""I'm really grateful to know that we know the answer," said Saxton. "And this needs to just be a lesson or a warning to all of, you know, the other families, [who] have missing family members that these people are out there. They're looking for you. They're studying you. They don't have a problem with hurting you and taking your money.""

"To this day, Schelling's family and friends continue their intense search for Schelling and are desperate to know what happened to her.

"It's like a needle in a haystack. All I can say is [I have] my love for my daughter. And [there's] the fact that I don't think I can survive if I don't find her," Laura Saxton, Schelling's mother, told ABC News' "20/20.""

I can't believe the boyfriend has not been arrested. Seems like a lot of evidence. Haven't we seen other cases with similar evidence where there was an arrest. I pray her mom get answers and soon!

I didn't know anything about this case until 20/20. I'm confused about the mother's statement about an abortion being on video. Was there some kind of video she watched??

How Dante is walking free is so beyond me. Guilty as sin.

I just watched 20/20... This is the first I've heard of this case and I can't believe how poorly the Pueblo PD have handled it... The Deputy Police Chief seemed more concerned with defending their investigation than he was with the fact that this young, beautiful expectant mom went missing and there is a wealth of evidence pointing to a very obvious crime... There's videos and cellular evidence showing who's responsible for Kelsie never being seen again... not to mention his story was completely blown by investigators. And he's caught on tape trying to cover up her disappearance... Sadly, it doesn't take much to infer what happened off video... It seems we live in a time where unless the crime itself is not caught on video it didn't happen. Never mind common sense and that some of us still have the ability to look at circumstances and add 2+2... Take, for example, the video of the car at Walmart, after DL (caught on tape) drives her car up and abandons it, "someone" walks back into the frame 18 hours later and gets in her car and drives it off, BUT the Police Chief dismisses it because they just can't say 100% who drove it away... I mean, come on... What other really tall guy, with a hoody pulled over his head (like he did when he abandoned it) is strutting through the Walmart parking lot (like he did when he abandoned it) with a set of keys to her car?... That seemed to be the attitude of the entire investigation, imo... They just didn't seem interested in the fact that a very apparent crime had taken place, because it wasn't 100%... They didn't seem to be very interested in the fact that it's quite possible a very dangerous person was walking free in their community.... Even though there's 100% proof she arrived in Pueblo, there's 100% proof she met DL (including his own admission), and there's 100% proof she completely disappeared from that moment on and has never been seen by anyone to this day...

Of course there was a crime...and there's no doubt in my mind who did it...

I'm soooooo thankful the CBI is taking over her case. I pray Kelsie's mother gets some answers... my heart aches for her...

All jmo.

They have never processed her car either. Totally blows my mind!

I believe that maybe the convo with Kelsie telling DL she was preg, he wanted her to abort could be on video.

I believe that maybe the convo with Kelsie telling DL she was preg, he wanted her to abort could be on video.

Actually, I think that "video" they are talking about doesn't exist. I believe in the Facebook extortion posts, the extortionist told Kelsie's mom that video existed of her supposedly alive and getting an abortion and that the suppposed video was essentially a proof of life type situation. I don't think the extortionist ever referenced Donthe.

I can't stop thinking about this case... I was just wondering, and I saw some mention earlier in the thread, about the family trying to make contact with Tim Miller (TES), especially with the new movement in the case... I don't know if there are any insiders here, or anyone who has contact with the family or any of their groups, but it might not be a bad idea for the family to contact them and try to get them involved...especially since the Pueblo PD is no longer a thorn in their side...

Anyone know anything about the family having any contact with TES in the past?

All jmo.

Hi Seajay, long time no see.

O/T, I just saw recently in another case, I think it might have been Tiffany Daniels' case on Disappeared, that there is actually an official term used for these individuals, I can not remember the name, but it happens frequently enough that there is a specialized term for this type of crime, these offenders and their attempt at this type of extortion. In TD's case, these people also contacted her family from overseas.

Hey Margarita. It has been forever. I read but usually don't post much.

I think it's horrible that people do this to families that have already been victimized. I don't know what go s though their minds but ice water runs through their veins.

I watched her 20/20 episode and it's so clear who did it. I hope he is charged soon now that her case has been escalated to higher authorities.

Saw the case too, and it will be hard to charge him. There's a cold case out here in PA, where EVERYBODY knows it was the husband did it. Only problem is... no body, no real motive.

A good defense attorney can always argue that she can walk through the door any day. I mean sure, they have the b/f being upset about the pregnancy, but that's a far stretch to murder. The police blew this in the early stages, now that the feds may get involved, maybe they can do some digging and get him him to slip up.

When watching this on 20/20, I got so pissed off at the guy who tried scam the families for money. This could make you seriously hurt someone over playing with your emotions this way.

It reminds of the case that's on here regarding Amy Bradley. Where these private investigators were pretending that they were closing in on info regarding her. They were just taking the money and hanging out in bars down in the ports where she went missing.

Idk, I think this case has a lot more evidence than just a b/f being upset about the pregnancy... If you put me on the jury with what they have right now I'd have no problem voting guilty on murder 1....

