Witness in Norwood killings trial paints picture of a farm change

TIA! :)

:(

Young said he only spent a couple hours on Blair’s property that day, but he returned Labor Day, Sept. 4, 2017.

That time, everything was different. Young said the plants were dying and that Blair’s dog, Lion, which normally approached vehicles as they pulled in the drive, was nowhere to be seen. He said the farm appeared as if no one was there. When he called for Blair, he said he heard a single bark from Lion’s kennel, which was covered with a tarp.

---------------------------------------------------------

Fighting tears, Young described removing the tarp from the kennel and seeing a malnourished dog covered in its own feces and urine. He said Lion was “skin and bones.” He told prosecutors he took the dog out of the kennel and gave it water but had to take the water bowl away out of fear Lion would drink too much.

While tending to the dog, Blair approached Young, he testified, and told him to leave the property.

Young said he returned to Telluride and gathered three friends.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

When they got back to the property, Young said he put the dog in his vehicle and attempted to approach Blair, who sprinted at Young and two of his friends.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

He ushered them off the property, so Young said he took the dog first to the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office and then to the vet.

So - from the article - it doesn't mention jury selection? I guess they did that earlier? Wish there was more info on this case.

Thanks for the bits from the article MsFacetious - and I hate to ask - was there a first name for this Young guy?

TIA! :)

This article is from March 9, during ARCHER'S trial. Sorry I thought that was clear since I quoted you. It starts out with witness testimony that Friday.... but I wanted the dog part in here. I love that he stole the dog. I would have done the same thing.

The criminal case against Bramble has been brought by the people, represented by Chief Deputy District Attorney Seth Ryan and Deputy District Attorney Robert Whiting. Ryan said Monday that he plans to dismiss the fatal child abuse charges in Bramble’s case and will only prosecute the murder charges in the upcoming trial.

Montrose-based criminal defense attorney Harvey Palefsky and attorney Brandon Tryon of Grand Junction were appointed by the court to defend Bramble. The case is being heard by Montrose District Judge Keri Yoder, and was relocated to Montrose from its original location in Telluride.

On Monday, Palefsky told potential jurors he is not sure yet whether his client will testify at her trial. He emphasized to jurors that she has the right to remain silent if she chooses to do so. If she is found guilty, Bramble will not face the death penalty, Yoder said.
...
Opening statements from the defense and prosecution took place Tuesday morning, after which witness testimony and the presentation of evidence will get underway. The trial is scheduled to last three weeks, but Judge Yoder said Monday that it will probably only take about two weeks.

Tuesday, witnesses told of a strange scene, including puzzling “iconography” along trails lined with pennies, stacks of change at intersections, symbols drawn into the dirt and rocks stacked onto fence posts.

The first witness, Blair’s high school friend Adam Horn, testified that he visited the property with Blair’s father, Franklin Fletcher Sept. 8, 2017, because they were alarmed at the changes friends had been reporting in Blair since he invited Ceus’ band to live with him.
...
Makayla and Hannah had been reduced to bones held together by tight skin when he recovered their “almost completely mummified” bodies, San Miguel County Coroner Emil Sante testified. The death scene was “as deplorable as you can imagine,” he said.

Makayla was removed first. When jurors were shown the picture of her body in the car, Bramble began wiping at her eyes. Sante continued his testimony and then came the picture of Hannah, her pink clothing still visible.
...
Tuesday, construction company owner Calum McNeil, who worked on Blair’s property and had briefly lived with him elsewhere, testified he had only known of three children being on the property, not four.
...
Tuesday, San Miguel Sheriff’s Investigator Dan Covault testified he had often visited Blair’s property to conduct marijuana compliance checks and had a standing invitation to visit from an open and friendly Blair.

Murder trial opens in Norwood girls’ deaths

Long, comprehensive article worth reading. Covault's testimony continues today.

Another long article, more at the link. Be prepared to be sad and mad.

Covault also testified at length concerning food: Although group members other than Ceus, her children and Archer were gaunt and extremely hungry when authorities encountered them, at least four people on premises were in the middle of eating beans, and there were dried foodstuffs, such as rice, on the property.

In the car where the children died, however, there was only trash from empty food tins and other debris about 6 inches deep on the floorboards; the dark pockets shown in photos were insects, Covault said. Food did not appear to have been made available to the girls, he said through testimony.
...
Eden’s daughter, Hannah Sutherland, testified that her mother fell under Ceus or Archer’s sway, burning photos and documents in a seemingly fearful manner, before taking her, her brother Cory Sutherland (who predated Blair as “Ra”) and friends Cassandra McCarroll and Maria Ramirez to North Carolina to mediate in preparation for the end of the world — foretold for March 20, 2014.

Although Archer had prophesied they would prepare on a “mountain,” when they arrived, he told them the apartment was the mountain, McCarroll testified.

Both women told of being instructed to shave all their hair and take a ritualistic cleansing bath. They surrendered their worldly clothing for garb Ceus had made them.
...
Makayla’s father Chris Roberts testified Wednesday that the last time he saw his daughter, she was in good health, not suffering from any known medical defect and to his knowledge, neither was Hannah.

Did that make sense? I'm so tired. 3 kids down and now a horse. But, if this worked that is amazing!
