Ok.....this may not be her then since I doubt her remains would be skeletonized already. This article seems to point to another possible individual named Kevin who went missing in that area. So we maybe ok that it is not her.

RIP to whoever the victim is. Wasnt Mt. Herman listed in another case here also or am I thinking of another Mountain?

Theoretically, if things are as portrayed by Kelsey's mother, I would expect that finding PF's DNA in Kelsey's house, car, etc. would not be something that would stand out. It would be indicative of nothing.

Evidence tells a story. I don’t think DNA can always be used as “proof” of a crime, but it can still be used as part of a larger puzzle. Particularly in difficult cases, where something/someone major is not found.

The implication in that article ties the remains to the missing hiker that disappeared back in September. It fits the profile of the condition of the remains, should that characterization (skeletal) be accurate. Either way it’s sad and I’m sorry to whichever family is going to get the worst kind of news.

It hasn't been announced if the remains are male or female, so don't start jumping to conclusions yet. It takes time for a body to turn into skeletal remains, especially in winter months. So this may not be related to this case.

Kevin's "Help Find" page confirms his remains were found.

At least his family doesn't have to wonder anymore...hopefully this will give them a little bit of closure.

I hope KB's family gets some resolution soon as well.

I had a daughter who attended CUBoulder. Boulder has plenty of danger. I would think that it would be easier to avoid dangerous places at CSUPueblo, but I haven't really been there to check it out. I'm so glad to done with Boulder.

LOL. I was thinking the exact same thing. I know both cities well and while Pueblo has its crime/gang problems, they are fairly easy to avoid. I would actually feel MUCH better about a daughter going to school in Pueblo than in Boulder.

This is good to know! Thanks!
I meant to comment on the quotes above. Still learning! LOL

regarding the "skeletal remains" found, It would not be Kelsey for it isn't long enough for that process to happen. Yes, RIP to the mysterious person who perished, but it doesn't seem feasible that it is Kelsey. We gotta keep faith everyone, she'll return home. :)

I frequently am able to use my phone on commercial airlines @30K feet so my guess is yes.
...RSBM for focus...
No, cell phones do not ping towers from the air. Both towers and cell phones are searching for signals at ground level. The technology for in-flight cell phone use became available in 2004 (link below). The technology accesses the plane's own satellite direct system. Altitude, air speed, and flying over vast areas of no coverage are issues in not being able to ping towers. There have been satellite direct phones available since the 1990s for extreme travellers, mountain climbers, maritime users... the costs continue to be very high. Google more info on "satellite phones" or "Iridium phones".

Her mother also said she may have changed her clothes and did her hair that afternoon and may not have been wearing the same clothes as in the Safeway video. Wouldn't the clothes in the video be found in her home if she had changed them? They surely would know, unless she may have changed clothes and did her hair elsewhere.

I'm not sure I'm following you... Are you suggesting the phone is in a package that was mailed/shipped/couriered to Gooding, ID? If that is the case, why did it not ping (as far as we know) along the way - anywhere other than Gooding? A phone can't turn itself on (yet).
Maybe it was off, until a certain person got it in the mail. I have wondered this myself.

Did Kelsey have someone from her past that lives in Gooding, Idaho? Maybe a friend covering for her, hence the "possible" mail delivery of her phone to someone she trusted, because she was scared or threatened by someone and feared for her own life? It may not even be related to PF, it could be a student or former student, a co-worker, etc- she might have been afraid to get her loved ones and friends involved, fearing for their safety as well as her own. Maybe she didn't want to contact them, to keep them safe.

I know, farfetched theory, but that phone ping and those two text messages are really bugging me. We're not talking an hour or two away, 10-20 miles away. Somehow, her phone is out there in Gooding, Idaho.

If she left on her own and is safe somewhere, then I hope and pray she contacts her Mom, at the very least. Still, it doesn't make sense to me, for her to abandon her home that has a mortgage, her vehicles, and most especially, her daughter! I wonder if she wanted to move closer to her family, especially since it doesn't appear that they are getting married anytime soon, and he said, "oh hell no, and if you leave, you aren't taking the baby with you!". All of the above is JMO and speculation only.

No- that is not what I am talking about. I have sent text messages and even email with a normal cellular connection from commercial planes. Its not great but it works sometimes. For example sometimes you hit send and it doesn't send for an hour or so until it gets a tower in range. Ask some frequent business travelers.

So her family is quite religious but okay that her brother is gay? Or am I misreading some of these news reports and posts?

This is relevant, because if they're not as buttoned up as some people have suggested, then Kelsey may not have been "acting" with the whole fiance thing. A few posts have suggested that having a fiance may have been a front to appease the families. If her brother is gay and her family is fine with that, it doesn't follow that they would care that much whether she was getting married to her daughter's father or not. Of course, people are not always logical (I had a relative who was fine with homosexuality but not with mixed-race relationships!).