Like many others, I found out about this case because of the 20/20 episode; needless to say, I was absolutely fuming by the time it finished. The extent to which the police department in Pueblo bungled this case is dumbfounding. Incompetence of the highest order! The fact that they seem so blasé about their piss-poor performance and yet, can't be bothered to hand off the case to another agency which could possibly bring justice to this mother, is infuriating beyond words. It's obvious to everyone WHO caused Kelsie to disappear.

They say there isn't enough evidence, but I think a skilled lawyer could make a good case. Even more so, I think investigators outside of Pueblo PD could interrogate him much more effectively and get information out of him, maybe even a confession of sorts. Just from the footage they shared, he doesn't seem to me like a very emotionally/mentally "strong" person – if Pueblo LE had not totally screwed up the interview, they could have broke him, or at least locked him into a story and/or gotten him to reveal helpful information, intentional or otherwise. They should hand the case off to more seasoned investigators before they wreck this case anymore than they already have.

Hopefully the 20/20 story will help keep this case in the media and put pressure on Pueblo PD to do SOMETHING. Kelsie deserves it. Her baby deserves it. Just reading those text messages Donthe sent to her that night, drawing her in with vague promises of a gift, of a surprise so grand that she wouldn't believe it...my stomach knotted up.

Speaking of which: did the investigators (or anyone else) ever ask Donthe what his big "present/surprise" was for her? Obviously it was his way of luring her to him, but I'd like to hear what his B.S. answers would be...

I believe it was turned over to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation...at least that's what I heard announced on 7news after the show aired Friday night...I like your point about the surprise he want to show her...just would be interested to hear his answer...I'm curious about possible reasons why Danthe and his family seem to be getting preferential treatment here...any ideas?...anyone?

I'm just play advocate here, so please don't take this debate as support for him. You know more than likely he did it... I know more than likely he did it, but when it comes to proving it in a court of law... It's a whole other animal. You can't accuse someone of a murder, when you can't even confirm if there's a death. Right now...she's missing. Even if we know he's involved, without something concrete... a body, blood stains, a text message of a threat... we can't prove or even charge him with anything.

Above people are discussing about cornering him on how he lured her there... irrelevant. He could make up anything... I gave her a gift which was a flower I picked.... Where could you go with that information. Even if he said he was giving her something that could be proved he never purchased, it's still not enough. If they are going to go after this monster, then they are going to have to come with some new damming evidence. Cause right now, they know he lied, not arrest-able offense.

Me too. There is no doubt in my mind that he killed her or had her killed.

Those not familiar with the case should read the lawsuit by Kelsie's mom. There is much Pueblo LE failed to do. See my post here

Case 1:15-cv-00255-MJW Document 1 Filed 02/05/15 USDC Colorado

IN THE UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT
FOR THE DISTRICT OF COLORADO
Civil Action No. 15-cv-255
LAURA SAXTON and
DOUG SCHELLING, as the surviving parent of Kelsie Schelling, decedent.

DONTHE LUCAS,
DAWN SHAY LUCAS,
DETECTIVE NEAL ROBINSON, in his individual capacity,
SERGEANT KEN ESPINOZA, in his individual capacity,
DEPUTY POLICE CHIEF ANDREW McLACHLAN, in his individual capacity, and
CITY OF PUEBLO, COLORADO,

COMPLAINT FOR DAMAGES AND JURY DEMAND

Plaintiffs, above-named, by and through its counsel, Lonn M. Heymann of Lonn
Heymann Law Firm, P.C., for their Complaint for Damages and Jury Demand hereby
allege as follows:

INTRODUCTION

1. This is a civil rights action for damages resulting from the deprivation of
civil rights under color of law. Kelsie Schelling’s parents, Laura Saxton and Doug
Schelling (herein referred to collectively as “Plaintiffs”), seek damages, declaratory, and
injunctive relief to remedy the deprivation of their right of access to courts by the City of
Pueblo, Colorado, Detective Neal Robinson, Sergeant Ken Espinoza, and Deputy Police
Chief Andrew McLachlan (herein referred to collectively as “Pueblo Police Department
Defendants”). Plaintiff’s also state a claim for wrongful death against Donthe Lucas, Sara
Lucas, Vivian Lucas, and Dawn Shay Lucas (herein referred to collectively as “Lucas

2. Plaintiffs seek relief for the Pueblo Police Department Defendants’
deliberate interference with their right to file a wrongful death lawsuit in Colorado
District Court, pursuant to Colorado Wrongful Death Act, C.R.S. § 13-21-201, et seq., by
refusing to open and investigate a criminal case arising from the death and disappearance
of Kelsie Schelling on or about February 5, 2013, in Pueblo, Colorado, by tampering with
or destroying evidence material to any wrongful death claim, by deliberately disregarding
compelling leads and evidence pointing to the homicide of Kelsie Schelling by Donthe
Lucas, with whom Kelsie Schelling had driven from Denver to Pueblo to discuss her
pregnancy with his child.

