They hadn't taken DNA from anyone under 18; it sounds like his father did not live in the area, so would not have been one of the men swabbed.

His mother must be devastated. Poor woman.

They apparently got over 1000 tips. They have his DNA. IMO

Why wasn't he caught up with the DNA canvass? Did they cut off the canvass around his home? Did they not canvass the homes around the lake? It would seem that they would canvass around the lake and that this guy would have stood out somehow as being a but odd..

Of course we do not know if this is definitely true they didn't get him in the canvass but it sure seems like they only got him was bc he walked in...

They weren't taking DNA from those under 18 years old.

Who knows what kind of upbringing this kid had, considering his father had a history of assault, domestic violence, and alcohol and drug abuse.

I'm about 200 posts behind, doing homework with MY Austin. Did AS tell LE where to find the rest of Jessica? (I hate even typing that.

It has been reported that AS admitted to police that there are human remains in the basement (in a crawlspace) in his home. Nothing has been reported if they are Jessica's or of someone else, or both.

Earlier today, right after the arrest, a lot of sleuthing was being done and several posts made an assumption about AS's father being a local real estate agent. This is NOT his father. I don't know if they are even related, but please be careful about sleuthing suspected family members. I'm sure this is hard on many, many people, including AS's family, and innocent citizens don't need to have their names dragged into this.

(Just imagine if you were a real estate agent and your name got associated with this.)

I guess time will tell, but I think the only remains they will find will be Jessica's. JMO

More then likely they will be looking for victims or possible forgive me but " trophies" from humans to animals.

I will need and wait for proof on exactly what he did if they ever release it. My stomach hurts.

My stomach hurt when I saw and read all this too.I felt ill.But I am very glad he is caught.I prayed for Justice for this little girl.Now I pray it sticks in court.I won't be looking into any more cases for awhile just unidentified and my missing.I'm just too sensitive for all this.This really bothered me.

I wonder how they got it without parental consent? As a minor, they would have had to get his legal guardian's consent.

If his mother had consented, I think she would have waited to see what the DNA screen showed rather than turning him in herself.

this may have been posted already, but this is where the trouble starts. you can't not know something is wrong. it just seems like there was a lot wrong and maybe the really bad stuff was disguised by the other bad stuff.
this kid MUST have been seriously messed up in his formative years. not as an excuse for what he did, but as an explanation for how someone can do this/turn in to this. I still hold people responsible for their actions despite their origins. but I also don't believe people are born this way or that nobody could recognize that something was wrong with this kid/family. people just hope for the best and this is what happens.

This means that if her mother answered that phone call from the school, it was still too late.

That's what I'm thinking.

This whole thing makes me unbelievably sad. I know everyone is happy that he is caught, and I guess I am too, but ... it's just so awful. My own son is almost exactly his age. I am quite sure he isn't dismembering anyone these days, but I think what AS's mom is going through is probably worse than what JR's mom is going through. Maybe not, I don't know how to compare. Sigh. All these young guys going nuts lately ... I try not to be too upset when mine brings home a C, you know??

I don't remember who it was now, but I heard the parent of a murder victim on the radio saying exactly that--as awful a comparison as it is, he would much rather be the parent of someone who was murdered than the parent who has to deal with the reality of their son being a murderer. He was saying that he had compassion for the parents of his child's killer. Obviously a horrible either/or and one I wish no one would ever have to experience either side of, but I have to agree.
