I wish that were true, because it would at least mean he was alive and well somewhere. But have you been keeping up with this case, and read about the type of young man Joe is? IMHO, he would never put his family or friends through something like this!

Sometimes ppl are just not happy. They might appear to be.
For some or many maybe it's easier to just leave.
Is there possibly something he just couldn't tell anyone?

Shares more details that reveals a beautiful soul behind Joe's beautiful smile ...

Praying

Thanks for sharing, Scout12. This is exactly how I had imagined Joe to be based on how he has been described by friends. And then there is the look on his parents' faces ... :(.

On another note, I appreciate that this article mentions the number for CrimeStoppers (with a CO area code): I have noticed that this information is missing from the newer posters that have been posted on the FJK FB page as well as its most recent cover photo. Instead, the newer posters ask for tips to be called in either to a toll-free number or a number with a TN area code (I've done some "online sleuthing," and it apparently belongs to a company by the name of "N. A. Keller Construction").

I wanted to familiarize myself with how CrimeStoppers works and did some research online, and while it appears that the programs is run by individual jurisdictions (and it doesn't appear that Conejos county has a website or FB page dedicated to its CrimeStoppers program), one common theme seems to be that the person providing information "remain(s) anonymous no matter what."

Plenty of cases in the past have shown (e.g., Lauren Spierer case: In Lauren's case, her parents even set up a PO Box in the town she disappeared from, hoping that someone would send an anonymous letter with a tip ... to avail at least so far ...; my first thought, when I heard about this was "but LE could possibly extract the sender's DNA from the back of the stamp, envelope, letter itself, etc. ... I'm such an ID addict!) that many people, sadly, will not give up information no matter what. Still, there may be someone out there, who knows something, to whom the anonymous aspect of CrimeStoppers is particularly appealing. There may also be someone who only heard or saw something (and did not engage in any sort of criminal activity) but is hesitant to contact LE because s/he doesn't want to get involved, period, who may feel comfortable calling CrimeStoppers.

I guess what I am trying to say is that I would still advertise the CrimeStoppers contact number (with a clear description of how the program works) alongside the other two numbers. The information may not necessarily help produce an arrest or criminal charges, but it may at least help locate Joe :( ....

All of this, of course, is assuming that there was some sort of foul play involved (which I have felt from the very beginning that there was ...), and if I could have answers to the few questions that I have, I would feel either more strongly or less strongly about it. As others have suggested, I realize it is also possible that he may have had an accident or fell ill and has not been found as a result.

All IMHO only.

It's oddly phrased in the article, but I bet the information the family wishes had been compiled is mostly information about tourists staying at the time in nearby cabins and cottages not owned by the Rainbow Trout Ranch.

What? The sheriff of Conejos County is the investigating authority. My interest in this case was piqued because I have a friend of a friend who was staying at the ranch at the time. The deputies spoke with the guests. Many of the guests joined in the search for him that first full day Joe Keller was missing.

The article makes it sound otherwise, imoo.

"But no list of tourists renting rooms at the Rainbow Trout Ranch (where Joe was visiting), fishing or hunting lodges in the area July 23 was ever compiled."

IMOO.

And I thought that the Conejos County and Bradley County Sheriff's were working Together, in addition to the FBI.

Certainly, it's possible. And, if I (and only I, utterly subjectively) were ranking possibilities by likelihood, I would put Took Off Undetected of Own Accord in Narrow Timeframe way ahead of Kidnapped By Drug Cartel on Whim, but I would still rank Injury, Illness, or Disorientation Led to Significant Mishap as a MUCH likelier first place.

The Bradley County Sheriff has no jurisdiction and there is no legal means by which the Conejos County Sheriff can cede jurisdiction to the Bradley County Sheriff. I mean, temporary deputation is possible. It would be weird, but possible. And the Conejos County Sheriff would still have ultimate authority and jurisdiction over the actions of anyone he deputized. There has been some (seemingly, to me, unusual but moderate) cooperation between the two sheriffs. As the article says, Sheriff Galvez of Conejos Co. has not requested the involvement of the CBI. It's not clear to me the degree of involvement of he FBI, except that it is less than the family would like, according to the linked article.

Cell phone probably left in vehicle because there's not much cell signal up there.

I'm afraid I have to step aside for a bit, but anyone any thoughts on this?

"His cell phone was left in his bags in his vehicle."

I don't think I have seen this before.

I thought that was odd too. Not just the cell phone part, but the "bags" part. I thought they were planning on staying there a few days. But this article made it sound like they just pulled up and decided to go for a jog. Wasn't it said that they had lunch, went trapshooting, chopped wood, then went for a jog, and were supposed to have dinner there? Or did he drive to where ever it is that they started jogging from?

From the article: (RBBM)
Joe Keller was on a road-trip with friends in July. They stopped at the Rainbow Trout Ranch in Antonito, Colorado, for a quick run. The plan was 30 minutes out and 30 minutes back, a one hour trail jog. A plan, his father says, should not have carried him more than 3 to 4 miles away from his starting point. His cell phone was left in his bags in his vehicle. Keller has not been seen since.

Why would you have your bags still in your car if you were staying there and had already been hanging out at the ranch? This whole thing is baffling to me.

What I wonder is did his other 2 friends still have their bags in the car as well?
If not and Joe was the only one, I wonder why would that be?
Since that info is not disclosed, then it makes me wonder, if Joe's bags were the only one in the vehicle,
is it possible that Joe knew he would not stay, if perhaps he did have someone pick him up on purpose?
These are only questions and thoughts.
Again, it seems heartless to pick up and leave like that.
Not saying it has happened that way to Joe, but it does happen.

Maybe they left their bags in the car until their room(s) was/were ready.

"We request that you plan your arrival at the ranch between 3:30 and 5:30 pm Sunday. We serve dinner at 6:30 pm and have orientation at 7:30 pm on arrival day... (Snipped By Me. ) "Check-out time is 9:30 am the following Sunday."

http://rainbowtroutranch.com/colorado-dude-ranch-rates/

Of course, they did not arrive on a Sunday, but perhaps their room(s) would have been ready by 3:30 pm?

They went for a run around 4:30pm.
I wonder if dinner is always served at 6:30pm every night, or on the Sunday arrival day only?

Do you think they would have been camping out somewhere else? ( like at the La Jara Reservoir?)

No I don't think camping at all. But maybe continuing on to another location or a different place to stay. I have not read here in a while but I remember no one else really k ew where they were staying.
I still believe he left on his own other wise he would have been found . I do not believe he was kidnapped or abducted.

If he did leave on his own, I hope that he would have the fortitude to call the authorities and let them know he is ok, if he did not want to talk with family or friends.

The not knowing, and not telling people, if he did leave on his own, is so hurtful.
I would hope he would want to spare anymore pain, and come clean.

I wonder who initiated the run?
If it was Joe, then perhaps he was going to meet someone since it was usual that he and his friend split up during their runs?

Anyway, bumping for Joe.
Sad to see Joe on the second page.

I am trying to think of things to keep his thread going....

So sad this is a COLD case.

IMOO.
