I thought about this too... Unless he pulled a CW and backed the truck up to the garage and nobody noticed. I thought I heard somewhere a person has to be deceased at least 15 min for a cadaver dog to pick up a scent.
I’m pretty sure they can pick up scents of gasses released from a dead body in a matter of SECONDS. I remember researching cadaver dogs for another case.
