statistically speaking the rates are down, but due to population growth, the sheer number are increased. so yes it seems like it is more, b/c it is but not in relation to the population.
There is 100,000+ missing/murdered persons in the USA(actual number unknown).
How can crime statistics be accurate? There have been many documented cases of deep sixing of crime statistics by many State & local LEAs over the years for political purposes, as well as sloppy record keeping, etc.
JMO, the FBI NCIC is doing a much better job now than in the past, but at best the crime statistics are fuzzy math..
With that said. With DNA/forensics and other technology advancements: DNA Laws, FBI BAU VICAP, CODIS, NAMUS, Communication, Internet Awareness etc. I am optimistic
that violent criminals will be apprehended much faster now than in the past..The majority of violent crimes are committed by recidivist felons...
