The list is very long, human, and incomplete although updated 10/23/2012..

List of serial killers in the United States

Maybe I will read about the childhoods of them all, but it's a long list.

I only got through the "B's"

The childhoods all are horrible, some more horrific than others. But none are good, including that of Son of Sam who someone said had a wonderful childhood

I guess not.

bbm: Sigg is not a serial killer. :twocents: Sure he perhaps was turning into one but he has only one murder attributed to him so far.. and we don't know enough about that one yet as it is until trial. Surly not enough to label him a serial killer imhoo.

As for the gag order: that is necessary to ensure successful prosecution. It was not put in effect until the 25th: after his arrest. :twocents::twocents::twocents:

Well, we don't really know if he was or not. You're right about that. ..but if this was his first "rookie" kill, can you imagine how this would have likely escalated? Geez! Some of the most heinous and experienced killers couldn't wait to get rid of that first body. Thank goodness he didn't slip through the cracks. If he were allowed to age and mature after a "success" like this, honing his skills and having the sort of access his chosen future profession would have afforded him.... What a frightening thought.

There is no evidence as yet the Sigg was a serial killer. He hasn't been linked to any other murders. But this crime showed signs of being the work of a serial killer even before Sigg was arrested. It seems that we caught this predator after his first kill.

there has been talk on here of video games and TV having an influence. I imagine they do if we look at the research and see how the violence escalated in studies.

However, Ed Gein did not have TV or video games.

Jeffrey Dahmer did not have video games

Ted Bundy had little TV and no video games.

Charles Manson probably had no TV and no video games.

What they did have was horrible childhoods.

The Columbine shooters , at least one that I read, lived a difficult life at home

Charlie had a seriously terrible childhood and his run in with "Boyschool" was probably what broke him as a human. Ed I think had sexual "things" with his mom. The rest though, debatable because none of them do tell the whole truth. Just running off of what you said not debating it lol

Further investigations into other unsolved crimes will hopefully give us more info into his other crimes, if any. Personally I find it hard to believe Jessica was his first. Just seems so horrific to be a first.
I at least think he was doing horrific acts to animals for some time prior to abducting Jessica.

17 year olds are tricky ... you think you know them, but they're transitioning to the attitude that parents are rather stupid. That lasts until about 22, and then they realize that parents aren't that stupid after all ... at least that's my experience.

She may have had concerns about her son, but at the same time she probably saw the glass half full, and optimistically hoped for the best ... suppressing her worst scenario fears. It's sounds like the aunt was involved in somehow bringing Austin's mother to the point of contacting investigators. In any case, I suspect that mom accepts that the worst case scenario involved the loss of her home and vehicle ... just because she knew her son.

BBM: my Pop used to say something similar to me as a teenage. He'd say "You think I don't know anything now but by the time you're 25 you'll be amazed at how much I've learned".

My thoughts on AS' mom is that I can't imagine any mother thinking her child capable of what her's appears to have been. And teenagers are so closed about who they really are and what they are thinking about. I would imagine that AS had some pretty dark thoughts that, not matter how messed up he is, he knew were wrong and would not have revealed to her.

Accomplice(s)? Maybe but I don't see AS as the leader, more a follower. Could be there's an experienced leader out there who found the perfect follower or patsy.

Has anyone suspected bath salts? People who use them do some freaky sh#t. I just found out an acquaintance of mine is using them and turning into a freak. It's really common now as they don't show up in a drug test and no way of knowing. If you're semi freaky anyway, it would be easy to get into this stuff.

This is a very interesting theory. I am curious to see if he has dabbled with drugs in the past...

nursebeeme, Austin Reed Sigg, is not officially labeled a serial killer. Imo this is simply due to semantics and a more fortunate jogger victim escaping his wrath in May 2012, five months before Jessica Ridgeways abduction/dismemberment/murder.. Although this more fortunate victim escaped with her life. Her life will never be the same. How many other victims did AR Siggs have? How will we ever know with a gag order issued?

