How could the runner see the cross? Also what was released to the community in May about the attack? If cross was so prominent why wouldn't they have asked about it then? Did they not take the May victim seriously?

It seems odd that no one on WS discussed the May attack in the days after JR went missing. was that not out in the public? It just seems like people would have been saying, hey, is the May attack related to JR? And no one mentioned the May attack till a few days ago so makes me think they did not take that Victim too seriously - till now.

I saw at least one news report about it here locally before I ever posted here. I think national news was so focused on candy man in the blue sedan, that it kinda got overlooked.

Looking at photo #4 in your link, I've really become convinced that the three vertical marks are raised, not etched in to the wood. If you compare the shadows around them and the general way they look to the smaller lines near them (which appear to be indented), you can really see that the three large lines are raised and bumpy.

I don't think they're hatch-marks for victims or etched into the wood at all. Perhaps they have something to do with the 3-dimensional grain of wood used? Perhaps they were added in some other medium?

The zig-zag, however, looks etched to me.

BBM. I have seen others also question that. I think it is a bit of an optical illusion in some of the photos? The WPD FB page does specifically describe the three bars as "etched".

I don't think that the runner necessarily saw the cross, nor do I believe that LE didn't take her seriously. Reading B/W the lines, there is an obvious connection with the attack on the runner and Jessica. Maybe the chemical used, maybe DNA ON the cross that matches DNA found on Jessica and the runner. Sorry if this has been discussed.

Per that Rewind in the scanner thread. It says she stopped and talking to a teachers aide. Did anyone ever confirm this or has then been dismissed?

That was from the friend she walks with, so he is assumed to have been talking about the previous day (since he got he days mixed up).

We do not know that they got DNA from the cross...it could've been retrieved off the backpack or anywhere else from the scenes, even the fence.

:cow:

According to the police report released today, they do know that.

I also believe that LE is trying to obscure the runner's identity and asking MSM to "back-off". I'm sure this lady is going through as big a crisis NOW as she was when first attacked.

Local news just reported (ABC7):

"My guess is that the marks on the back of it have some semblance of maybe this has happened before or maybe he has made attempts in the past."

--JR's great-grandmother

(they seemed to be talking about the three slashes)

True but he could be familiar with the area by spending time partying there or doing other things (hiking, exploring, photography, etc). It may or may not be about the Funk Master Flex thing.
I agree he is familiar with the area. For sure. Just don't think he's going to take the time to go into that building and draw graffiti. He needs to be found soon! :please:

I'm sorry, I'm just following so many damn cases at once...I'm usually way more on top of my links.

I swear there was some sort of astrological storm in the first week of October, all the crazies came out. I can't keep up.

:furious:

So. Back to topic

The cross was found at one of Jessica's crime scenes but they won't say which one.

LE are wondering if the May jogger attack is related also.

I wonder if they swabbed her for DNA at the time? If she fought him off, she hopefully got something, maybe under her fingernails.

:cow:

bbm: Yeah, I think we'd all like to know if they have DNA also from the Ketner attack!

I'm wondering, too, still about possible footprints/shoeprints from both places being one way they were quick to rule out other possibles but consider Jessica's and Ketner case possibly linked. Maybe just an unusually small (or large, for that matter) size, say, or even the same shoe impressions. Can anyone comment on the two terrains and weather conditions in both cases -- whether usable tracks might have been left? Is the trail at Ketner paved or dirt?

How would three spots in a straight line, for instance, form a triangle? Like if the evidence spots were three exits in a row off of a highway?

Welllll , 3 points on a straight line DO NOT form a triangle. :floorlaugh::floorlaugh:

You know, someone said the area where she was found was a area teenagers?would go.They would bring girls to scare them?I didn't think much about that at the time.I'm starting to think who ever put little Jessica there might have known this area? What was the story about that again?Did LE find anything when they searched the area?

I remembered the report about the jogger because I ride and bike around here, too, and was very startled that someone used chloroform and it was so scary and audacious.

BUT, I personally didn't connect it because JR is so much younger than I thought the jogger was. I guess I just associate Jessica's killer with someone purposefully seeking children, but I could be wrong.

Can someone refresh my memory about the streets where Jessica's BP was located? It was Alpha and what other street?

I wonder if this cross was bought in the mall or hot topic or somewhere by a younger guy or somewhere? Someone on here said a head shop?Spencers?

I don't think light-skinned necessarily means not white. She probably did not get a great look at him and may not be able to tell an exact race. Lighter skinned Hispanic men, black men, or some sort of mixed race individual can be mixed up with someone who is white if you only have a fleeting, scary moment of seeing a person. Or, hell, sometimes even just in general. My boyfriend is often mistaken as Hispanic or something, but he is just plain old white and his ancestors don't even originate from that area. He just happens to have a very natural looking tan and darker hair.

I am assuming at this point they do not want us to eliminate anyone as a possibility-like, oh it can't be that guy who fits the description generally because he is white (or not white).

Personal observation only -

I have only ever heard that particular phrase, "light skinned" to be used when describing non-caucasians.

I have heard the term "fair skinned" used when a person is of a different ethnicity yet appearing caucasian, for example, Christina Aguilera identifies as a "fair skinned hispanic" (appears caucasian) not a "light skinned hispanic (appears hispanic)".

Small semantic difference there but important.

My opinion only of course.

The trail at Ketner is compacted dirt. Not paved. But still fairly wide (not like a narrow little hiking trail). Kinda like a dirt sidewalk going around the small reservoir.
