I never trust media and their wording choices. They can make things appear very different from what they really are just by choosing their words very carefully. Sensationalism, anyone?

Not saying that's necessarily the case here, or whether it's even intentional. But I've been following this stuff long enough to know that media can get things very very wrong, many many times.

You have definitely got that right. I'm afraid carefully chosen words and meaningful content don't hold as much sway in journalism as sensationalism.

does anyone have a relationship with the p.i. From the ms case ( the one that gave his time on the ms case for free) that involved bsl.... Maybe he could help clarify things like not intact and dismembered and much more....

Jessica's family and friends must be going through unimaginable pain and suffering so please keep them in your prayers. I hope the body isn't Jessica's like all of you. With an abandoned vehicle now being found hopefully they will find the monster who took her.

Article about abandoned car that matches description of sightings reported is here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/11/portsmouth-police-investi_n_1958642.html

Sorry if this has already been posted.

"We appreciate the media recognizing that from the helicopter, you have footage of the body that would show the public the body was not intact," said Westminster police spokesman Trevor Materasso. "This is extending the length of time for the investigation to positively identify who that body is."

However, the video also shows that the body is small, and does not appear to be that of an adult victim. It was found next to a culvert and also appeared to be near a black garbage bag.

That same artical also states the body appeared to be found near a black garbage bag, hmmm

Sources told 7NEWS, our Scripps station in Denver, that the victim had been dismembered and parts of the body are missing. Investigators said that fact is delaying the official identification of the remains.

However, police hope to have the body officially identified sometime soon and make the announcement on Friday afternoon.

ABC NEWS reported that three sources said investigators have reasons to believe the body found in Arvada is the body of 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway.

LOL that tree is giving you all fits, isn't it? :lol:

It's amazing the things we can find to focus on. I spent all morning trying to figure out if the car found in Maine had a roof rack or not, only to find out it doesn't matter in this case, since LE has ruled it out. LOL

But the tree does kind of have me scratching my head:waitasec:

Dismembered gives the impression that it was done by a human, purposefully. I'm still thinking that is probably what happened and then the animals dispersed it. Ugh. And, perhaps, the monster took her head somewhere else entirely, knowing that it would make the ID all the more difficult and make the pain to her family all the more worse. Horrible. Horrible. Horrible.

It's true, when we hear that word, we do think of purposeful, human activity. And I do agree that the reporter knows that and thus was trying to be sensational. However, it is also used to describe what animals do to their prey or kills:
Large prey is dismembered by rolling and thrashing it around until pieces of flesh fall off the body. Crocodiles have small stomachs and large prey can last them many days or even weeks. They usually hide the carcass underwater or in the bushes. The crocodile doesn’t chew its food but devours it whole.

A true predator can commonly be known as one which kills and eats another organism. Whereas other types of predator all harm their prey in some way, this form certainly kills them. Predators may hunt actively for prey, or sit and wait for prey to approach within striking distance, as in ambush predators. Some predators kill large prey and dismember or chew it prior to eating it, such as a jaguar or a human;
[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Predation"]Predation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]
A two-month-old baby boy was killed and dismembered by a dog in his family's home, 30 miles northwest of Charleston, South Carolina, authorities said on April 20.

Coyotes normally kill livestock with a bite in the throat, but they infrequently pull the animal down by attacking the side, hindquarters, and udder. The rumen and intestines may be removed and dragged away from the carcass. On small lambs, the upper canine teeth may penetrate the top of the neck or the skull. Calf predation by coyotes is most common when calves are young. Calves that are attacked, but not killed, exhibit wounds in the flank, hindquarters, or front shoulders; often their tails are chewed off near the top. Deer carcasses are frequently completely dismembered and eaten.

They used both words to describe the body that was found. It seems to me that they are talking about a deliberate act.

Oh geesh Zola, graffiti, gangs or young people hang out.

I think sometimes we fixate on the little things because it makes us feel like we're doing something, helping in some way.

Otherwise we'd all just feel lost and helpless. No one wants to feel like that in these situations.

So, if me fixating on whether a tree was upright or not makes me feel better, I'll go with it. :floorlaugh:

From your article above:

"However, the video also shows that the body is small, and does not appear to be that of an adult victim. It was found next to a culvert and also appeared to be near a black garbage bag."

So now the obvious question is, what the heck was in the black bag?

First time poster here.

Hate to be a bother but could someone please briefly catch me up on what has happened since they found the car? Got a heap of work to do today and don't have time to read back.

I think it was the one I posted about a page or so ago...was it this one?

I believe "dismembered" could be post mortem by wildlife, however if this body is not identifiable, it means to me either the face is so badly injured its not identifiable or the head is not there to identify.

I was still holding out hope, even after the body was found, that a person accidentally killed Jessica with their car on her way to school and panicked and hid the body. I'm guessing thats not what happened at this point.

It sure seems to imply that it was purposefully dismembered.
