Aurora police are searching for an at-risk man who is missing after spending the weekend in Lafayette.

Police said they are searching for a 32-year-old man named Richard. His last name was not available.

Richard is confined to a battery-operated wheelchair. Police said he may not be able to charge the wheelchair or communicate effectively because of his physical limitations.

Police ask that you call 911 if you see Richard.

Uh what? How did he get to Lafayette? It says he uses wheelchair, did he own a car? Was he driven there? Who was he visiting? There isn't a lot in Lafayette that isn't also in Aurora, so either he went there for work or to see a person.

Pretty short on info, makes you wonder ... Not good feeling .Prayers for Richard to be located soon !

There is a little more info in the comments, no last name but maybe a place of work. Still can't think of an event where his company would have been needed in Lafayette...

Just a guess but he could have easily gotten to/from Lafayette on access-a-ride.

True, but it just seems like there is so much info missing. They know he went to Lafayette but no more info?

Police say he used RTD to travel to Lafayette.

“Richard was away visiting a friend in Lafayette over the weekend and expected to return home last night at midnight,” police said on Monday. “Now attempts to reach him have been unsuccessful as he has not yet returned home.”

I sure hope they have checked all hospitals in the area. There was a non-verbal, wheelchair bound woman missing and she was found in hospital as a Jane Doe.

Access-a-ride is under the RTD umbrella (RTD just refers to the general public transit system in the Denver metro area). So it seems he either used public transportation or access-a-ride, but those possibilities suggest two quite different scenarios.

If he used access-a-ride, there would probably be logs of exactly where he was picked up/dropped off, and would increase the likelihood that something happened after he arrived at his destination.

If he used public transportation, it makes it more likely that he never reached his destination, either en route to wherever in Lafayette or coming back to Aurora.

Gut feeling is it was the former.

The article says he went missing after visiting Lafayette so I assume he went missing somewhere between Lafayette and (returning to) Aurora.

I'm not making that assumption only because nothing I've seen states outright that he was actually known to have left Lafayette (or necessarily even arrived there, although this, to me, is much less likely).

Although that would be a pretty rough public transit trip in the middle of the night. Lafayette and Aurora are not close to one another and getting from one to the other would require at minimum one transfer, depending on where in each burb the destinations were. I could very easily see something going wrong in transit.

Lafayette is an extremely safe area, but Aurora is not necessarily, depending on where in Aurora he was going--it looks like a common transfer point is near Colfax and 225, which is one of the sketchier parts of Aurora.

ETA: It looks like the place he would for sure have to transfer is in Broomfield, just down the road from Lafayette, but I think it's likely he would have to either transfer a second time or get a ride upon arriving in Aurora.

I'd think you could ride out to the Park & Ride on I-25 (Thornton area), and then there would be a direct bus to Aurora from there? I haven't looked at any RTD maps but most in the area will drop in Thornton off of I-25. Lafayette is smaller, but the buses all run through there

I'm playing around with the maps a little and I can't find a direct bus route for either Lafayette to Thornton or Thornton to Aurora, but that obviously doesn't mean such a route doesn't exist.

What you're suggesting definitely seems logical, I just can't figure out how it would work without transfers on both portions of the route.
