Speculation: I wonder if PF's mom agreed to give up custody (at least temporarily) while this chaos is happening in her home? Perhaps she didn't feel up to caring for a little one while her son is hauled off to jail. IDK - just idling thinking aloud.

Right, she is probably in shock right now and not thinking completely straight. Whereas KB's family has been in shock much longer and have probably been thinking about little K alot. Or there could be other reasons that we are not aware of- support network , age, finances, etc that each family took into consideration . No matter how much you may love a child, it is alot to take on the responsibility of raising a 1 yr old for the next quarter of a century...

Because the #1 cause of death in pregnant women is HOMICIDE!!
She was engaged, but no dress had been bought, no date selected... and they had just broken up. (Allgedly)
Being pregnant & leaving him with their 15 month old, put her in one of the most if not THE MOST DANGEROUS positions that a woman of child bearing age could be in.

For clarity, in case this has not been answered yet:

No. This case was filed today.

It lists KB as a party because she has not been legally declared dead at this point, and both parents have to be listed as parties. If and when she is officially declared deceased, then she will be dropped as a party.

The court has discretion to allow additional parties to join the case. So far none are listed. I would expect this to change, but not before 12/27.

I agree and I would think they would file an emergency motion since both parents are not able to care for the baby, however if no one is disputing the arrangement made by child protective services it may not be necessary. Court dates seem to be scheduled out 2 months for parenting time issues in Colorado. IMO it's probable if what her aunt said was true that she had called off the engagement (either KB or PF) petitioned the court 2 months ago.

Not for child protective issues and state custody. Child welfare can get court dates in days due to mandates they have to meet timelines. For example today an incident happened and CPS got a spot in court on Mon Dec 24 regarding access. This isn't in Colorado but it is similar everywhere

I don’t know if he is in the same amount of danger that Chris Watts is in other prisoners really don’t like child killers in prison. Kelsey’s case is different I am sure there are other prisoners who have killed their partner in the jail. I’m not minimising what has happened to Kelsey it is horrendous, wicked and evil too.

It's still unclear to me whether Baby K is physically with KB's family yet or if it's just that were able to see her. I know reporter Sam's tweet said she was with KB's family but it seemed like he was just reporting that from what he heard at the press conference -- which isn't exactly what the police chief said. The chief said K was in protective custody and would be reunited with Kelsey's family. I hope she is with them and staying with them already, but it was unclear to me if that's the case until the temporary custody hearing. Hopefully they have her and it wasn't just a visit until the hearing.

Our dockets are numbered when the hearing/trial is scheduled numerically - if CO also does this -we could check the numbering of hearings before and after and potentially guess when it really was scheduled ? But I believe this is to confirm with a court order what apparently has taken place by CPS - that is award temporary custody to CB and family JMO

The other most dangerous time for a woman is when trying to end a relationship. I don’t see any indication that she was pregnant. I think she may have wanted to take her baby and move away and/or end relationship for good. May well be a custody issue in his head. He made sure to secure the baby first. Jmo

That seems to be a new hearing for what the baby’s future holds in light of her mother being murdered imo.

You don't think this was a hearing scheduled for KB and PF to determine temp custody and child support?

I personally don’t. In my limited experience, dockets/court dates are usually set weeks (or longer) in advance unless there’s an emergency situation. In my opinion, had Kelsey filed, we (esp. the media) would’ve heard about it long ago.

I believe this is related to establishing temporary custody (emergency situation) for Baby K, given that CPS is a named party (the agency likely has temporary, legal custody). IMO Kelsey is a named party because she has not been formally declared deceased. I believe the Dec. 27 court date is a formality in granting (temporary) custody to Kelsey’s family. IMO.

The sheriff says this isn't related to the case at the bottom of the article....

The sheriff's office confirmed that it is not related to the Colorado case and that it is a local case at this time.

Yep, nice group there. There were a few great newbies, please don't think I am attacking anyone new. Just a couple who were loudly cutting Kelsey down and praising Patrick. "He would NEVER hurt anyone!".

Oh yeah. Right up until the arrest some were so upset that an "innocent" man had his life turned upside down by LE.
