I agree that this has a Susan Powell type feeling.
Poof! She's gone.
Even if what KB's parents are doing is unusual, they are making baby K their #1 priority.
Sadly Susan's parents hands were forced. They didn't trust Scott and didn't want the boys to go, but the law gave them no choice.
I hope the Berreth's are circumventing any chance of that ever happening!!
