RE: The area they are searching looks like it will span open space from CO 128 north to Hwy 36. It will also move west into Eldorado Canyon, which is west of Hwy 93.

Thanx for posting, OwlMom. The info released in today's briefing is very concerning. Due to the news of the westward focus, imo, this indicates that the investigation & search area has expanded and sadly may indicate a slight acquaintance or stranger sexual predator abduction.

IMO....if they REALLY wanted to get rid of evidence, it would be in a garbage dump, burned, buried....not set out in the open of a residential neighborhood...

I tend to agree with you about that. I can't think of a scenario where the abductor would wait for 36 hours or so (IIRC) and then drop the backpack in an out-of-the-way neighborhood in an effort to get rid of evidence. It seems that in the same period of time, he could easily have disposed of it in a much less conspicuous place.

That's why I think it was deliberately left there in an attempt to misdirect the investigation. I have no idea why it was left in that particular neighborhood, though, since it is apparently an out-of-the-way area. Maybe the neighborhood has some significance to the abductor, or maybe he just drove around aimlessly until he came upon the neighborhood.

IMO, if the abductor was calm enough to hang onto the backpack for so long before dumping/planting it (as opposed to dumping it in the nearest trash bin), then I don't see him being a panicky first time offender. I think the abductor has probably done this before, or has fantasized about it down to the last detail. JMO.

A part of me wonders if the perp lives in the backpack neighborhood, and maybe he gets a rise out of watching LE and the media from his window or when he drives into the neighborhood. Maybe he wanted to bring the "action" closer to himself?

here is the link about the neighbor

http://www.timescall.com/ci_2171973...g-westminster-girl-shifts?source=most_emailed

she, too, saw the backpack on the sidewalk around 8:15 this morning as she was headed out. She said it didn't really strike her at first because there often are children's bikes or toys left about in the neighborhood.

She said her husband currently was being interviewed at their house by FBI agents because he, too, saw the backpack.

Based on the linked article, it seems the backpack was found yesterday (Sunday)....imo

Was it Saturday morning or Sunday morning, do we know?

IIRC, the neighbor who REPORTED it (via email, then 911) said it COULD have been there as early as 1:00 am....but definitely by 8:00 am. This would have all been Sunday (although many of us think of 1:00 am as LATE Saturday night).

I understand where you're coming from.. but frequently people post on a yahoo group that my neighbors and i are part of and say SOccer ball found or bike found etc.. come pick it up! After he posted that someone emailed him or messaged him and told him the significance of what he found and then LE was contacted. He wasn't the only one to see it, his next door neighbor also saw the backpack sitting on the sidewalk as she took her kids to school.

Our neighborhood too. I'm sure he didn't think a thing of it. I might have done the same thing if I found it on my street but didn't recognize the name.

I guess what I mean is....the person who left the backpack could not have been LITERALLY trying to hide evidence (ie. never to be found again - like a shooter who dumps a handgun in a river, hopefully the weapon is gone for good).

Seems this perp was either sending a message, diverting OR attracting attention to that neighborhood, etc. KWIM?

I agree. The bag was set in the open and the perp hadn't removed anything identifying from the backpack. If he didn't want the backpack to be associated with Jessica, I think he would've removed and scattered the contents at various dump sites and then planted the backpack in the neighborhood filled with school children. IMO, the perp wanted to draw LE to that area as a diversion.

Another bothersome thought is that if the perp chose that particular neighborhood to plant the backpack for a reason, he's probably been scoping out various neighborhoods with young children.

I hope this guy is caught soon and that Jessica will be found safe!

Neighbor told me backpack was in upright position on st, as if placed, not tossed. Had 'Jessica' keychain hanging off it.

And to think we've been sleeping with our windows open in the cooler weather. This just terrifies me. We don't lock our doors when we are home and I let my kids bike to their friends houses alone. And there is someone out there like this who could have scooped them up...I so want her found, returned home and this perp locked up.

Yes to what everyone is saying about the backpack.

To me, it's a really really bad sign. Not just because it's indicative of Jessica's probable fate :( but because it's a bit of psychological terrorism. I think the perp was offended that no one noticed his successful abduction until late evening. He wants everyone to know that he is watching and that he can strike anywhere at anytime.

If they don't catch him there will be more children.

Hi all, I don't post often but read frequently!

I just wanted to say that something about the phrase 'there is a good chance she has changed clothes' bothers me. If the clothes she wore to school that day were found in her backpack, what makes them say she changed clothes, rather than them being removed from her body? If mom noticed additional clothes missing from her room, that would suggest that maybe Jessica planned to disappear (though I think 10 is awfully young to run away or meet someone online?) The wording 'there is a good chance she has changed clothes' implies to me voluntary action on Jessica's part and it isn't sitting well with me.

I agree with you about the wording, it seems odd to me. If there is a "good chance" Jessica has changed clothes, does that mean she did so voluntarily? Is there a reliable witness who saw Jessica after the abduction wearing different clothing? Did her mother notice clothes missing from Jessica's room other than what she wore to school that day?

I don't know why LE would say that and not elaborate on why they think she may have changed clothes, but they must have a reason. It just bugs me that I don't know what it is!:banghead:
