My sister Homeschooled for 6 years because of her child's health issues using on-line classes. Other dance moms homeschool and their kids get plenty of social time with competitive dancing. Most homeschoolers I know are involved in extra-curricular activities, arts, sports, etc. They can be more involved even because they can work their school schedule around these activities. At the high school level, some take community college classes earning high school & college credit at the same time. That is the modern homeschooler.

My children are home schooled and they socialize wonderfully. My 21 year old, in 11 th grade, received a full scholarship to Gatton Academy,(gifted HS for math and science) the #1 public school in the country. When he graduated from there, he was already a second semester college junior, and received another full scholarship for the completion of college, plus an extra year. In May he received a BS and double major in biology and physics. He has been offered full scholarships and living expenses for grad school, from University of Tokyo and Dartmouth. He is currently in Tokyo doing astronomy research...A scholarship offered by the Japanese govt. My son has tons of friends and is kind to everyone. My other children will be friends with anyone. They are kind and respectful. They have been in plays and music recitals and no one has fainted. They go to a camp for children with health problems and disabilities and get along with everyone, no matter what. Two of them have received a scholarship to a gifted academic camp each summer and their teachers have been amazed with them. These children also know how to take care of themselves. They grow and can/freeze/dehydrate a huge amount of their own food. They also know how to share that. My daughter makes her own clothes and some of her brothers. They are domestic abuse survivors and know how to do without. They can find joy and fun in almost anything. They are nothing like another poster wrote. Neither are any of the other home schooled children I know.

thistle, I would agree, but with the therapy for ARS for addiction at the age 15 is more than very revealing, imo. The obvious signs were there, but ignored/denial, imo.

Correct me if I'm mistaken - was this " addiction therapy" confirmed by a legitimate source? Was it his aunt that stated he had undergone therapy?

Assuming that it is an accurate account - was more information provided other than that one statement? Could it have been an over-reactive form of therapy such as the type that attempts to "cure homosexuality"?

I have a 15 year old boy and as a mother I'd be more concerned about his sexual health if he wasn't interested or curious about nekkid images. Of course there are extremes that could reach unhealthy levels... but not knowing the true reality of ARS's "addiction" I think it is a bit premature to make a foregone conclusion about the nature and magnitude.

Agreed, nikb, a preabduction plan is critical in abductions, especially when stranger on stranger crimes occur. Time is of the essence and all available resources must be initiated. Most big box retailers; Sears, Walmart, etc., have an abduction pre-plan; Code Adam, yet it is amazing how many LEAs don't have a pre-abduction plan in place.

The Westminister Police Department seems to be a very professional, proactive, and well trained LE agency, obviously utilizing every available resource in the Jessica Ridgeway abduction investigation.

However, the silence in the previous abduction attempts concerns me...

Ummmm.... nice. I homeschool. 6 kids. The 2 oldest are adults. No drugs (ever!) & everyone tells me how awesome they are & what a GREAT job I did.. I guess behind our backs they must be whispering about what freaks they really are???

Believe it or not, there are people from all walks of life here....

(oh, and I went to school & public speaking is probably the WORST thing that can ever happen to me. I've always been horribly shy & it never got better.)

Most of the home schooled kids I know are better socialized than a lot of the kids at public school. And strangely enough, have a better education, although I am sure there are some exceptions.

I guess it all depends on where you live and what kinds of people (homeschoolers included) you socialize with.

The leaf pics are of the leaf that fell out of my hair when I got in my car...feel like Caylee was letting me know she heard my prayer and enjoyed the small gift! The smallest pic of the cross was taken from the edge of the road. The water pic is directly to the left behind the cross. The yellow flower was growing beside the cross. The angel figurine is the one I bought from the Hopesprings neighbor who was setting up a garage sale. I wrote R.I.P Sweet Baby Girl on it. There were 2 sharpie pens on the ledge of the cross.The whole tree pic was also taken from the edge of the road behind my car. I was quite surprised that the tree was still there. I guess nature will eventually reclaim it.

I did not take a picture of the garbage can. I picked up a few pieces of trash. I wish I had gotten a garbage bag and placed it in the front yard of the "Evil Grands!"..(does that make me a Meanie??) Their house look totally quiet...no cars parked outside..grass was well kept.

I had to pull the vines off the For Sale sign. Hoping that a wealthy person on Websleuths will buy the lot and make a proper memorial for our sweet Caylee.

Hope this gives y'all a feeling of what Caylee's Site was like. It was very quite and no cars passed by. I could hear the children from Hidden Oaks Elem...so sad that Caylee should have been there and in First Grade!

After the May 2012 attempted abduction of the jogger. The family conveniently took a vacation out of the country. Officials there were very concerned by Austin Reed Siggs presence, yet the citizens of Westminister only received silence by their local officials that a predator was active in their community until after Jessica Ridgeway's abduction/murder..

Thank you - I wanted to be sure that I hadn't missed any other "reports". Considering HIPAA - I don't think a gag order will make a big difference in the end. I personally would not go by the word of a "family member" to accurately assess the "addiction".

As I mentioned in my other post... this "therapy" could have been the result of extreme personal or religious philosophies or severe depravity... IMO -it would be difficult for us to determine the real depth and magnitude of this "addiction" without knowing all the facts and circumstances... and it is unlikely that we would ever privy to that information.

Have a link, pinto? There were numerous abduction attempts in adjacent jurisdictions to Westminister, constituting an epidemic, imo. Due to jurisdictional linkage blindness/communication issues among LE agencies, the dots were not connected, imo...

Many folks do not watch the news or read the paper. Especially single moms that work the graveyard shift..
Were the local schools notified? Were there flyers, emails, or alerts issued to the community?
I get phone calls/emails from my local govt officials when there is a weather alert, and I live in a very rural area of the north GA mountains...

That's pretty on par with what I think went down as well. His MO is that he comes up from behind and places a rag over the mouth. I'm wondering if he takes the other arm and does sort of a choke hold move or if he grabs around the waist? I don't know why this fascinates me but either way would be terrifying however around the waist would be easier to fight your way out of (I think). Do we know what time(s) these happened? Afternoon wasn't it?
