Found Deceased CO - Josh Hall, 27, Boulder County hike, dog Happy, 3 Feb 2021

Search & Rescue Groups Comb Devil's Thumb Lake Area For Josh Hall

Search and rescue teams continue their search for Josh Hall who disappeared on Feb. 3 after he went on a hike on the Devil’s Thumb Lake trail via the Hessie trailhead.

The Rocky Mountain Rescue Group shared its gratitude for Flight For Life Colorado in helping search for Hall from the air. Crews also say they are searching on the ground using snowmobiles, a tactic approved by the U.S. Forest Service.

Hall’s dog, Happy, was with him during the hike, but was found about 13 miles away. Hall’s mother previously told CBS4 Happy is doing well, but lost 15 lbs.

Search crews say they are using breaks in weather to look for him, but are limited on where they can look because of deep levels of snow, white out visibility conditions and avalanche danger.

Humongous snowstorm with feet of snow predicted in this area of CO for the weekend (Friday - Monday). A former student lives in Boulder and she posted the snow map. This will put off searching for quite a bit more time I assume. It's a shame. The waiting must be unbearable.

Search continues for Arvada hiker Josh Hall missing for more than a month in Boulder County

But weather conditions in the area continually have hampered the search, and a month after he went missing authorities have yet to find Hall. But in a post this week, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group said they are still looking when weather allows.

“We continue to search for Josh Hall as weather and resources allow,” the post read. “Thanks to Flight For Life Colorado for your ongoing support on this operation. We conducted an air search with them last week as well. We have also continued our ground searching using snow machines (with USFS approval) to help with access.”

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office also shared the post, adding, “Thank you to our search and rescue partners for all they do.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call Boulder County dispatch at 303-441-4444. Hall may have been wearing a green khaki jacket, a dark hat or a gray or green backpack.

Any updates? Anyone following this case with tips on where to search? I am not far from there and it seems like a nice place for a day hike... (especially now as opposed to a couple months ago).
Perhaps any areas below Devils Thumb Lake where avalanches may have occurred. He hiked from Hessie Trailhead up to that destination. Last phone ping was at a cut off before that area.. Dog found 8 days later on highway - I believe you can get info from this thread in posts above or by joining the Find Josh Hall FB page where maps of previous searches have occurred. It was public for a while but they later made it private - open to anyone wanting to search I would bet.

Nice of you to offer.

Sad. It seems like he was trying to make his way down in the bad weather that hit while he was hiking. Jmo

Body found near Diamond Lake Trail in Boulder County believed to be Josh Hall

A volunteer with the Front Range Rescue Dogs organization was preparing for an organized search for the remains of Joshua Hall, who has been missing since Feb. 3, when they found partial human remains about 4.3 miles west of the Hessie Trailhead, located at 730 Fourth of July Road, according to a news release. The remains were found near a small stream were less than half a mile off the Diamond Lake Trail.

The gender and age of the person found is unknown due to decomposition and possible animal activity, the release states. Based on where the remains were found and items found near the body, Boulder County Sheriff’s officials believe the remains may be Hall’s body.

[Josh Hall's family sent Denver7 the following statement Saturday:

"While we are devastated and forever heartbroken, we are grateful and relieved that Josh has been found.

We want to express our deepest appreciation to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, the numerous search and rescue teams, and the angel hikers that never stopped looking for our son. These men and women spent hundreds, if not thousands, of hours searching for our son and never once gave up. There was never a point in this search when we felt that Josh was forgotten. We would also like to thank the Boulder, Nederland and surrounding communities for their prayers, love and support through this very difficult time.

So many were searching for him, even in the winter months. Someone was bound to find him. Since he was not found on a trail, Maybe the dogs had a role in finding him.

Something to be said for good old closure.
RIP Josh Hall. Sad for the family.

Yes, per this:

["They just got an early start and followed up on some of the indications that other dogs had had and made the find," FRRD canine handler Jenny Paddock said.

The volunteer and their canine found Hall's remains about four miles west of the Hessie Trailhead.]
