Anyway, even when people are being very careful-there could have been as little as one hair, one bit of saliva
I think you would have to be very very cleaver or very lucky to leave nothing at all behind. I only have to shake my head and I shed crap loads of hair. I always tell DH if I go missing to stick some sticky tape to the back of the sofa and they will have more DNA than they could ever want from me. I think a man with short hair, and especially at night, could quite easily miss that they had left behind a hair of two. Especially while climbing under the fence.

FYI, here in Colorado "Open Space" is a formal designation made by cities and counties. In most cases, the city or county actually owns and maintains the Open Space area. These areas are set aside to prevent potential overdevelopment, create recreational areas, protect wildlife habitats or as in the case of Boulder, to ensure there is a clear divide between one city and the next.

Yeah. And something that the perp said or did told LE to search only open spaces. Maybe he's a naturalist?

Although murder isn't very "natural." To most of us, anyway.

I get the same impression...although it's fairly logical to search any area of open space near the site of the abduction, I too thought it was telling that LE seemed to have spent a great deal of time and energy on searching Open Space. Hopefully they have a lot more info than we know about and the noose is tightening!

LE hasn't officially leaked anything about DNA have they?

Anyway, even when people are being very careful-there could have been as little as one hair, one bit of saliva, etc...

...or perhaps a droplet of the killers own blood possibly as the result of a cut suffered while dismembering a body. Even the most experienced Butchers have injured themselves while doing their jobs.

How do we know that police have DNA for the person that murdered Jessica?

If she was molested as the little one in WY was then they've got DNA from both cases and that's probably the only way they were able to rule out no connection.

I am not looking at the pic...

but seeing red... As in feb. 14th... Valentine's Day?

the page is called "Fleeting Red" and is about red leaves in fall.

didn't see anything called "seeing Red".

It's there. It's pictures of a tree in red tint but it looks as if there is splattered blood on the photo (or lens). He says he doesn't just see a dying tree in this pic.

Timeline is harder to navigate now. You have to scroll down on the page and 3 tabs will come up beside his profile picture: 1. Jesse Speer, 2. Timeline, 3. Now. Click on the Now tab and click on 2012. Then a new tab will appear beside the 2012 tab called Highlights. Click on the Highlights tab and then click on February. Then scroll down to Feb 13. It's called "Seeing Red". Creepy

I know what the Police have said but there is just so many coincidences. 1 coincidence maybe this many no way!Unless they feel he had help and do not want to give anything away til a partner is caught.Or maybe not..

oh gawd. I didn't even think of that. but, of course. :(
but that's really stupid right? even idiots know about DNA.

Sorry was about 15 pages behind (still about 7 or 8 behind) when I learned of the WY perp being caught and posted my thoughts. Now that I'm catching up more I see that you guys are annoyed with this topic :blushing: i apologize and moving on... can't keep up. need to be in bed, have classes tomorrow bright and early but trying so hard to catch up!!

I'm fascinated by the similarities. One perp grabs an 11 year old girl and leaves her in the middle of no where at night in 20F weather surrounded by grizzlies and wolves. He's a photographer that is very familiar with Colorado. He especially likes to photograph black and white isolation in nature.

Another young girl, 10 years of age, disappeared in Colorado. Mister Mayor posted a comment about interesting similarities between the addresses connected with the disappearance - including the connection with open spaces. That 10 year old girl was found "not intact" in a desolate location with the same theme (shacks, hills, nature, photography, isolated) as the other guy's photography: open spaces.

OK, the girl in Cody was abducted on Monday the 8th. but, the backpack was found early Sunday AM. are we to assume the body & backpack were already dropped by Sunday morning and he could've driven to WY to do it again the next day?

This perp hasn't been in custody that long...what, 24 hours or so? Could we have him ruled out due to DNA within that time frame? Maybe the "rule out" is based on something else....

Evening Shefner. I am thinking the LE in WY have JS's DNA from the rape (just my guess that when victim was "rescued" by the hunters a rape kit was completed at the hosp). So likely the JS DNA analysis has been available to share with both MT and CO for several days. Just MOO.

It's only 7 1/2 hours. Half day trip. Just saying possible, except he has been ruled out.

Well, I don't understand it and don't want to get in trouble for posting so much about JS, but it's really disturbing me. The place Jessica was left is also known for being a place that's haunted and this guy's photos are so similar and some are haunting, so I don't know. I hope LE speaks to the public soon and lets them know one way or the other.

To add: I've heard two things, one is that he's ruled out and another that they can't rule him out.

It sounds like the backpack was dropped late Saturday or early Sunday (I would imagine that the body had been placed where it was found prior to dropping off the backpack) - it certainly would have been possible for him to reach Cody by Monday.

My apologies in advance but I came in late. I know Jessica's street name, could someone post the addresses to where the backpack & where her body was found. Actually the road for where she was found. Please & thank you. I'm just looking at something.

Is there a place close to there where people hunt moose? I noticed that rifle season for them started a few days before Jessica was abducted, and wondered if it might have been done by someone who was supposed to be at his cabin hunting over the weekend. As bad as it sounds, he may have gutted a moose and used the blood/remains to cover up what he did to her. It might have been easier to just dispose of her body in the area where he was hunting, but it would make it too easy to point at him.

Backpack was found near corner of Andrew Way and Alpha Ct. in Superior, CO. Her body was found near 82nd Street in Arvada...not sure if there is an approximate address for that location.

Jessica was abducted on Friday at 8:30 AM
Backpack was left near a sidewalk between 6:45 PM and 1:00 AM Saturday night
Backpack was reported at 1: PM Sunday
The other child was abducted at what time on Sunday and how far away is it?

He's a PR guy in the Denver office. Denver covers part of Wyoming. So I don't know whether it's significant or not.

Thanks! To you and the others who mentioned that. Just in case the cases do end up related I'm kind of glad it's the same agent involved with them both. He might see any connections (or obvious non-connections) more quickly IMO.
