When police interviewed Norman at his home, he told them Kathy had left the house the previous night following an argument they had.

After the interview, officers noticed blood on the bed of Norman's pickup truck. A sample of the blood was collected and taken in for analysis and the truck was seized.

Fortner's body was found shortly after.

Mesa County Coroner Dean Havlick determined that Fortner was murdered before her body was taken to the monument. He said that a blunt object was used to strike Fortner in the head several times.

According to the arrest affidavit, surveillance cameras set up around the monument captured clear images of Norman driving his truck in the area where Fortner's body was found.

Additional photos from a car wash, located at 2884 North Avenue, showed Norman cleaning his truck, with particular attention to the bed, about 30 minutes after he was seen driving around the monument, according to police.

Norman, 44, was sentenced by District Judge Valerie Robison to serve 48 years in prison, the harshest term available following Norman’s guilty plea last month to second-degree murder in the death of Fortner...

Norman’s truck was allegedly seen on surveillance video at the monument’s west entrance in the early-morning hours of July 2. At one point, he appears to be looking directly into one of the cameras, the affidavit said.
