And since I am still here, before I go "beddie-bye," I want to thank The Cheese for giving us all the tweet reports. The Cheese does stand alone, and he/she has done us a great service.

Thank you,

Is there a link on here somewhere that shows there were only 3 pictures? I'm not doubting what people are saying, but I thought I had read that they took 3 hard drives and there were pictures on each of them. I'd just like to read it to see how I read it so differently than everyone else seems to have. :blushing: If there isn't already one posted fairly recently, I'll just look for it back farther. TIA

ETA: Never mind, I found it. It was 3 hard drives.

I'm sorry, Confusion :blushing: I was going by the posts here, and the number of sexual exploitation charges. I didn't remember about his hard drives. Thank you for posting it.

I'm just glad I was remembering correctly for a change. My memory hasn't been real helpful lately. Just about any time someone disagrees with me, I have to recheck what I read to make sure I remembered it right, even if I posted right after reading it.

This is precisely why I hate defense attorneys. His attorney knows he is guilty and evil, but whatever legal maneuver this is supposed to be for, he obviously doesn't care about the victim's family at all.

what is this plea all about? Is AS worried about how he'll be treated in prison of other prisoners think he sexually assaulted a child? Does he think he'll be treated better if he only abducted, killed and dismembered her and kept her remains? :furious:
I do not understand the legal reasoning for this plea.

I am very curious as well. I'm thinking maybe there is one thing he is saying he is not guilty to and so they would have to set forth on a trail... But I think he is pleading not guilty to all of it.

How much does media coverage/high-profile-ness of a case factor into how long the trial is going to be? Do the number of reporters who attend the trial play any role in how role it lasts? Or is it just a coincidence that the more high-profile a trial, the longer it seems to last?

Yeah, I was thinking of the Samantha Runnion case when I said the trial might take 2-3 years to start...and her case was in California.

I have seen a fair number of trials streamed over a media source, and other than making sure the camera does not show any juror(s) is the only problem that streaming creates. That factor does not delay the trial at all. And the number of reports, as long as they obey the Court/County rules for attending a trial has never presented a problem.

I don't see anything having to do with reporters cause a problem. The Judge has the power to dispatch the County LEO's (or whatever LE agency is within the Court's power) to take care of anyone causing any problems to the jury or any of the principals. I've never seen reporters be a problem with trials in NC. I have no idea whether reporters in this trial will create problems to make the trial last longer. I really can't see that that would be possible unless they are very unprofessional, in which case they would prolly be forbidden to be on the premises during the remainder of the trial.

The Supreme Court ruled that mandatory LWOP sentences cannot be handed down to juveniles. Example: Here in LA, the sentence for 1st degree murder is LWOP. So if a juvenile commits 1st degree murder, the jury or judge sentencing can hand down a lesser sentence but they can also still sentence the juvenile to LWOP. There has to be other options besides the "mandatory LWOP" sentence.
But CO is different and the max I believe they said Sigg will serve of convicted is 40 years.

A forty year sentence for 1st Murder is a good start, IMO.

But I would think the sexual abuse/assault or however it is termed could prolly get him another chunk of time as well; add to that 1st kidnapping, etc., etc., could get him another 30 years.... and to have them served consecutively would put his deviant azz in the clink for essentially the rest of his life. The consecutive part of this sentence would be the key to length of his incarceration.

Whatever justice means, I don't know if there's such a thing...

I read the story at the link above. I'm dumbfounded, that Sigg's defense attorney's are making a fuss about DNA lab protocol's!!! Austin Sigg confessed to murdering Jessica, and her dismembered body parts were found in the basement of his home. Despite that overwhelming evidence, he pleads not guilty?

How long will Jessica's family have to endure meaningless court appearances, before Sigg is convicted? Two, three, maybe even four years?

26? Somebody is working all the angles and then some . . .

Sheesh.

They sure are asking for a lot. What's the deal with the objections to a "not guilty" plea being entered for Sigg & his lawyers? Did the judge enter the plea?

-throw out his confession
-don't allow what others said about Austin in the trial
-don't allow nurse who examined Jessica for sexual assault to testify
-move the trial & most likely postpone it...
-allow an expert witness concerning adolescent brain development to educate the jury not on insanity, okay...
-seperate trial from the lake assualt...
-seperate trial for the sexual exploitation charges stemming from materials allegedly discovered in Sigg's home

First I will say, this isn't boy wonder...Second, I wish the judge would bring in the jury from another county if a change of venue is granted. It bothers me when a whole trial has to move to another county. Oops, I left that in Orlando... Easier to put them up in your own county & sequester them durning the week or during trial days. Saves a lot of money & time.

The case got a ton of coverage in the Denver area, but there hasn't been much since Sigg's arrest. I believe Jefferson County has 500k residents, and with that many people, it seems likely they could find 12 people who didn't follow the case, and can be impartial. I don't know if it's really necessary for them to move it out of the Denver area, but it's standard for lawyers to request it.

Oh, I forgot, close the proceedings to the public.

  • #119
Do you have a link to the documents for all the motions?

It sounds like the lawyers are trying to get it delayed from the scheduled September start date.

  • #120
Not yet. Oh, it sure does sound like they are in delay mode.
