Hes just not that tech savvy or I dont think so.
Is he smart enough to act dumb?
Maybe both/neither/half and half. He may be a complete dolt but he could very well be the type to wear a tin foil hat at night while researching conspiracy theories on the YewTewb. Could go either way, IMO. MOO

Thank you for elaborating.
I’m not surprised by his audacious performance- he’s a mental health hot mess. While he likes to portray power and mega self esteem- the opposite is true. He’s a train wreck (Drew Peterson)
But in this situation, I think, he does want the life he had. He lives with his mother on a farm. Whether he likes the farm life or simply feels uncomfortable to get uprooted and work at his career is a question (someone described him as shy, so maybe the latter). How much diversity does the farm life offer relationship-wise is a question. One restaurant, everyone is known. I think it would be difficult, or maybe it is his shyness, or living with mom, anyhow, this 32-year old man is unmarried, his relationship with KB doesn't sound promising to me, but he has the daughter.

And he is 32, emotionally ready to have kids. And he and his mom spend a lot of time raising this baby. And I bet he is very much attached to her. The fact that he takes her everywhere now, I don't know how you view it, but if he is guilty, he probably unsure if he will raise her and wants to spend as much time with her as possible.

And I think whatever happened was an accident and his wish was not to change anything in his life, or be able to see the kid every day.
But does PF want to marry the mother KB? Does he feel obliged yet conflicted to ‘do the right thing, to do the moral thing’ ? He may accept the baby but not want to marry the mother, but feels trapped into doing so. They weren’t a couple for very long when the child was born. He is surrounded by ‘do-gooders’, his family in law enforcement , her family and KB very religious. The baby was born 14 months ago and she is still his fiancé?- with no set plans for marriage. Does he feel pressured into this marriage? Is his moral compass conflicted with not wanting to marry her? Does he want to back out but feels he can’t ? Is he stalling the inevitable still living with his mother? Was the pressure to marry and buy a house together too intense at this point? Did he find a way out by eliminating her, thinking he wouldn’t be caught to avoid the walk of shame? Was it planned or a spontaneous rage? I think his situation has the hallmark potentials of this ‘toxic shame’ phenomenon I read and posted about.

If they are able to do a "tower dump" and obtain the phone numbers of all cell phones that accessed a tower on a particular date, then they can compare those numbers to the cell phone number of a suspect's known family, friends, and associates, and then if they see matches that look suspicious, then they could probably obtain a warrant to perform a more intrusive search.

I thought I read that a tower dump wouldn't be useful because the tower dump only stores information for 3-5 days. She wasn't reported missing in time so the window of opportunity was missed.

I've never posted a picture, so we'll see if this works. This is actually the first place that popped into my head thinking about a good place to dispose of a phone. The Malad Gorge runs right under the freeway. It's 10 miles from Gooding as the crow flys. The rust colored bridge is for pedestrians. The freeway with the truck is in the background. You drive a few minutes to get down to a park to access the pedestrian bridge. But you wouldn't have to, just throw the phone out the window as you pass over the Gorge.

We don’t know that it didn’t do we? The only reports I’ve seen mention that it last pinged at that location.
This is an excellent point. I admit to wondering if LE left out that it might have pinged elsewhere along the way to Idaho. It just seems strange that it would ping in just one area.

It was asked in the previous thread "what is the maximum distance a tower can be pinged from", in part to analyze the hypothesis that the ping from KB's phone was sent from an extended range via some sort of booster. I replied in that thread but want to repeat here.

I am an engineer although not a cell phone engineer. After digging deeply into the technical documentation of various cell phone protocols I've come up with the following absolute distance limits:

GSM: 35 km (21 miles)
"Extended Range" GSM: 70 km (42 miles)
LTE: 100 km (62 miles)

These limits are due to timing and not signal strength.

Without geeking out into the details, here is how a ping works:

Tower: Have any new phones wandered into my range?
Phone: I'm a phone!
Tower: Who are you?
Phone: I'm KB's phone!

Until the last message completes the phone has not identified itself. However, the cell phone standards requires that these messages happen with very strict timing. And that timing dictates that even for radio signals traveling at the speed of light, the sending phone isn't going to be further away than the standard allows.

Bottom line: The theory of a cowboy in his truck on a mountain in Colorado sticking up an antenna and pinging a tower in Idaho is impossible.

Source: I looked at about two dozen documents to figure this out. A very concise, although technical, description of the distance limit can be found in this document.

Thank you so much for this informative information.

It is very helpful to know this and not just for this case but for others where it may be very helpful to know how far a phone can ping a tower. So thanks so much for the nice concise answer to this.

on 9 News at 9:00 they repeated what we already know. FYI

ETA: this is a Denver channel and not the same channel linked earlier with the 10p update

This area is exactly what came to mind for me as well when Gooding was mentioned.

Do people ever commit suicide there?

Yes. Once I found out that the ping near Gooding could be up to 45 miles, I started thinking of places you could dispose of a phone etc. Having said that, there are hundreds of other places in Idaho and the other states involved you could dispose of evidence. I don't necessarily think this is the place. It's just that a lot of people drive right over it and don't realize it's there.

This area is exactly what came to mind for me as well when Gooding was mentioned.

Good Guess.
That spot sounds like a possible candidate for not only the phone being tossed but possibly a body as well.

It made me wonder. I have to wonder if someone had 100 phones that were completely turned off and threw each one off of the bridge to have them smash onto the rocks, then what are the odds that 1 or more of them would send out a ping signal as its electronics became smashed, meshed together, short circuited, etc.?

Could something that like explain the last mystery ping?

Wonder if any studies have ever been done to see if smashing a perfectly good phone that is turned off would occasionally make a last solitary ping as it fizzles out and breaks apart? Hmmmmm

But the opposite might be true as well. The pressure to marry might be higher if a woman really wants to have a child. KB already has a child! And people are different, but would a woman who got out of a hay farm want to go back to a farm and spend a life there? And PF seems good-looking enough, and tall, but in aviation, there are lots of good-looking men, sharing her passion. Between them two, I think she could compare, and be the first to get disappointed in what he was offering. Keep in mind, financially she was independent from him.

I don't think she had an affair, maybe she wanted to grow professionally, and maybe I am thinking of a farm life as uninteresting because I am a big city girl. (Even a suburb is dull to me, schools are good here, though).

So perhaps you are right and I am wrong, but looking at her, pretty, young, a pilot, I think, gal, you have chances to grow in your profession, the sky, don't tie yourself up to the farm. Farm is soil.

P. S. Agree about him being a mess, btw.

yeah... unfortunately that's a C. Springs channel and not showing up on my 'Guide'. I am recording all 10p Denver local news though.

Interesting! A google earth streetview from the overlook shows a sign calling it "Devil's Washbowl": Google Maps

No. They haven’t mentioned what, if anything, was found during their search.

Unless there is a leak, we will have to wait.
