had this particular cross) to find him. LE has been able to rule out a few suspects in this case (Cody abduction, blue car kid trying to gain ex's attention, and the Liggett case). For LE to rule these cases out quickly, presumably based on DNA as stated in one of the cases, leads me to believe they have a DNA profile of the killer. That the cross, along with the unique markings, was released means to me that the cross contains DNA also found on other pieces of evidence found at the crime scenes, and that they have other pieces of evidence that are even more important to the case.

I hope this makes sense, I've been trying to write this post multiple times, and as I'm finishing it the post disappears. :banghead:

Would the cross hang from a necklace or would it be a bracelet? I think you're onto something. The key word, to me, is comfort. Is the killer remorseful? Is the killer trying to tell us something? Did something happen in the killer's life?

I hate to ask this. But...have they recovered all of her body?

  • #153
KellysGal, I think the cross fits with the story of a vampire, and it's a lot bigger than the one found. I don't think it has anything to do with Jessica's murder. But I'll bet after LE saw his Pattridge Park video, they kicked in his door. That was freaky!

I don't think we've heard if all of her body has been found.

There's more youtube videos that are just creepy when I checked earlier. That seemed to be a good home project or like mentioned above. Not sure about the acting though...

I just hope this dude isn't such a recluse that no one has a tip on him about the cross. But then again, anyone have an oddball reclusive neighbor???

I keep feeling this person wants the attention & fame. Sits in his home maybe like the tree guy who had bags of leaves on his walls and floors. Watching & reading the news. Chills...

I dont think it is a comfort cross, comfort crosses are much bigger than the cross they show.Comfort crosses fit in your palm.

I believe its what they call a pocket cross, here is a site I found that makes them, and actually gives them to inmates, they can also hang from a key chain , string for a rear view mirror, the site shows what they can be used for.
If you go to ORDER and scroll down youll see the choices.

I believe the one in question was made by an inmate.

My husband has 22 years in correction Dept. and when I showed him the pics, his reaction was , "oh yeah, they make all kinds of things, in fact ,I have a beautiful,1/2 of a peach pit, painted, with a Harley Davidson logo inside the pit half.It even has a hole to hang from a chain.Made by an inmate, way back in 88.

LE folks really need support and respect. They just do the job and don't look for accolades or support but they are the best.

I support this. They only have what they have. And doing their very best to find all. :rocker:

So...they are continuing to search for the rest of this girl? Jesus. Writing that makes me want to vomit.

This is exactly the point! Where they sell it is irrelevant - I have seen crosses like this in all types of places and for all we know the perp could have got it second hand.

The other point is that if the police released these cross pictures the day after discovering it, they would have been flooded with false leads. Now that the case has shifted to seemingly being more methodical, we will likely get tidbits until the perp is captured. They are being very cautious and I am secure they will catch him. I followed the Mickey Shunick case closely and there was so much going on behind the scenes - but they got him.
