Ted Bundy craved attention and, up to a certain point, he was more than willing to tell anyone who would provide him with attention whatever it is that person wanted to hear. James Dobson went into that interview with an agenda and Bundy was perfectly willing to fulfil that agenda.

I think it was Bob Keppel who said that unless you knew the details of the suspected victims of Ted Bundy inside and out, it was no use interviewing Bundy because he would confess to just about anything. I think it was Bob Keppel who observed that there was a pattern to Ted interviews: in the first few minutes, Ted would try to slip some lie past the interviewer and if the interviewer didn't catch it, the rest of the interview as worthless.

As for 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬, the crude statistics say that violent crimes have gone down as access to 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 has gone up.

Oh yes, GrainneDhu, he was quite the chameleon and he was very quick to figure out what the interviewer/victim/professor/girlfriend wanted to hear, so he gushed to whomever it was. Dobson wanted to talk about Ted's immortal soul, and Bundy acquiesced (made me sick to my stomach) -- which I'm sure just warmed the cockles of Dobson's heart. TB was a master manipulator -- he had had plenty of practice. Glib, smooth, and he probably pleased a lot of his teachers when he was young. Yes, another coup on Ted's little self-brag board, but I do think he was speaking some truth about the 🤬🤬🤬🤬.

IMO, the probably extreme stuff that TB was probably viewing made him increasingly cruel and even more soul-less. Fuel for the fire, since I think he got better & better at his captures & kills. And his last forays, down in Florida, were way over the top, even for him. I think that was because he had been incarcerated for a while & his evil "needs" were 'way boiling over by that time.

Was ARS headed for something similar? I hope we'll never know....

I find it interesting that when an execution takes place, the Death Certificate of the executed individual lists "Homicide" as the Manner of Death (at least in NC it is -- a detail which I add with trepidation). On logical terms, what else would it be, but it's just an interesting twist to me.

The definition of homicide is: the killing of a human being due to the act or omission of another.

So, even though it was justifiable because it's sanctioned by the state as punishment for a crime, it's still homicide. If you kill someone in self defense, it's still considered a homicide because one person caused the death of another.

Some homicides are criminal and some are not.

After you have watched a mental illness, a drug or alcohol addiction, first hand, it can be any one of you guys opinions. ty

If it was mental, it could be that maybe mom & bro, especially, don't know if dad knew or not, sat in fear for the past few years at least when AS started acting weird, possibly having to deal with the juvie system here and there, police too? It's horrible to witness a family trying to cope and help that person daily. Denial and all the rest enter their minds. It wears them down terribly. If it's that, I feel for them. I pray mom & son get plenty of help. No matter what, I feel for them. I think they have been scared. jmo

I just keep thinking about the younger son having to walk back into his classes at his school, sitting at his desk & trying to keep up with what the teacher is saying, and probably dreading having to go to lunch in the school lunchroom -- Will his friends sit down with him as usual? Are other students pointing him out to others who don't know who he is? How is he getting home from school now? And life isn't a bed of roses for any middle-schooler, no matter what. It's such a weird time of one's life anyway -- half adult and half child.

And I'm sure his mom is very worried & concerned about all aspects of his life. She probably doesn't have the kind of money it would take to just pick up and move which would be better for both of them. Can his father help them start over? Again, I must say, she does still have him; happy little Jessica's mother will never have her sweet daughter again; but still, it must be unbearable for Mindy Sigg.

I just read this. Interesting as we read about stuff daily we really don't want to know. To make public juvie murder or abuse. I really don't want to know any more than what I do know or can imagine from the news that has been put out, but I'm brave enough if they do put out more.

snipped

She praised a new state law which will allow DHS to provide more information to the public when a child dies or suffers severe abuse, but said more should be done. She also said the Colorado Office of the Child Protection Ombudsman has increased neutral oversight of the Department of Human Services.

I'm not sure Ted Bundy had access to extreme 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬, at least not while growing up. He was born in 1946, so his years of puberty were probably from 1955 to 1964, more or less. Back then the Betty Paige dominatrix pictures were considered pretty extreme (whereas today they are considered erotic art and have appeared in museums).

Distribution of 🤬🤬🤬🤬 was a big block to underage kids getting hold of it. It wasn't like today when anyone can fire up their computer and surf the web. Playboy magazine was founded in 1953 and was groundbreaking because even though it had pictures of nekkid ladies in it, it also had articles and the production values were high enough that it was acceptable to sell in mainstream stores (albeit often in a brown wrapper or behind the counter). And it was cheap compared to the 🤬🤬🤬🤬 of the day (about 50 cents per magazine vs $10 per piece of traditional 🤬🤬🤬🤬 at a time when the minimum wage was very low).

I too remember the days when kids were protected from these things.

Plain wrappers, sealed sections in the magazines.

Now, even on the free TV website I go on, there is offers of sex and 🤬🤬🤬🤬 that just flash up unrequested.

