Police: Body found in Colorado identified as that of 12-year-old girl missing since March

Police confirmed Thursday that a body recovered from an irrigation ditch in northern Colorado is that of a 12-year-old girl missing since March and she was the victim of homicide.

Greeley Police Chief Jerry Garner said the body recovered Wednesday is that of Kayleah Wilson of Greeley, who was last seen walking to a friend's house for a birthday party.

Garner said Thursday the coroner's office ruled Wilson's death a homicide. He said police know the "manner and cause" of death but he declined to provided details. No one has been arrested, Garner said.

The body had been in the irrigation ditch "for some time" in an area that had been searched twice, Garner said.

Truly sad for this poor girl and her family. I hope her killer/killers are caught and justice is served.

IIRC Kayleah lived (I HATE using the past tense now!) at 28th Ave and #34, but can anyone tell me exactly where her family's apartment is?

Regarding the unclear mall video, wouldn't it be useful for LE to release that to the public even if they weren't sure it was Kayleah? If it was her, they might get some good leads. If it wasn't her then they might have someone contact them to say...'hey, that's not Kayleah....that's me!'. Are they concerned about privacy for unrelated individuals shown in the video?

Just a thought.

The world seems so unfair too many times. Kayleah looks so street smart, but she only 12 just a child. I looked, thought i was a street smart child much to young -like 30 years ago-some street pred/father type figure proved me wrong. He hung out at the bus depo, so if the local hangout for Kayleah is the mall, I'd look for who has disappeared from the scene.
I was googling images for Kayleah and found this site-- Psychics Unite to Help Find Missing Children (one word) blog -- the site says not to quote them so i did not want to link. Interesting because it was written over a month ago. Wondered what you peoples thought. sweet dreams Kayleah.

GREELEY - Police have arrested Kayleah Wilson's former boyfriend on charges of sexual assault on a child, but say it is a separate case from the 12-year-old girl's homicide.



Greeley Police arrested 18-year-old Robert Laurencio Montoya on Wednesday on charges of sexual assault on a child. Montoya is still in the Weld County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond.

He also faces a charge of sexual assault on a child as a pattern of abuse.

Montoya appeared in court on Friday morning for a bond hearing and will be back in court on May 25.

He has not been named as a suspect in Kayleah's murder.

Wilson's body was found in a Greeley drainage ditch on Wednesday morning.

She went missing on March 28 when she left her home for a birthday party but never arrived.

When she was found, investigators say Kayleah had been killed some time ago. Her body was in an advanced state of decomposition so the Weld County Coroner's office had to identify her through dental records.

Greeley Police are still looking for additional tips related to the investigation. Anyone with information is urged to call 970-350-9600. There is a $20,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction

I posted earlier that it bothered me about the "boyfriend", it seemed preditory due to her age.
She was only 12 years old and noone seemed to state how long this young girl was "dating" him.

YES. IMO Kayleah is the girl in the black top and jeans with "Robert" at the start of this particular video. (About :20 seconds in) There is a set of 3 videos that was posted on a social networking site under April Wilson's account name. (AW is Kayleah's mom). WAY back in thread 1 or 2? I think these videos were talked about~~~ When I read the name of who was arrested I recalled someone being called "Robert" in the video.
