"We do not have any reason to believe there is a person going around abducting children,"

This is different from them saying that they don't believe. They're in fact just saying that they have no "reason" to believe, meaning that they don't have any evidence to support that at this time, IMO

Local news just said "she may not be wearing her glasses now". Dude. They must be in the backpack. It's like the perp is delivering a gift wrapped package saying "look what I did.". :-/

The statement they made about really looking at her picture and possible changes in the way she looks really makes me wonder what else they have????

I thought it was her glasses

The fact that they are asking people to focus on her facial features is a very good sign. This indicates that they believe she is still alive. I am probably the first to use that word. But it has been the elephant in the room. Last night, I had my doubts that Jessica was still with us. Right now, I have new hope. But someone needs to recognize her, and that someone may not be in the immediate area. She may be with someone who had her change clothing and then dumped her bag on the way out of town.

Statements like: 'Change of Clothes', and 'Change of Appearance'

They may consider posting some pictures of her without the glasses on.

I cannot help but wonder if they found something in the backpack to lead them to make statements like that. On a hopeful note, those statements raise the possibility of her still being alive.

[carbuff;8429633]I wondered this last night and still wonder it -- whether the neighborhood kids found the backpack elsewhere, like down in that stream in the open area, and pulled it up to the street thinking they were doing somebody a favor by rescuing the pack.

The detective in the late-night press conference Sunday night was pleading for parents to talk to their kids and assure them they weren't in trouble, so I think he's wondering the same thing.

I have been very impressed by Westminster LE -- they're thorough, professional, up to date, and respectful of the public without allowing it to jeopardize the investigation. They don't appear to have made any assumptions or left any stone unturned.

Might one of the kids living in the neighborhood where the backpack and water bottle were found have found the items at the neighborhood school where the bloodhounds tracked Jessica's scent? They may have taken it home with them Friday, thinking they knew who it belonged to. When they realized it didn't belong to anyone they knew, they could have set it out on the sidewalk in plain view for the owner to claim.

The problem with that theory, though, is that no one claimed to see the backpack until at least 1:00 Sunday morning. I'm sure there were teenagers playing outside until well after dark on a weekend night. But, maybe one of them decided to set the backpack out on display before going inside for the night, after asking around the neighborhood to find the owner.

ETA: If the perp didn't intend for the backpack and water bottle to be found easily, it would make sense that he would drop it off at a school while classes were in session on Friday - and not at the school Jessica attends if he didn't want her name to be recognized readily. I don't remember the name of the school in Superior where Jessica's scent was tracked, but I wonder if they have surveillance cameras on the outside.

throwing in my 2cents... just thinking that it sounds like the mom & jessica's schedule is pretty standard... so the perp may have been watching her for some time and got to know their exact routine & where jessica would be once mom went back inside. :( im so scared for jessica.

i keep thinking about sierra lamar & how her clothes were neatly folded in her "placed" bag. :(

The previous thread suggested that her address had been transposed and should be 10786 Moore St--which puts it three blocks from the park.

It's around 500 ft from 10786 Moore St. to the Chelsea. About the same length as a normal city block.

Not directed at you Hopeful....but LE (and the public) can't have it both ways. If a child WAS abducted by a stranger/criminal/predator then the public SHOULD be alarmed.

IMO, it seems incredibly contradictory to say it's NOT the family, but at the same time "don't worry, there isn't a predator/kidnapper on the loose" KWIM?

I absolutely agree with this. However, we all know that when there is an ongoing investigation....LE never release enough info that could tip off the suspect or taint potential witnesses and interogations of POIs....and in fact, may give out very misleading info on purpose.

They wont release details of the bag and it's contents so that when they finally do talk to people - the only people aware of those details are 1. the family and 2. the perp an obviously 3. LE

I have no reason to believe that family members are 100% ruled out until they are literally ruled out by LE (and I still may have judgement on that). In my own mind, I never rule out family members when it comes to a missing child or even a missing adult. But I wont go there and discuss since as of right now, there are no LE specific POIs. I shall keep all that in my head for now :)

Was there a custody hearing of some sort on Fri. or am I crossing over my cases?

Yes there was. The hearing was on Friday in MO, but mom and Jessica were in CO.

They are not working out of state. They are working in this area.

It just makes sense that her abductor would change her appearance to avoid her being identified readily. Take off the glasses, change clothes, cut hair and change color of hair. People need to concentrate on her facial features.

Witness info. states that she was on her way to school at 8:30.
