I have unfortunately not followed this case closely since they found Jessica's body. In fact, reading this thread is the first I've heard that they arrested someone for her murder. I am extremely grateful to hear that.

I have a close personal connection to this exact neighborhood and to Witt Elementary - where my oldest daughter attended kindergarten and first grade. And, that is part of the reason why I couldn't bring myself to follow this after I knew the outcome. It scared me, and brought me back to when we lived in that neighborhood, even though we live over 1,000 miles away now...

My children went through some pretty bad stuff at the hands of several of the boys living in our neighborhood (14 years ago), and I have always in the back of my mind thought for SURE there is some adult there that is teaching these children these sick things because the ages of the ones who hurt my daughters... well, it just didn't make sense for them to figure it all out on their own. (And, I'm not of the mind that watching a movie, or a video game causes a child to act out in the way the characters do - although I know that many lawyers and others do.)

Finding out that the person who did this lived in our old neighborhood - only 2 blocks away, and that he was a teenager just makes me that much more suspicious that something is going on and that these boys aren't just "picking this up", etc... I realize the time lapse, but 2 of the boys who hurt my daughters were very, very young (too young to even be charged with any crime - the 2 older ones were).

I don't want to go into more detail than I already have, but has there been any discussion about what was going on in this kid's life - or of anything that could fit in with my long-held suspicions regarding some adult in the neighborhood that is possibly abusing these boys in some way? [NOTE: This obviously does NOT make ANYTHING any of these boys did OK, just that if some __(fill in the blank)_ is hurting these kids, then more children WILL be hurt...]

Have the police ever mentioned the names of his friends at all? I know that one of my daughters' perpetrators moved out of the neighborhood, but I don't know about the other three...

I just don't know if I can get through all 50 pages of this thread, honestly. Like I said, it is very, very hard for me emotionally. My daughter even shares the same first name as sweet Jessica (may she RIP).

NOTE: If an Admin or someone wants to ask more in-depth questions, please feel free to contact me via PM. My daughters are both adults now, but I want to respect their privacy as much as possible. I know that I have their permission to discuss it all in general, but I would have to ask them for their permission to state anything specific on this public thread. All parties were minors at the time, although the main perpetrator is supposed to be on the sex offender registry for life (I haven't checked if he is compliant to be honest as we've tried so hard to move on...).

Thanks for anyone's input, or answers to some of my questions. Especially if anyone has heard anything - even a rumor - that may indicate that there is something more to this than perhaps meets the eye (like why a teen would do something like this). AFAIK, up until JR's case, ours was considered by Jeffco prosecutors as one of the most disturbing cases they've ever worked simply because it was all children involved.

If anyone in Jessica's family, or those close to them see this. My prayers are with you, and have been ever since I heard she was missing. I am so happy to hear that they found the person who presumably did this to your precious daughter. I know it will never stop the pain that you are feeling, and I know what it's like to have to go to court and face people similar to this, um, person... You will ALWAYS remain in my thoughts and prayers. May God bless and comfort you all - especially as you go through the ordeal of the trial.

NOTE: I just read another article that said the suspect lived in Arapahoe County? I was under the impression that he lived in the same neighborhood we did because they said his home was within the original search grid? Did he move after JR disappeared? Like I said, I am trying to catch up on this, so my apologies for asking questions that most likely have already been answered previously. TIA for any answers.

From what I've been reading, I'm not sure why everyone wants him tried as an adult. What I read was that he would/could receive 7 years for each charge (if convicted of all of them) and have to serve them consecutively for a total of 119 (?) years; if he is charged as an adult, he would be sentenced to life with the possibility of parole after 40 years. Other than that, I don't see a lot of difference between the two. He'd still be in a juvenile center until he was considered to be an adult, and then go to an adult facility, Are there other differences I'm missing (other than the possibility of his sentences being concurrent instead of consecutive)? TIA

I'd say it's likely to protect the other younger children in the juvenile facility, frankly. He doesn't belong in a place without high security, and where he would have some kind of access to other juveniles who may be in there for shoplifting, or other crimes of that nature.

My daughter's lawyer once told me that these facilities have horrible problems with abuse, and she was, in fact, suing the state for one such case when she was representing us. It's a sad state of affairs in these places, that's for sure. They could probably offer the suspect better safety in the adult prison as well, where they could keep him in solitary if necessary (I'm guessing he wouldn't last too long in gen. pop., frankly... probably not even until a trial because of the heinousness of the crimes he is charged with).

This is the first time I have seen the photo of AS above (in the orange prison gear). He looks so different in every one of his photos - a bit of a chameleon in more ways than one I think.

@Redhead72 - ARS was a student at Arapahoe Community College but he still lived at home with his mother and brother in Westminister.

"Austin Reed Sigg, 17, is enrolled at Arapahoe Community College, which has Colorado's only accredited mortuary-science program."

Thank you Enzeder. That makes more sense now... That's just so creepy given the circumstances...