Nursebeeme, seldom are gag orders issued in high profile trials, but when they are, imo it has very little to do with successful prosecutions...

Below is an example of a successful prosecution of a child predator where a gag order was not issued...

Girl Asked Killer If She Could Go Home
http://canton-ga.patch.com/articles/jorelys-asked-killer-if-she-could-go-home

Bound, gagged and with a slit throat, 7 year old Jorelys Rivera was still alive after being assaulted by Ryan Brunn...

*************************************************************

If convicted, Austin Reed Sigg, who turns 18 in January, would become the exceptionally rare teen killer who mutilated or dismembered his first victim, a little girl who lived in his Westminster neighborhood.

Jessica Ridgeway case: Sigg would be rarity among killers if convicted
"Nobody just wakes up and does this one day," McCrary said.

There must have been earlier evidence, said Roger Depue
, a retired chief of behavioral science for the FBI who teaches about violent crime behavior at the University of Virginia and through his company, the Academy Group Inc.

Ah... I immediately thought of Ryan Brunn when AS was apprehended. But his case didn't go to trial, it was a plea deal very quickly. Maybe they are already anticipating AS's trial based on his current behavior.

If law enforcement has evidence of other victims we will probably hear it in court tomorrow.

If the crime scene was at his mother's house, then we can assume Jessica did not live through days of torture, correct?
In which case we can assume the video posted Sunday night after she went missing was a cruel hoax.
In which case his confession may be true to some degree.

if the crime scene was elsewhere, he could have kept her alive for 3 days, made that video, and lied in his confession.

thoughts?

shanmosphere, imo he was involved in drugs and more than likely meth related. There seems to be an epidemic of psychopathic personalities created due to chronic meth use, imo.
I would also be more interested in his adolescence 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 addiction and the specific reasons for his required treatment..

stillwater, Ryan Brunn, first plead not guilty, later grew a conscience, then plead guilty in a plea deal for LWOP to escape a probable death penalty sentence. Then committed suicide in prison days later..

The recent article about AS's family background suggested that he and his family made camping trips to Wyoming. Since Virgin Island Authorities and other Colorado LE agencies are interested in AS's behavior/whereabouts, while in their jurisdictions, it would be wise for Wyoming officials to determine where AS visited in Wyoming and when.

"They went camping or to the lake in Wyoming," said Fox.

Not sure. He drove his brother to school, and the college he attended was several miles South of Westminster. He must have needed a vehicle to get to school. Maybe his mother didn't need the car for work, and maybe his father gave him something to use for school. The house has a double garage.
If the family only had one vehicle, AS could have driven his mother to work and his brother to school, then used the Jeep during the day to go to classes and do whatever he wanted.

If AS was doing the driving, he could exactly predict when the other people in his house would return - they would have relied on him to bring them back.

Pure speculation on my part - no proof that this is so.

Imo, many folks do not understand the impact on a victim of an attempted abduction. The following testimony of Candice Moncayo; Jogger & victim of attempted abduction of sexual predator/serial killer John Gardner..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=LzbX08KilWo

During his sentencing of the murders of Chelsea King and Amber Dubois, John Gardener faced a victim of his that got away by fighting back...

Any chance the recent teen child murderers in Wyoming knew AS?
That would be Bazarro!

I too thought of Ryan Brunn and his horrific kidnap and murder of poor little Jorelys Rivera. I actually said on the first day remains were found at PP open space that I was convinced the perp would be similar to RB. Only pray that like RB, AS acted alone. The thought of anyone being involved gives me a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.

I think AS acted alone but talk of the odd/chilling youitube video, that has since been taken down wherein at least two teens appear to take credit for Jessica's abduction and torture, scares the holy heck out of me. Thankfully, so far we have gotten no indication from LE that there was anyone involved but AS.

The more cynical less optimistic side of my nature wonders just a tiny bit if the gag order involved has anything to do with LE continuing to investigate if anyone else was involved :(

And if I remember correctly, BRunn hung himself in jail.
