OK.....what I'm getting from this is she left home at 3:40pm, and *if* she's at the mall at 4:15pm, it seems she didn't have any intention of going to the birthday party. This is way past when she was supposedly going to meet her friend and walk the rest of the way to the party. :waitasec:

Not necessarily...she was leaving at 3:40 to meet a friend on the way at 4:00, so would assume the party would start after that as they wouldn't meet at the same time the party was starting, could have went into mall to kill time or pick up a gift, the mall is in between her house and where the party was supposed to be so even if the party started at 4:30 or 5:00 that is plenty of time to make it there as it would be only about a 5 minute walk from the mall.

If the party was to start at 4 PM, and KW was seen at the mall at 4:15, then to me it seems like she was not planning to go to that party. I guess that the folks who stated they saw her did not notice her to be in any distress? Was anyone with her? Have they spoken to the person who was supposed to meet her to walk to the party - what does she have to say?
I am not feeling any "gut" reactions here. But it is ominous that she has been gone for 9 days, and she was not prepared for running away, and had no money/clothes/plans.

Why would someone remember seeing her at the mall. Why would she have stuck out?

Trust me our mall is tiny and most of the time only a hand full of people especially at this time on a Sunday since they close at 6:00pm, not a typical mall like you might think...most of our shopping has moved to the west end of town leaving this mall a ghost town.

What if:

Kayleah was going to meet her friend on the other side of the mall - and she took a short cut through the mall to get her to 30th street - and a stranger approached her?

What if Kayleah entered the mall, was going to meet her friend who wasn't there yet, and someone approached her?

What if Kayleah entered the mall for safety reasons because she was being followed?

It would be helpful to know what side of the mall the witnesses saw her?

ETA: It's obvious I don't think Kayleah is missing voluntarily!

Thanks for that information. Possible Kayleah was going to cut through the mall for a short cut and was being stalked? Or ran into someone familiar? Or was stopped for directions?
Going to party & diverted by stalker or someone asking directions? Or not going to party & meeting someone familiar or for first time? Or conflicted about the party anyway and diverted by someone familiar?

Diverted by someone familiar for 9 nights? Wonder if there is anyone else unaccounted for in the town. Maybe someone who has taken a short trip? Don't think anyone else has been reported missing! moo

Seems to me that when she didn't show up at the meeting, her friend would have called her house to find out where she was - unless either she had a reputation for being unreliable, or the friend knew she wasn't really coming.

My thoughts exactly. If the friend thought it was getting late and Kayleah wasn't going to show up - wouldn't she have called her house from the party, or at least from her home after the party to ask her why she didn't show? Personally, I'd be kind of P.O.'ed if i stood waiting for someone to show up and they didn't...
Sounds VERY STRANGE to me!:waitasec:

here is what i just thought of that could have happened...she wandered around the mall for a few minutes, lost track of time, then saw she was late, went out and accepted a ride from someone she recognized (friend of a friend?) who said they would drop her at the party...and instead they/he took her someplace remote...and is either holding her or she will not be coming home...there is no way in my mind that this girl intended to be gone like this. But i still can't get understand what LE knows that is keeping them from just saying, we fear foul play...so maybe there is room for hope.

Very strange. We don't know who she was to meet, which is fine, because she's a minor. We also don't know where and at what time, which seems odd. Could K have been late and not realized she had missed the meeting, and then end up waiting for her friend for long enough to have stood out?

I am sure they do fear foul play - look at suggested ways to help with the search! Foul odor; call if you find the red asthma inhaler, don't touch it; look in ditches and near by remote places etc., They are not able to, as of yet, rule out that she is not a run away - so their message is that both could be possible, but please look at their instructions. They scream of foul play - there is no evidence yet. moo

i didn't mean to say they don't fear foul play, they have to. just that they are still considering other options at this point makes me think they must know something they are not telling...if they don't have anything to show she left on her own, i think foul play is all that is left and they are still leaving it open...that is what i meant. and i hope they DO have something that points to voluntary...
I saw on her Dad's myspace page that he is staying in CA as police told him to, just in case she shows up...although he wants to be Colorado

That is what I thought when I read that article. That is an impressive list of things you can do to help look when someone is missing. It would be helpful in a lot of missing person cases. I have kept it for future reference.

I totally agree. It's like there 'saying it' - without really 'saying it'! I just wish we knew whether they 'think' the meeting a friend story is legit? Doesn't make sense - not even for a bunch of 12 year olds!
Also, if there was a visual sighting of her at the mall - surveillance cameras would confirmed. Everyone needs to see the footage, might 'spark' someone's memory...(if there is any???)

Did anyone see LE in the mall parking lot with dogs?
Short cut thru the mall is good.
Not being timely is good.
Shopper who may know her seeing her in mall maybe good.
Does mall have interior exterior cameras doubtful.
Did she exit mall in direction of party?

This present list, without a doubt, suggests foul play! Other lists I have seen put out by the FBI and LE say things like:

Pay attention if anyone you know changes their appearance; has scratches; sells a car; moves away; has different cell phone activity, etc. These suggestions went out for our Lindsey and for Somer - this list is very different. moo

Important to remember that even if she chose to take off/runaway, something bad might still have happened to her. There are stories of kids being lured into child 🤬🤬🤬🤬/prostitution via the net - she could have taken off with someone expecting one thing and finding herself in another situation entirely.

Would be interesting to hear how happy her home life was - not from family, but from friends.
