CO - Jessica Ridgeway, 10, Westminster, 5 Oct. 2012 - #24 *GUILTY PLEA*

  • #281
I wonder if they'll address what Jessica went through, what she thought, how she felt, her terror, her confusion, her shock, her revulsion, her desperation, her pain

Family members about to speak now.

I would think and hope so.

the women either side of Sigg look like they're trying not to be sick. Which I can understand because listening to the family speaking is making me feel queasy too. Very glad I didn't listen to the testimony.

Oh my God the 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 he watched. Doctor giving long list of titles of the videos he watched and the 🤬🤬🤬🤬 websites he visited. Dear God. All torture and murder of girls.

He felt an adrenaline rush after Kettner jogger attack. Characteristic of sadistic offender. He said adrenaline rush fueled his hunts for victims.

In his interviews, he described what he did as "hunting".

He claimed he confessed to give closure to Jessica's family. He claimed he felt remorse.

People close to him claimed he acted perfectly normal up until police took his DNA. Then he had a panic attack and became very anxious the day after the news release about the Kettner jogger, and it was that day he confessed to his mother. In other words, he knew the gig was up and his DNA was going to match not only Jessica, but the Kettner jogger, and that's when he confessed to his mom. Sorry. Hard to type fast enough to convey all that's being said.

He said he had to kill Jessica. He didn't want to, but had to. He said he wasn't sexually attracted to her. He denied any sexually based motive, but doctor says videos he watched and masturbated to indicate otherwise. No logical motive for dismemberment except that he got a sexual thrill from it.

"Sex and dismemberment don't go together for most of us."

When he described dismembering Jessica, his pupils dilated. Prosecutor trying to get doctor to testify that pupil dilation is a sexual response. Lots of objections from defense.

bbm & bbm

Re the bbm: Ooohhh, when I read that sentence about "hunting," I had a big <shiver>. It made me think of no one but Ted Bundy who started by merely peeping. Then he progressed to finding the "types" he liked, following them and then kidnapping them and all the rest. That was his second step in his MO. We know that he raped & killed at least 30 women; and he later admitted that he would re-visit some of the corpses and rape them again. Oh, my. I had said early-on in this Sigg case that Sigg reminded me of a budding Bundy, and now we hear this "hunting" thing. He's on his way & must be stopped for all time. JMO.

The Cheese -- please don't ever feel that you need to apologize for not "keeping up" with what is said, etc., when you report it to us! For those of us who can't watch it or read the tweets, etc., you are our link to it all. You do a super-fine job of relaying all of that to us, and I thank you very much for being such a fine and generous Sleuth.

Since he is guilty as he has stated...why do attys interfere with that plea? No need for paperwork guys, wth, let him plead guilty! What evidence do they need to review? AS can tell them whatever they need to know. Enough already.

HE DID IT

He already plead guilty. That's done and over with. This hearing is to determine his sentence for the crimes he's guilty of. So what they're doing is presenting all the factors that would increase (prosecution) or lessen (defense) his sentence.

Two things to look for tomorrow at Sigg sentencing. 1.) will judge make most sentences consecutive and 2.) will Sigg address court? #9news

What a woman! Way to go! She is not giving him a crumb. He doesn't deserve permission to even look at her -- she's too good a person for him to even be in the same room.

And the scars on Jessica's mom's heart will be there far longer than any scars he put on Jessica. And he did the same to her dad, grandparents, her aunts, and the city of Westminster. And to so many who have grown to know and love this innocent, happy, hopeful little girl.

And, let me add, ArianeEmory -- a big :tyou: to you for your blow-by-blows during this testimony! Again, you bring it to those of us who can't be there when it's happening. You're a "good-un."

(This was one of those "in from day one" cases for me, it'll never let go of me. And the recovery scene with the dead tree and the nighttime helicopter footage was the stuff of nightmares.)

I have watched a few trials where there were several charges and convictions against one person. In NC courts, the judge has the duty to impose sentence. The NC Statutes (as in many states, I'm sure) provide "sentencing guidelines" as to how long each sentence can be according to prior crime convictions, etc., etc. -- for example, a 1st timer might get 18--30 months for something and someone with 4 previous felony convictions might get 45--60 months for the same crime.

But the judge does have the discretion to make the sentences concurrent or consecutive, and I have seen some pretty tuff sentences, even when one of the convictions is G of 1st Degree Murder where the sentence is automatically Life Without Parole in NC (unless it's Death) -- judges can order the lesser sentences served after the Life sentence, or vice versa. You never know when a conviction might be appealed & overturned, etc., etc.

And sentencing after a jury trial is pronounced on the day of verdict, and the sentence begins immediately. I like that -- Go Directly to Jail!