FACTUAL BACKGROUND

9. Kelsie Schelling (herein “Kelsie”) was feloniously killed on or about
February 5, 2013 by Donthe Lucas. The Lucas Defendants conspired with or acted as an
Case 1:15-cv-00255-MJW Document 1 Filed 02/05/15 USDC Colorado Page 4 of 21

10. Kelsie’s disappearance occurred after she was “coaxed” into traveling to
Pueblo Colorado on February 4, 2013 by Donthe Lucas (Father of Kelsie’s child) and his
mother Sara Lucas. Kelsie attended medical appointment in Denver during the morning
hours of February 4 and confirmed that she was two months pregnant with Donthe
Lucas’s child. Communications between Kelsie, Donthe and Sara Lucas via text
messages and phones calls indicates that Donthe and Sara sent a plethora of messages
trying to convince Kelsie to travel to Pueblo before attending her Doctors appointment.
Kelsie however elected to wait and attended the medical appointment and confirmed she
was in fact pregnant before traveling to meet with Donthe and his mother. After the
Doctor’s appointment Kelsie returned to work and finished the work-day before traveling

11. At 11:20p.m. on the evening of February 4, 2013, Kelsie arrived at the
Wal-Mart at 4080 West Northern, Pueblo, Colorado to meet Donthe as directed by him.
Donthe was not at Wal-Mart and kept stalling for time through text messages before
directing her to another unknown location. At 12:32 a.m., in the early morning hours of
February 5, 2013 Kelsie sent Donthe a text message wanting to know where he was at,
complaining that she had been waiting for over an hour for him. That was the last
confirmed message that will indicate that Kelsie was alive. At 3:54 a.m. Donthe calls
Kelsie's cell phone. According to cellular tower pings and triangulation, Donthe and
Kelsie’s cell phones where in a very close proximity of each other and concluded that
Donthe had no reason to call the Kelsie’s phone. The theory is that Kelsie had been
murdered before this call was made and that the call was made to Kelsie’s phone to locate

12. Throughout the rest of the night various text messages were
communicated between Kelsie’s cell phone and Donthe’s cell phone. An analysis of text
verbiage from Kelsie’s phone after the 3:54A.M. time period, would indicate that the
messages where not being typed by Kelsie and the wording, spelling and type of verbiage
used was not close to the traditional verbiage used in previous messages. The content of
the messages made no sense and were out of context.

13. At 11:39 a.m., on February 5, 2013, Donthe Lucas travels to Canon
National Bank in Pueblo, driving Kelsie’s 2011 Black Chevrolet Cruze and withdraws
$400.00 cash from the ATM with Kelsie’s ATM card. Surveillance video clearly shows
that that Donthe Lucas is driving the car and that Kelsie is not present.

14. Donthe Lucas is then observed by surveillance video parking Kelsie’s car
at the Wal-Mart parking lot, located at 4080 West Northern Avenue in Pueblo. Donthe
exits the car and walks to the rear of the store where he was picked up by his mother,
Sara Lucas, and grandmother, Vivian Lucas. For the next 18 hours, Kelsie’s car sits in the
same parked position. No one else exits the car or enters the car until February 6, 2013 at
7:20 a.m. when an African-American male walks directly to the car from the same
walking path that Donthe Lucas takes to leave the car from the rear of the store. That
male was accompanied in another vehicle by Dawn Shay Lucas who acted as a lookout.
Case 1:15-cv-00255-MJW Document 1 Filed 02/05/15 USDC Colorado Page 6 of 21

15. Immediately following the evident criminal conduct toward Kelsie
Schelling, her family, Plaintiffs, filed a missing person’s report and sought the assistance
of law enforcement, including the Pueblo Police Department, and the media.

16. As of February 5, 2015, there is no record listed within the Pueblo Police
Departments online records data-base that Kelsie Schelling’s disappearance has ever been
logged as an open investigation assigned with a Pueblo Police Department case number.
There has never been a Pueblo Police Department Case File Number identified to
Kelsie’s family or to the Investigators that the family has privately hired.

17. The Pueblo Police failed to retrieve evidence from the Denver Police
Department to be submitted to the Colorado Crime Laboratory to obtain DNA
classification required to be submitted into a National data-base. Over a year later, these
items were not processed for DNA.

This link was posted on the Help Find Kelsie page...it's an article about a former FBI profiler who saw the 20/20 broadcast and sees several weaknesses in the PPD interview techniques ... He doesn't think it's too late to corner this guy... I hope so...I just don't understand the PPD at all...and it is most concerning that included with the post is a statement that they have heard nothing yet about the case being transferred ...

Just saw this case on 20/20. It's so obvious the boyfriend lied and was the last person to see her alive, then the next day he's using her car and her ATM card.. She was probably dead at that point. Marcus in the red cap was an extortion plot. JMO.

Murder convictions are obtainable without bodies. Hans Reiser is a prominent one. Sierra LaMar's murderer is about to be tried without her body. Sometimes it's obvious the person is dead when there is no sign or them or no contact with anyone.

Saw the case too, and it will be hard to charge him. There's a cold case out here in PA, where EVERYBODY knows it was the husband did it. Only problem is... no body, no real motive.

Oh, they have motive in this case without a body- he knew she was pregnant, he didn't want to be a father. The sonograms exist. It was motive enough for Scott Peterson. Don't need any other motives.
