NBC News filed a request asking for a sketch artist to be permitted in the courtroom.

A SKETCH ARTIST, like they allow in federal court during high profile trials.

DENIED. Apparently Judge Sells doesn’t just run a tight ship, he’s turned his courtroom into Communist China.

The denial of EMC happens. The denial of a sketch artist & live-reporting seem excessive.

What in the wide, wide world of sports is going on here?!?

What's next, PF's l'il tent of secrecy is moved into the courtroom and erected over the defense table so no one can see him? Or will they just turn the public seats around to face the rear of the courtroom?

How in the %#€*? would a sketch artist violate the decorum order?

I want to know what other special treatment Mr. Don't-Look-At-Me has been getting while he's been a guest at the graybar hotel.

Here's the new ruling https://www.courts.state.co.us/userfiles/file/Court_Probation/04th_Judicial_District/Teller/caseofinterest/2018CR330/Order_ Motion to Allow EMC NBC News.pdf

ETA: From the ruling: "The motion/proposed order attached hereto: DENIED.

I have reviewed the motion. I am concerned about the privacy of jurors, witnesses and maintaining the integrity of the proceedings. A prior Decorum Order has been entered that prohibits any photographs in Division 11, the courthouse or courthouse grounds. A sketch artist drawing pictures for publication would be a violation of the Decorum Order. The motion is Denied. "

Can't believe it's actually going to start tomorrow. I'm traveling so I'll be out of pocket until tomorrow evening. Super pissy that the Judge has issued such a strict decorum order, inquiring minds want to know! I'd give anything to see KK's testimony especially.

My thoughts are with the Berreth family. I cannot imagine the stress and emotional turmoil they will be facing for the next few weeks. They are a close family, strong in their faith, and will be the best advocates for Kelsey. DA May is going to paint the picture and back it up with facts; PF is going to be spending this Thanksgiving and a lifetime more as Inmate Frazee.

I’m most looking forward to opening statements, as that will give us a roadmap for how both sides plan to proceed.

I’m most interested in what the defense has to say, as I’ve tried to figure out their best strategy here, but haven’t been able to make anything fit with the evidence.

No camera recording on courthouse property. No live-reporting. No sketch artist.

This is.. quite restrictive.

People v. Frazee: The Court has ruled on the Motion to Allow EMC NBC News. Motion DENIED. A sketch artist will not be permitted in court or the courthouse per the standing decorum order. courts.state.co.us/userfiles/file…

I can't believe they won't even have a sketch artist. Sure, nobody really needs sketches of PF since his expression never changes.

But look at how well this sketch from February captures the officer in the background giving PF the biggest dose of side-eye I've ever seen. It's priceless.

I'm with you, I can't imagine either.

Yeah, that side-eye is funny. Guess the media will have to use that artist's rendering.

It's really pretty complimentary of PF, the artist left out his (uneven) bangs, IMO.

"Judges are held to high legal and ethical standards. They must treat all people in their courtrooms with fairness and impartiality. Judges who show favoritism in court or who commit judicial errors that create unfair results face consequences. Judges must avoid even the appearance of favoritism so that the courts remain respected, reliable forums for justice."

What to Do When a Judge Is Unfair

I can't help but feel there's some impartiality for PF with this judge

I think he’s just being super cautious. In the long-run, behavior like this will limit PF’s avenues for appeal.

I’m still not a fan though, especially with the lack of live reporting.

I laughed way too hard at this. :D

Also, like previously mentioned by @MassGuy, it's really just the principle. We all know it will be the same dumb look day after day on his face. Although I am curious if he will have any change of expression when his rodeo queen takes the stand.

Speaking of her, how does that work, with her living in Idaho. Do they give her a heads up about what day she will need to be there, or is she expected to be in Teller County during these 3 weeks? If so, do they hide her out under the tent for 3 weeks or should we just keep an eye out for her at the local Sonic?

I agree 100%. There's just nothing to be done. Poor Steigerwald. Reminds me of the Dellen Millard case. His lawyer could not put up an effective defense because there was a "plethora" of evidence against DM. How does one fight that? Some lawyers are like Captains that have no choice but to go down with the ship.

I’m super curious as to the defense strategy also. Other than trying to go after KK and her credibility I can’t think of any other strategy. Maybe a PF is gonna say KB gave him her phone and told him to send those texts, that’s why their phones were together? (Just one example of them trying to explain the evidence).

Hmmm, I'm not sure how KK's scheduling would work, is there a Sonic that would be considered courthouse-adjacent? Y'know, in case they needed to get to her quickly.

She could probably get a monthly rate on an AirBnB, since it's off season; and just use it when she absolutely has to. IMO

Sorry I'm behind but the jury is finalized? They are ahead of schedule and starting tomorrow? Or was that the plan? And without access to courtroom how will we hearing the opening statements? Only at breaks from reporters? TIA! MOO

Being the ‘star’ witness, she may demand her own tent.
And no brown M&M’s.

Not yet, the jury should be finalized today I guess. The plan was for opening statements to begin on Friday afternoon, and it looks like everything is on track.

The flow of information will be delayed, as the judge will not allow Tweeting from the courtroom. During each break, reporters will rush outside and file their updates/send their Tweets.

So the trial will be covered, but we won’t have instant updates like we had during the preliminary hearing.

As a witness, she's been probably been subpoenaed to testify and her attorney will be responsible for monitoring the court calendar for her testimony.

I'm sure she's not going to be in the state of Colorado any earlier than is necessary out of safety concerns. I don't think I can think of another person in recent history that is more persona non grata than KK.

(I recall KK was required to be photographed in Woodland Park (WPPD), but seems her actual arrest was wrapped up in her sealed plea deal). And no bond required for her release.

Well, of course the prosecution's biggest witness (tm @MassGuy) would need her own tent.

What a rough day for the bovines and brown m&ms though.
