I wonder if Mr. Newcomb is a possibility based on his details:

Carl Wilbur Newcomb
Male, 79 y/o, 5'10", last contact: November 14th, 2017 in Peyton, Colorado
Circumstances:

Carl is known to travel 200-400 miles per day. He enjoyed driving all over the State of Colorado and re-visiting sites that were important to he and his wife prior to her passing. He preferred back roads to major thoroughfares. He was last seen on the evening of November 14, 2017 at his residence which he shares with his adult son. He is hard of hearing and therefore did not regularly charge his cell phone which has been turned off since before the last time he was seen by his family. His vehicle is not equipped with any tracking devices.

----

Per this article (Falcon-area man's disappearance among growing number of Senior Alerts), his family does not know where he went and doesn't know where to look. His Dodge Caravan could travel about 500 miles on a full tank before needing gas. His phone pinged in Elizabeth, Colorado the day before his disappearance. His son stated that Mr. Newcomb used to live in Canon City and liked to drive south from Peyton and loop back around, he also hated populated areas and highways (like I25) and preferred back roads.

There are several backroads to get from Mr. Newcomb's last location to Paonia, each around 290-320 miles which is within his typical daily mileage range.

His son stated he usually drove south towards Canon City, where he previously lived, but his cell phone last pinged north. Since he preferred to not use I25 or other highways. The above map shows how to get from Elizabeth to Paonia on I70. Assuming Mr. Newcomb would not use the main highway, there is a route that avoids highways where he could leave Elizabeth, swing by Canon City, and arrive in Paonia for a total of 329 miles.

I wish Mr. Newcombs family would specify exactly where he would travel, albeit it sounds like he was very independent and didn't communicate much.

Good job looking out for Mr. Newcomb. JD's NamUs profile doesn't show any exclusions. Height in within the estimated parameters for JD. Carl's age is 6 years over the upper limits estimated, but age estimates are often inaccurate. You really should submit him for comparison, imo.

Thank you!

I have never submitted one before. I am registered on NamUs. and see the Contacts tab, which has the regional contact for NamUs. Do I send that person an email?

Yes, the NamUs rep is usually a good starting point. Many people will also call or send emails to the medical examiner and/or the investigating law enforcement agencies. Do whatever you feel comfortable doing. Good luck with the match!

“People hunting for shed horns to collect came upon a human skull near Paonia on April 23, Delta County Sheriff Mark Taylor confirmed Friday.
A subsequent search of the area off Lone Cabin Road yielded a few more bones and a scrap of cloth, possibly a T-shirt, that investigators have not at present solidly linked to the remains.
The person’s sex and age have not been determined and there is not yet an estimate as to how long the bones might have been on the hillside where they were found. Taylor said the skull bore no readily apparent signs of trauma. Officials cannot at this time conclusively say whether foul play was involved.

“It is suspicious in nature, but we just don’t know any of the circumstances surrounding the site,” Taylor said.
“We’re hopeful that, through the pathologist and other professionals, that they may be able to give us a little more information as to whether the person was male or female, the age, and how long the bones may have been out there.
“We’re certainly looking for any information from surrounding counties that may have missing persons cases.”

He said the bones and their location do not appear to match information from known missing persons cases in Delta County.
The discovery was reported to the DCSO the afternoon of April 23. Deputies and investigators confirmed the skull, which was in plain sight on a hillside, was human. Taylor requested assistance from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, because of that agency’s resources, which for this case, has included drone-based mapping of the discovery site.
“We haven’t had any solid information at this point, but as of today, we had a fairly large-scale search in the area for any more remaining bones or evidence around the scene,” Taylor said.
He said the hillside is accessible, but not readily so from the immediate area of where the skull was located.
“It’s unknown at this time if animals had moved any part, or been involved in the scattering of the bones. We just don’t know at this point. We’re trying to piece all that together,” Taylor said.
Anyone with information about the bones can call DCSO dispatch at 970-874-2015.”
