Could someone local or someone who knows explain what they mean by "open space"...we don't have that term here, lol

Open space is land that's opened - no buildings, etc.

what this also tells me is the person driving the blue car knows what is going on and what is being reported, they knew LE was looking for them, most suspected the car was going Canada and the vehicle is found 3 hours south in NH...quite the mystery.

Way to go New England people being so observant!

Apparently the vehicle was found in response to a tip to LE.

While I am glad to hear that certain schools are getting local LE for security, criminals are smart. This perp will just move on to another school in a different district that doesn't have tightened security.

I'm a few pages back and am still catching up, but I picture in my head a young person (22-34) who lives at home with parents. I think car belongs to father. I'm sure LE has already checked welfare of owner. Could boxes be the kind you get at Costco to put your stuff in?

Regarding the boxes... no. Optimum Nutrition is largely sold online. It's really not easy to find in stores, I know, I've tried, lol. The brown box looks like it might have a label?

I have no doubt they know who was driving that car, I at this point haven't a clue what's going on as my mind is now going all cheesy crime tv and I therefore clearly need to step back and go back to the basics.

I don't believe in coincidences, but at the same time the likelihood that it's NOT Jessica that was found so close to home is slim. So that just leaves me confused.

Gonna take a break, try and clear my head, work on a local case for a bit that I am actually on the ground for and then return to this.

I am just not buying that the car is not related...

Also from that link:

Police are investigating any possible links between an abandoned blue station wagon found in the city this morning with a suspected child abduction in Colorado last week.

It is unlikely that it is related, but there is a one percent chance it is so we are making sure we're doing everything we can,” Keaveny said. “I'm sure they are getting a lot of tips like this.”

“We have a small piece of this. We are waiting to hear back from the agencies that are involved about what they want to do. Essentially, we're here to help,” Keaveny said.

I believe the blue station wagon will end up being like the white van in E & L's case- unrelated. I so wish the police had treated E & L's case as LE has treated Jessica's case. They have done an outstanding job.

I haven't been to it for a couple of years, but as I recall, you can see the sign from the highway and when you come off the traffic circle, it's pretty obvious. I would call that "right off" but I'm sure other people have different definitions.

I would be willing to believe that the car's owners are locals who panicked.

No you are thinking of the one in Newington which is right off the Spaulding. You cannot see this Wal-mart from any highway.

Can you elaborate about the white van? I'm unfamiliar with that case.

The three things can't be connected. He would not have taken Jessica to Maine, and then brought her back to CO, and then abandon the car in NH. The sighting in Maine may very well be another child with similar features.
No, you are correct, it makes no sense.
BTW, this thread is moving too fast for me to keep up, sorry... I'm way behind.

That's okay! It IS swift today! Just glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks this vehicle being related would not make sense, however coincidental it may seem.

Is the color of the registration sticker a current one?

Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2

Yes, we have the same orange sticker. It's for expiration in 2013.

Kelly Werthmann ‏@KellyCBS4

Just spoke w/ FBI, says scene here being treated as if body found is #JessicaRidgeway. Also asked us if we'd seen anything suspicious.

At first I thought the same (see my post above) but it's not an obvious WalMart off the highway. And there is an even bigger tollbooth before the Hampton tolls, up at Kittery/York in Maine and they always have way more staties up there than we do at ours.

And where do you go once you abandon it? There is a C&J Trailway bus depot about 4 miles away, but walking? The C&J has a huge parking lot--any car could be abandoned there for weeks before someone noticed, so why not just do that if want the bus?

It makes so little sense, I now see why police are pretty sure is unrelated. But still weird--I hardly ever see Colorado plates here. Definitely something you notice.

Oh, I had forgotten about the York tolls. Yes, that makes it even odder.

I just realized that when I went to that Walmart, I didn't come down I95, I was coming down the Spaulding Turnpike from Rochester. And it is right off that road, right after it joins Route 1. Not sure it's still Spaulding at that point.

He could have gone west first, over into Maine, and then down Route 16: https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=...wyQ&oq=West&mra=dpe&mrsp=2&sz=7&via=2&t=m&z=7

With the foliage right now, you can't see the sign from the highway.

I don't think car is related now, but if it was, I think the way Wal Mart was found was coming down Route 1 to avoid tolls and police.

Im in a county next to JeffCo...
I can tell you that my county and even the other counties near me have tightening up their ships immediately.

It is now up to parents to tighten their reigns. Hopefully parents all over the state and country are sitting their kids down and going over "stranger danger" until they are blue in the face. Let them watch the news about Jessica and let them know that unless mom/dad says its ok...talk to NO ONE and RUN if someone tries to talk to you.....

Parents in my neighborhood are very bothered. Today and yesterday when I was driving around, I didnt see as many walkers and saw a crap load of parents with kids....there was a very noticable difference. It is a beautiful day in Colorado today!! Im used to the sidewalks covered in kids walking to the local school.

Is there a legal way that one of us could run the plate on the impounded car since it has been shown in MSM and was impounded because it fits the description of the vehicle police are looking for?

Agreed.

This Walmart is along Rt. 1, which is a very busy route, although the store is set back quite a bit from the actual roadway. The signs for the store are very well visible.

Rt. 1 = Lafayette Road

This is what freaked me out about the possible scent trail that the dogs picked up in Rock Creek. WHY did the scent go towards Superior Elementary? I may read too far into things.

As noted above, you're thinking of the wrong Wal Mart. I was too at first and you can see that one easily off the Spaulding, but not the one on the other side of Portsmouth.
