The 2010 attack at Ketner is the one that strikes me as having a stronger change of being AS. The link below is from before AS was arrested, but since his arrest I have not seen any reference to the 2010 attack, which makes me wonder if even it isn't related. Any thoughts?????

About 1:15 p.m. on May 28, 2012, a 22-year-old woman was jogging on a trail around Ketner Lake when a man grabbed her from behind and tried put a rag with a chemical smell over her mouth, police said.

I've followed the case fairly closely, and I have read absolutely nothing about Austin and Craigslist advertisements.

a week or two after JR went missing it was discussed and I can't remember now if there was proof AS posted the CL ad but I thought so.


Interesting about the police mentioning specific things that were said during the Boulder sexual assault. I wonder if he said things about wanting to kill her or cut her up?

Exactly. He kidnapped Jessica one cold morning while she was walking to school. He murdered her, dismembered her, and left evidence in at least three different locations: home, the culvert on 82nd Avenue, and Superior. He is connected with an assault on a woman at Ketner Lake in May of this year. There is absolutely nothing to suggest that he had an embalming lab in his crawl space, or anywhere else. There is absolutely nothing to suggest that anyone else was involved in his criminal activities. There is nothing to suggest that he was sophisticated. He's an average, every day sociopath that targeted women and children for self gratification.

The guy is just a high school drop out with a GED who had just started to attend a community college. He left evidence all over the place. He is not a genius. He is just a sociopathic killer.

We know that he was involved in another crime prior to the murder of Jessica since he is connected with the assault on the woman in Ketner Lake.

I personally don't think he was that into embalming. I think he went into that field to be closer to death and dismemberment. I don't think he got into dismemberment b/c he loves embalming, but rather the opposite.

A daylight photo would demonstrate this much better ... one of our posters took photos there right after the scene was released.

If he was successfully raping adult women, why abduct and kill JR????

Good Question. I work in EMS in Boulder, just a rumour about his DNA, but the description says he was driving a dark colored jeep.

the police have said they don't link or connect crimes to each other lightly (for legal/court reasons). they will need concrete evidence or confession to link them. but I think there are a lot that could be linked to AS that LE is looking into.

very true. but I also think he's been getting away with things, or at least being ignored/unnoticed enough in his life to believe he can do what he wants without a lot of repercussions.
(a busy single mom with financial trouble is not likely to be involved in a great deal of supervision over her almost adult child)

Heres the timeline of events as I imagine them to be.

I find it possible that AS was involved in the 2010 assault at ketner lake, although LE has not linked them. We know it is fact that he was involved in the more recent ketner lake rape/assault attempt due to dna link via LE.

It is fact that he took Jessia, sexually assaulted her and abused her remains.

I posit that he tried in the 2010 attempt and was thwarted. He manufactured some chemical to facilitate gaining control of the woman more recently at ketner lake but was still unsucessful.

He begins channelling that rage and aggression (if he wasn't already into animal torture and killing.) This feeds his sick urges for a while and he enrolls in the forensics course and explores a carreer in mortician sciences. I believe this is when he realises that simply raping someone will not be enough to satisfy. He needs to inflict pain and violate more completely, more finally than rape will allow.

Enter Jessica, alone, small of build, weak and vulnerable, much like the animals he has been "playing" with of late.

This of course is simply my own speculation about AS progression as a killer. I believe wholeheartedly, with every fiber of my being that AS was just beginning. He would have been a serial killer unapprehended. And as he himself reportedly stated to LE killing Jessica did not give him the joy he expected it to. His horrendous acts would have continued, excelerated.

I feel just as strongly that Jessica was his first human kill.

In the winter, it can be very, very cold in Iowa and even if it isn't actively snowing, the wind can be blowing snow. Most of the farmers I know that do their own mechanical work have some type of heater to take the edge off the chill but it takes quite a while to build up the heat to a semi-comfortable level. Just makes sense not to open that whole door unless you are quite certain you are done with that vehicle.

When working on a vehicle, there are times when the mechanic will need for the vehicle to run as long as 15 minutes or more; for instance, sometimes the problem is only apparent when the engine has gotten really hot. Or they fiddle with the insides, test it by starting it, listen, cuss, fiddle some more, lather rinse repeat. Um, the cussing step is usually repeated more than once per cycle.

And yet it is my observation that working on engines is quite often very satisfying to the person who knows how to do it.

Over and over again the following question (rhetorical) runs through my mind daily as I follow this case: Is there any subj that GrainneDhu and Otto aren't well versed in?!?!?!?