You know there are just more and more coincidences that keep creeping me out about this case. My oldest has an interest in that profession as well - obviously for entirely different reasons though. She wants to help put people like him in jail - either that or help family members with closure by helping prepare their loved one's bodies and such.... Still though... this is all still so disturbing to me...

Ridgeway suspect Austin Sigg to be separated from adult prisoners

12:41 AM, Nov 28, 2012

Excerpt: "Sigg will be kept away from all other adult prisoners. He will not be able to see or hear them. When being moved around the facility, the jail staff will have to lock other inmates down while Sigg is in that specific part of the facility. The restrictions will be in place for 53 days, until Sigg turns 18 in January. Then the jail staff will assess what's safe for him."

A lot of the reporting out there is just bad these days. The park where the incident involving the runner took place was the one around Ketner Reservoir, which as you know also isn't in Arapahoe County or even close. He lived a couple of blocks west of Ketner and a couple blocks north of 100th, in the same neighborhood.

And FWIW, most people who have an interest in that profession are normal law-abiding citizens.

That said, yes, the case is disturbing from beginning to end. There's really no getting around it.

ETA: I'd imagine they were keeping him away from juveniles for everyone's safety: his and theirs. The same might well be true in the adult population. There's nothing saying he wouldn't target another prisoner or guard if he had the opportunity.

Safety issues mentioned here.

Division of Youth Corrections officials testified at the hearing that the youth facility presented safety problems not only for other children in the facility but for Sigg himself.

Some residents of the youth facility had made comments about what they would do to him if they had access to him, said Dave Maynard, who oversees the Lakewood facility where Sigg has been housed since shortly after his arrest.

The facility houses boys and girls, ages 10 to 20. Parents of children being housed in the facility expressed concern about the danger Sigg posed to their kids.

Sigg was held in an isolation room under constant supervision, Maynard said.

Thanks, I knew it didn't make any sense at all! I agree with you in re: to the state of reporting nowadays, it's one of my pet peeves, actually.

We lived on W. 105th where it connects to Kline. (Just north of the reservoir by one block, and about 2 blocks east of Witt.) My daughters' perpetrators all lived on that block as well - one technically on Kline. It's just all so weird.

The following is speculation and opinion...

I mean pure statistics should point to something or someone very wrong in that area - besides these kids... How often do you have 2 children on one block from different families participating in this kind of criminal activity, much less four children from 3 families - all on "one" block? And now, this person does this? Same neighborhood, same school, etc... That's got to be more than coincidence in my mind... Especially considering Sigg would be right around the same age as my daughters' youngest perpetrator now (one of the ones who was never charged with anything due to his age, not that I would blame a child that young, or would have expected him to be charged, mind you...).

It really makes me wonder though... like I mentioned, to me that points to an adult in the neighborhood that's messing with these kids, and perhaps Sigg was one who was prone to this sort of behavior in the first place for whatever reason, and just took it much further, maybe because he was a lot older than the kids who hurt my girls. (Hope that makes sense.)

I have to get some sleep, but I'm going to delve more into this tomorrow. I've discovered that I've essentially blocked out the last names of the families involved in our case, but I'm sure they'll come back to me now... Or, I may just dig out the paperwork I still have. And, I'm going to work up my courage to check the SO registries for the one that should be on them, too.

Oh, and thanks for mentioning about most people who are interested in mortuary science being absolutely normal, law-abiding citizens. I know that, but I'm sure you probably know how some people can be - they just don't understand how someone could want to deal with that on a daily basis. I'm proud that my daughter does as I know how important all of those professions in that field really are.

53 days and he will be with the other prisoners. I'm sure adult prison won't be nice for him. That mug shot is creepy, but he is a disgusting human.

Thanks. I'll try to get through some of them today. My daughter should be contacting me later today and I've given her some questions that I have - hopefully she can remember some of the things I'm blocking out.

Thanks also for putting up the Sat. map. You can see where our residence was on that map as well.

Anyway, I'm still glad to hear they found this monster, and that he is where he belongs. I'm so happy to have found this website as well. Thanks to everyone who has been so welcoming to me! :)

Oh please don't tell me that they will decide to place him in "special" custody because the threats against him are too great. That is where Scott Peterson is. That's not justice. Let him take his chances!!!!

He is until he turns 18. Then he will be let out with the other prisoners. (Hopefully)

I think that he should be institutionalized. I don't believe that there is any hope for someone like Austin to be rehabilitated. He's a monster, like Joran van der Sloot. They are both very dangerous people. They kill without any thought about the consequences to the person or others, and deal with the aftermath in the same matter of fact cold manner. Joran was dangerously short tempered, unlike Austin, who seems cold and methodical.

Prison is not a place for someone like Austin, in my opinion. I think of prison as a place where you put the bad guys for specific lengths of time, depending on the severity of their crime. There are some Brad Coopers and Jason Young, but there are also hardened criminals. Austin doesn't fit into either category. I think that he should be medicated and managed for life.
