Hmm, does anyone else know how to do statement analysis? It's concerning that she starts the description in past tense, and ends it in past tense (appropriate), but the middle part describing Jessica's actions is all present tense -why the change?

I haven't seen any words of comfort being offered to Jessica by mom, but I may not have seen/heard it. I was surprised that it sounded like mom was talking about her own strength, as opposed to speaking to Jessica or the possible abductor. I dunno.

Pink purse left as well as the bikes... I don't know that all of us are convinced that the items left were displayed though, or if the girls leaned the bikes up and dropped the purse...

The purse was purple.

Smooth Operator has done a good job with the interview, however, her version of the morning events is not precisely what was said, although it does capture the general flavor. Here is precisely what was said:

Question: Take me back to last Friday morning, you know, the morning she left, was it a morning like any other morning?

Sarah Ridgeway:“It was any other morning. I came home and you know, her alarm goes off at 7:45. She wanted an alarm clock so she could get up on her own. So, her alarm clock goes off and she comes down, and she watches TV, and she eats her granola bar, goes up and gets dressed, comes down and we peel oranges for her snack at school. She fills up her water bottle. She does everything on her own because she wants to make herself look like she is a grownup. She wants to be a teenager before she’s a teenager. And, so, you know she gets ready and she gets dressed and she gets on her coats and I make sure she is going to meet her friend, because it is snowing, and her friend says 'yes, I am walking too' and I watch her walk out the door and I shut the door and that's the last time I saw her and I want her to come walking back through that door. We need her to walk back through that door.”

Thank you. It's good to read this.... just to use your post as a starting point, I'm not sure it matters much whether it was Jessica that called the friend, or her mom that called the friend. Just that a call was made minutes before Jessica was supposed to meet this friend. It's a little weird we're not hearing anything about how these friends or this friend and his or her family reacted to Jessica not showing up minutes after she just called to confirm they were walking together.

Personally, there is a big difference for me between a group of friends walking to school in the am without morning confirmation calls and one not showing up and one not showing up minutes after calling to confirm they were walking together. That confirmation call makes all the difference to me, imo.

I never had one thought about how strong my family was....much less the thought to say that to someone else.

Who cares how strong we are....the strongest person is the person who has your child. And they know that. You MUST appeal to something else.

The question in the raw footage was specifically about how many people would see the interview and if Jessica sees it, did her mother have a message for her (my own paraphrase but I bet I'm doing a better paraphrase than the msm has of this interview).

Sarah was answering the question she was giving.

That question had nothing to do with sending a message to her abductor.

Once upon a very long time ago, I was a scared 10 year old caught in a crime that was way bigger than anything I had ever imagined could happen to me. What helped me the most was my mother reminding me over and over that my parents were strong, that they would protect us and that we could rely on them.

I'm assuming that since Sarah knows her daughter, she knows what message would give her daughter the most reassurance.

As I understand it, it wasn't a big group of friends in the morning. It was a big group of friends walking home in the afternoon. I guess the schools start at different times.

Who made the phone call to the friend that was walking with Jessica?

What time did Jessica leave?

Do we have a run down on the timeline?

7:30 Sarah arrives home (assuming grandma and aunt were there)

7:45 Jessica's alarm goes off (grandma and aunt still sleeping)

What time was Jessica to meet her friend?

What time does school start?

I'm trying to think of another recent case where an abduction victim's belongings were put on display like that. I can't remember a single one. I don't know if this person was trying to throw off the cops or was just thumbing his nose at them.

Sierra LaMar's purse may have been displayed (no one knows for sure and opinions differ).

Cary Staynor deliberately left one of his victims' wallets in the middle of the street away from the scene of the crimes.

Holly Bobo's cell phone was planted in an area that had already been searched (and that was last year).

It's unusual but not unheard of.

Oh, ok, this may make my above comment moot, but the beginning still starts out in past tense, and then switches to present tense, which can indicate she is no longer retelling it from memory and is thinking it up as she goes along.

Also, the comment about "She does everything on her own because she wants to make herself look like she is a grownup. She wants to be a teenager before she’s a teenager. " - sounds almost negative or like she is trying to blame Jessica? Maybe I am not reading the inflection correctly.

Oh, and Hi, Seek&Find. :). Thanks for the welcome. I just kinda inserted myself into this discussion. (sheepish grin)

It is 12.5 hrs from Westminster CO to Evansdale IA

It is 8 hrs from Westminster CO to Cody WY

IMO, those are easy peasy drives (it's 26 hrs back "home" for me) I consider anything under 16 hours a one day trip with two toddlers

I was just looking on those same places on a map.... also put Unionville, TN on there though it's a bit further.

(See TN TN - AA: Chloie Leverette, 9, & Gage Daniel, 7, Unionville, 23 Sept 2012 - house fire - [ame="http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=185812"]TN TN - AA: Chloie Leverette, 9, & Gage Daniel, 7, Unionville, 23 Sept 2012 - house fire - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community[/ame])

Sorry to quote myself. Just adding another thought......

The following is speculation and theory only.

According to all msm reports, Jessica went missing within blocks of her home. 3 blocks was the walk from her home to the park, iirc. That phone call letting someone know Jessica was walking out the door could have given someone a heads up on when to grab her within that short walk. That's where my bet's going at this point.

Sorry if dumb question. What is significance of Unionville?

I have no computer speakers so have not heard the interview, I have just read it. My interpretation was Jessica was asking for more responsibility. I have a just turned 10 yr old but one that is a grade behind Jessica. I think there is a big difference in what kind of responsibilities kids are willing to take on between 4th and 5th. I don't find it at all unusual a 5th grader would want to start doing more things for themself rather than having a parent do it for them.

there is a link (I just saw it within the last five or so pages... but I do have mine set to 50 per page) that there is also another possible "witness" that puts her walking to school.

No other details on this "witness"

Wasn't there a neighbor who said they saw her Thursday evening?

Just got back from the vigil in Superior. About 500 people were there I think. Four different clergy people from different faiths, A Boulder County Sheriff and the city mayor as well. We prayed for Jessica, her family, the searchers, the community, and the perp (if there is one).

That comment stood out to me too but I got a different "take" on it. To me, it sounds as though she was offering an excuse for Jessica doing everything on her own. I see nothing wrong with Jessica awaking to her own alarm and making her own snacks. At 10, she's not a baby and it's not like Mom wasn't there to supervise. It just seems awkward to me that she wanted to STRESS that Jessica "wanted" to do things this way - as though she felt people would judge her as a mom for allowing it.....and then to STRESS that Jessica has always been well cared for and should come home and continue to be well cared for. As everyone has said, there is no way we know what we'd say or do. These things just sounded odd to me.

:fence:

I also live in Canada, but we pay over $200 a year for bus fees plus $185 a year so our kids are allowed to stay in school during lunch.

Praying For Jessica's safe return.
Wow.... does this $185.00 go toward supervision pay.. or why is there a fee to let kids stay at school during lunch?

As a retired teacher.. this caught my eye!
