Dan Wallick, 41, an active duty lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force, was reported overdue to return on July 24, according to a news release from Custer County Search and Rescue, after he went hiking in the Kit Carson Peak and Challenger Point area.

Wallick may be wearing a black or navy blue raincoat, a blue short-sleeved T-shirt, an orange long-sleeved shirt and olive green pants, according to the release.

Air Force lieutenant colonel missing after summiting 2 Colorado 14ers
[Lt. Col. Dan Wallick last contacted his family Wednesday afternoon after scaling Kit Carson Peak and Challenger Point. His family reported him missing Thursday after receiving no further word.

"He took the Willow Creek trail from the trailhead by Crestone. His father confirmed his car was located at the trailhead. He then went to Challenger where he summited at 11:00 and then to kit Carson at 12:12. His descent was back towards Challenger, but it is not known what he did from the saddle on the way down."]

7-28-19 MISSION UPDATE
The SAR operation continues today and remains ongoing for an overdue hiker reported to Saguache County on July 24th, 2019 in the Kit Carson Peak/Challenger Point area. Participating Search and Rescue agencies include Saguache County Search and Rescue, Baca Grande Volunteer Fire Department, Custer County Search and Rescue (CCSAR), Western Mountain Rescue Team, Fremont County Search and Rescue, Douglas County Search and Rescue, Alpine Rescue Team, USFS, Air Force Rescue Coordination Center (AFRCC), Colorado Search and Rescue Association (CSRA), leadership from his assigned command, as well as aerial assets from Flight for Life, Buckley Air Force Base Colorado Army National Guard (COANG), and Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (CO DFPC) aircraft. Additional SAR personnel are on standby.

Missing Air Force officer assigned to Colorado Springs base
An Air Force officer who has been missing since failing to return after scaling two high peaks Wednesday in the Sangre de Christo Mountains was stationed at Schriever Air Force Base, the military said Sunday.

Lt. Col. Dan Wallick, 41, of Salida had been at the secretive base east of Colorado Springs since June 10, working in integrated missile defense, according to an Air Force spokeswoman.

The search continued Sunday on the ground and from the air in the rugged high country north of Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.
