I am going to bet that if she was going to go to the mall, she would have stopped to get her friend FIRST. Knowing this age as I do (I teach middle school and am the mom to a middle-schooler), they prefer to do that kind of thing with a friend, even if it's just picking out a card. An adult will run a quick errand alone, but since KW was suppose to meet the friend anyway, she would have met her first and then gone with her if it was on the up and up. JMO

I will be very happy when they confirm the hour she was at the mall. Who knows maybe she went there to see somebody.

Does anyone know what time the confirmed mall sightings were at? Thanks. :)

I just got off the phone with Dave Joly from the Denver FBI, he says at this hour more than 300 leads have come in on this case. Earlier today the FBI announced a reward up to $10,000 for any information leading to Kayleah. Joly also says they have two credible witnesses who reported seeing Kayleah around 4:15 p.m. at the Greeley mall last Sunday.

Right now the command post to find Kayleah runs from 8 a.m. – 10 p.m., but if leads come in after the normal hours, investigators will follow up with them immediately. Joly says agents did a search of Kayleah’s mother’s home, “We did a forensic search of the house, went into the home with the consent of the homeowner – we collected DNA samples we felt were Kalyeha’s, and collected DNA samples from everyone in the residence.”

If people saw her at the mall, wouldn't the mall have her on video tape? She may have just stopped at the mall to buy something on the way. A card or something. jmo
OK.....what I'm getting from this is she left home at 3:40pm, and *if* she's at the mall at 4:15pm, it seems she didn't have any intention of going to the birthday party. This is way past when she was supposedly going to meet her friend and walk the rest of the way to the party. :waitasec:

Why would someone remember seeing her at the mall. Why would she have stuck out?

  • #427
Doc, i worked at a mall for 10 years on Sundays, the time 4-6 the place is almost empty, not hard to see folks and remember at all.

Now we need to know what time the party was suppose to start.

Party (was there one, do we know, or was this made up?) was supposed to start at 4.

At least they have narrowed it down to the mall. Malls are full of dark parking areas. It was nice of Dave Jolly to give DG so much info!~

Could LE mean someone who works at the mall (a sales clerk might notice her, especially if she's hanging around waiting for someone).

NG discussed this tonight and the party did exist. :)

Just how long does it take to check surveillance tapes if they already know where she entered and left and what time/

Dave Jolly is one of the people taking tips in on the case (FBI or local LE? I'm not sure...) and DG is websleuths Darlin' Gal :)

I think Darlin Gal was quoting from Michelle Sigona's website.

you would think they would have checked mall tapes days ago? wouldn't they have had results before now? of course, maybe they do.

A couple random comments.

Re the sightings at the mall. Possible that if the family was short on money, she wasn't supposed to be taking a gift to the party - however, she might have saved up a few dollars that mom didn't know about, and planned to stop and get something because she felt bad about not bringing a gift.

Re the library computers - are we sure she actually went to the library? If instead of the library, she went to a friend's house, she could have been using the friend's computer.

Given all that we hear about regarding online predators, I would not rule out the idea of her meeting someone online and having them pick her up at the mall.

Or - she could have gone to the mall to use the mall restroom to change (could have had other clothes on under what she was wearing, or had clothes stashed somewhere.)

Would be interesting to know how often she used her inhaler. If she DIDN'T use it often - or perhaps only used it when physically stressed, then taking it might indicate that she didn't plan to be back.

I keep thinking it must have been a few days after she went missing that they reported seeing her because really not much happened at first.

Something made her stick out to keep that memory in their heads.

I get the feeling the rest of the story we are going to hear is she was with an older guy and he was careful not to be caught on camera.