The 🤬🤬🤬🤬 is usually disgusting, very shaming for women, and it's getting worse. I'm no prude but I worry myself sick about my kids logging on and being exposed to this rubbish. What can we do? Nothing...they can even get it on their phones now.

What's really disturbing, is there is a market for this disgusting, violent 🤬🤬🤬🤬. A big one.

OT sorry - but me too. I use Chrome as my browser and discovered AdBlock - it's fantastic and no more of those irky 🤬🤬🤬🤬 popups. My young teenage sons and I watch favourite TV series online together at night and it was terribly embarrassing trying to quickly snap those popups shut while we were all perched on my bed for some evening cop shows on my laptop!

BBM, and jmo and no offense intended, the good Doctor has been talking about it ever since. Gag. Just one of those things I am touchy about since I grew up hearing Dr D revered by the "Good Christians" in my school and church who were worse than no help when I had a mental illness.

I agree, Grainne Dhu, that TB probably wouldn't have had access to heavy-duty 🤬🤬🤬🤬 when he was young -- but I think it was something he did right up until he was captured (those several times!). I think as he got "wiser" and better at his horrible crimes, he still used 🤬🤬🤬🤬 as a pastime and it acted as a trigger to fuel his fire. Certainly it was not the only trigger, but I think it was part of it...

I also wonder if ARS did indeed research/look into TB and his life to see how he operated. That just makes me cringe and <smh>.

Oh, I'm with you 100%, PlainJane. I do not share his views on many things. Let's leave it at that. (Please excuse if my mentioning him brought back bad memories. I was in no way promoting him or his values.) Enuff.

Thanks, PJane! We could probably have one rip-roaring conversation....but we need to get this guy where he belongs first!

There is so much that is just plain sad about this whole deal. Just plain sad. This case has really snagged my heart. And I'm sure I'm not the only one...

However, contrary to what he said to JB (the minister), extreme 🤬🤬🤬🤬 couldn't have been an influence on him during his formative years. In fact, extreme 🤬🤬🤬🤬 was not widely or easily available even in 1978 (the last time he was captured). What extreme 🤬🤬🤬🤬 existed was also extremely expensive ($20-40 for 10 pages or so of photos during that era). Bundy never had that much money and what he did have, he was spending on gasoline.

There just doesn't seem to be much information out there about ARS. Maybe he was a serial killer in the making... but maybe he wasn't. The results of his psych evaluations will be interesting to read if they are ever made public (and I wonder if he will undergo a psycho-sexual evaluation as well).

Random thought since I know we don't have much to talk about these days...

ETA: I meant to add a warning, the rest of this post might be graphic for some. Not directly related to this case, but still pretty graphic.

I was watching Doomsday Preppers last night (I know, I know, embarassing), and there was this fairly young kid on, I think 14 or 15? He was really into making weapons and particularly weapons that caused a lot of bodily damage. Knives, nails put at the exact angle into a baseball bat, etc. He described stuff in detail that I NEVER needed to know. My husband was even creeped out. The kid was prepping for the end-of-the-world of course, but he knew wayyy too much about how much damage the various weapons caused. It was actors but supposedly based on real people, so who knows, maybe they were just over-dramatic but it made my blood run cold.

The kid's TV-Mom was interviewed and was concerned, said she knew she could take away the weapons, but said he'd "just make more or hide them better" (I'm paraphrasing, I can't recall exactly how it was worded). She looked really disturbed. He had a "team" of sorts for Doomsday because he knew he couldn't go it alone, but it was all self-preservation. People had to interview/try out. His mom asked if she'd be part of his team when he "bugged out" and he said no, she'd weigh them down. The kid seemed to have no heart or soul, it was weird. She said "Your own mother?" and he looked at her stone-faced like she was crazy to even ask. The whole time I kept thinking "OMG this guy is ARS!" I might've missed it if they said it early in the show but later cutting away to a commercial they said "and here's how Austin is preparing for doomsday..." I'm sure my family thought I was nuts when my jaw dropped open and I jumped off the couch. Seriously, Austin??? I don't even know when the Doomsday show was filmed and strongly doubt it would be related, but it sure had a lot of similarities.

Hope it's ok to share, I think you guys are the only ones that could possibly relate!

(Just for the record.. I don't know ARS, or his family, or even if the story above fits, but it was obviously hauntingly familiar to me from what I've read. All IMO though.)

I don't recall any discussion about weapons, or police/media reports about weapons being seized either.

Jmo, I can't imagine living with a kid who said that to my face. I mean I know some people talk a tougher game than they could really ever put into action, but...:what:

Sorry to quote myself but I just realized I don't think the people on that show are actors. <shudder> I'll have to watch it again or see if I can find it online. The picture from the show gave me nearly the same exact chills down my spine as when I first saw ARS' pic. I'm not sleuthing minors (other than ARS), I promise, just looking up what was already aired on national TV. And it was creepy.

I don't either, but she had to have.. err.. ended up the way she did somehow. All along I've been thinking surgical type tools more than likely, but IMO there are other possibilities.
