Very good question. And who was he hanging out with? What was his usual routine? Going back to the beginning is a good start and hopefully someone is taking a fresh look at the case.Sometimes when cases get stuck, investigators go back to the beginning. What if what JP is saying about Roger just leaving has some merit? Could a 17 year old just completely leave his life behind and begin a new life? Obviously Roger was bothered by something that had likely been stewing for a while. It came to a head on the morning he vanished, Tuesday February 10, 1981. My question is why is there no mention anywhere about what events may have happened at school on Monday February 9 ? Earlier I believed the date he went missing was the 9th, and that has always seemed more logical, owing to the fact that there is so little information about interactions at school. It seemed to me that if Roger did indeed go missing on the 10th, due to something that came to a head at school on the 9th, wouldn’t he just stay away from school IE call in sick, or consult his parents? Apparently he chose to do neither, and that’s what we are left with. So that again brings us back to the beginning. What was he bothered by? Was he depressed to the point of walking away? Were there drugs involved? Or did he have knowledge of something bad happening to some of his classmates, specifically maybe female classmates? Did he witness something bad happening directly? The reports we have say Roger was acting funny for around a month prior. This could even place some type of event happening during the Christmas break, and away from school if we use this time line. So now let’s brainstorm storm everyone, and try to figure out what happened.
I would love to consider your findings. I appreciate everyone here who has invested time and resources into Roger’s case.I did a deep dive on this case in the summer using the assistance of AI. I can post some of my findings. One big key takeaway was Telluride, where Roger had recently gone to.
There was ongoing corruption at the time and the ski circles in 1980s Telluride were filled with cocaine. I found newspaper articles detailing murders of other young men involved in trafficking, along with other questionable happenstances.
All that aside, another theory I investigated was JP being involved but having help.
Great insight. I also believe Roger had witnessed something, or had direct knowledge of sketchy activities. Maybe a case of wrong place wrong time. I was looking on the web, and there was a drug bust in Telluride in May of 1981, but this of course is after Roger disappeared.I've thought something came to a head at the ski event as well. I don't know that a 17 yr old would be offed re a Jr Olympics slot, but you never know. As for cocaine as a performance-enhancing drug, as well as very popular anyway at the time, Roger may have been privy to officials, coaches, etc. doling it out or worse, witnessed another person being threatened about what he/she knew.
As for Pash, I'm sensing more of a "the teacher that smokes weed with his students" vibe. And being the wrestling (I think?) coach, he'd likely catch wind of any coke via your own athletic dept shenanigans. He'd then be cagey afterwards and potentially steer the spotlight towards suicide rather than doping students. To get Roger actually killed, he either planned to blow the whistle, or someone thought he was likely to sing. My sense is Roger was aware of something that had a far-reaching take down of multiple high-raking (or at least highly thought of) people. It's possible Roger was a user and owed money, but I don't make the leap to murder. If he was also distributing, maybe.
With all of these theories it's also entirely possible he was only to be threatened and roughed up a bit. Someone/s may have taken the assignment too far, reached the point of no return and killed him.
