Maine on Sunday makes no sense to me, due to the backpack, as I do not believe she was taken by a group of people, leaving one behind to plant the bag. But what do I know.

NurseB had a great post (sorry, it's on the other thread, I don't know if I can bring that here or how to) asking about the backpack placement.

-Believe it was placed between 6:30pm and 1:00 am Saturday
-Was it placed there or moved there?
-Could someone other than the perp have placed it there, and if so, why?

Hypothesizing- if someone found the bag and realized it was Jessica's and dumped it- not wanting media attention? Or a teenager/someone indifferent found it, realized nothing valuable in it, dumped it- and now doesn't want to step up and say anything?

Apparently there was something about the vehicle that caught her attention -- possibly just the Colorado plates, which are VERY unusual in this part of the world -- so that when she later saw Jessica's picture on line, she recognized her and remembered the car.

Also, Maine LE seems to be saying nothing at all about the second sighting.

here is the link on the second sighting:

I too recall reading the post about woman seeing - who she thinks was JR on Sat near a nail salon not too far from JR's home area. I believe she posted "the suspected JR" was with a woman and another small girl. Poster was not feeling she was being "heard" by LE. Hoping LE followed up with her.

The reported vehicle in Maine (blue wagon with shiny large wheels) would stand out for me - being an older wagon with the "bling wheels". I hope those canvassing near JR's home are questioned on whether a vehicle like that rings a bell.

I remember that. I wonder about boats or container ships that may leave out of Maine. Possible kids are being sold and shipped over seas to other countries in some kind of human trafficking ring.

If that's the perp's motive, it wouldn't necessarily matter if the targeted victim is a boy or girl then either.

Hi there, I am from Halifax, Nova Scotia (borders New BrunswicK), and have crossed the Maine/ New Brunswick border many times (especially since they closed our ferry from Yarmouth N.S. two years ago -so no alternative.)
Crossed with my son's hockey team and each crossing was different - birth certificates are required and a letter from the parent of an accompanied minor....sometimes they are very strict/ sometimes not - I have never been personally searched. But last summer, crossing into the States a guard asked my son's girlfriend , "You are going willingly with this family, correct?" It was not standard - but I liked that direct approach.
Anyway I have never come across unmanned crossings and it has become more stringent even in the last two years...Now we all carry passports.
Hope this is helpful...

It definitely makes the backpack thing weirder since both incidents happened Sunday. A part of me thinks the backpack was left at the elementary school that the canines traced the scent back to. I'm definitely leaning towards the idea of someone else finding it and then for whatever reason, it ends up on the curb. Heck, it could have been a parent who though it belonged to one of the kids on that street and they never bothered to check the name, just figuring it would get back to the correct person.

My thoughts on this:
1. It isn't Jessica in Maine (most likely)
2. The backpack was left earlier than Saturday night. (less likely)
3. There's more than 1 person working together. (least likely)

I'd like to believe that #2 - 3 are the case, but have to go with the simplest explanation.

OTOH - the CO license plates are very compelling as is the description of the car that kind of matches other abduction car descriptions.

From time to time I've wanted to photograph a person thinking it was someone else--if not at very least to say, "hey so and so, you have an identical twin"! But it always feels so stalkerish. I know there are iphone apps meant to disguise your intentions when you're taking a picture, but I have yet to download them.

If it were a missing child, I wouldn't hesitate to try to get a photo. No matter how bad of a creeper it made me seem! :)

Ihavenoclue, what is EQ protocol? tia

Please note that I don't know if this IS what is happening in Westminster... But here is a "Cliff Notes" version of Emergency Procedures in <my school district>, CA...

Preparing for the unexpected
The <district> has a number of specific protocols and procedures to assist in its emergency response. Whether the situation involves a seismic event, terrorism, fire or a stranger on campus, it is the intent of <district> to:

1. Take effective action to minimize injuries and loss of life
2. Utilize school personnel and facilities to care for victims
3.. Provide maximum security for students and employees
4. Provide a safe a calm environment for students
5. Protect and preserve school property

Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS)

<district> has adopted the (SEMS) as part of its emergency plans and procedures. By utilizing the SEMS model, oor schools and district sites are aligned with the practices of other response agencies, improving their ability to assist.

In the event of an emergency situation during the school day, here are some important points to remember:

We maintain responsibility for our students. Campuses in <district> will be secured and students will be kept at school until they can safely be released to parents or authorized guardians through an established reunification process.

Staff will remain on campus.
Employees are expected to have personal disaster plans for their homes and families so that they can carry out their school disaster responsibilities.

Personnel will be trained.
Blahdy Blahdy Blahdy....

We prepare to be self-sufficient. Though <district> works closely with the Police Dept., County Fire Authority, and other agencies, it may be necessary to coordinate our own response efforts if emergency personnel are tending to more immediate needs. <district> staff members have therefore been assigned specific roles and responsibilities, which are practiced during drills throughout the year.

(I hope this doesn't get on google... my fanny is grass!) :what:

Thanks, yes.

The only source I have on what I've said is a French-Canadian friend whose family farms on both sides of the border somewhere over on the Maine-New Brunswick border. She has mentioned farm access crossings. I never asked her for any particular details.

Jumping off your post. When I crossed with my son, I had to bring custody papers saying I had sole custody because his father didn't have any custody to write a letter. In addition, our last names were different, so I had to bring marriage certificate, divorce etc..the chain of papers. I never thought it was a pain because I love it when they are doing their jobs.

I hope the person who has Jessica is going to try to cross the border in Canada, as I think they will be caught. Now, if it were Mexico, I would be very worried.

I don't know if this has been pointed out, but read the description of the vehicle used in the Aravada child enticement case:

http://denver.cbslocal.com/2012/09/...ase-sketch-in-child-enticement-investigation/

The vehicle used in these incidents is described as a royal blue – similar to the blue worn by the University of Kentucky – 4-door sedan, possibly from the mid 90s.

It may have dents on the passenger side rear door and may have half of the rear wheels covered with a “skirt” similar to those seen on a 1996 Cadillac Deville.

The vehicle spotted in Maine is a blue 4-door station wagon from the mid-90's!

ETA- Also notice that the Aravada description says the car may have had a rear wheel skirt...that would have made it look similar to a station wagon!

Do we know for sure it is a real lock out? Because BVSD (right next door) is "practicing" lockdowns and lock outs today. Just wondering if it is a drill or the real thing.

Well, a sedan is not a station wagon...

True, but the Aravada descriptions said the car may have had it's rear wheels covered with a skirt...that would have given it a boxy shape, similar to a station wagon.

Jessica Ridgeway of Westminster was last seen walking to school at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 5. She has since been reported missing, and the search for the 10-year-old continues Monday.
For all the latest information on the search, follow the live blog below. It will be updated with real-time information throughout the day, and you do not have to refresh this page to get the latest.

I dont give much credence to these sightings of Jessica. In every case where someone goes missing there are many sightings of them all over the country.

Even in Laci Peterson's case people were sure they saw her in their area but of course they didnt.

The police are getting calls about sighting of Jessica from Texas to Maine.

This sure takes a lot of time for LE to rule all of these sightings out.

I dont think she is really in Maine but would love to be wrong.

IMO

I have a feeling its this car they are focused on.
