was it 20 years or more? I'm seeing conflicting info

I don't think it was ever said. I hope her reduced sentence recommendation is more than whatever the plea deal was. His counter offer for the plea of nothing more than a ticket is outrageous. IMO, he's a cocky jerk.

I didn't realize he proposed only a ticket and I agree that's ridiculous. I wonder how much his lawyers influenced that suggestion. I get the opposite vibe from him though.

The guy didn't try to help the victims and didn't inquire about their injuries. Once he realized he was in trouble he turned on the waterworks. All for himself IMO.

probably in shock - we all think we would be heroes in this type of situation but we can't know how we would react until it happens

Counting "Signatures" on change.org
.... no you cannot sign more than once using the same email address
@LadyL sbm Thanks for your response. Could you pls provide a link to the change.org website, showing that their signature counting system identifies & excludes multiple "signatures" originating from a unique identifier? Anyone?

I understand technology is available to do this but wonder if change.com actually uses it & excludes the duplicates.

"If change.org website explains how they count signatures on a petition, I missed it.
Using only one email address, can I "sign" a petition 10, 100, or 1000 times? Or does the co. have a method for identifying and excluding multiple "signatures" originating from a unique identifier?
Anyone? TiA."

I don't consider asking about people being a hero.

I just checked and they can see my (almost) exact location.
That's one way to check for multiple logins, but I guess they use other methods too.
The site has been around for a long time and they have probably been scrutinized to death for years for how their signature system works.
Wish they would say it on the website though, I found nothing.
But I put my signature there for this guy, 110 years for an accident, are you joking??
imo, jmo, etc.

I don't know why people are so outraged at the sentence. This man was supposedly a "professional driver" with a CDL license, driving a semi. That carries a lot of weight and additional responsibility to be aware of changing road conditions, traffic patterns, and his equipment.

He was driving too fast for the conditions. If he had an equipment failure, there are options for "runaway trucks". He killed people with his recklessness. What sort of sentence do people think he should have received?

They are outraged because they are believing the hype. The trial wasn't widely streamed (if at all) and there is no source to watch the replay. You have to dig deep to get any info about what really happened and SM is putting out it's usual lies and half truths about what really happened.

You can tell by the victim impact statements and other statements they've made that they are disgusted with the narrative that is being spun.

Some of the victim impact statements are here

@Gardenista the defendant sits there, with his mask under his chin. As if this entire situation has nothing to do with him.

It was heartwrenching to hear these victim statements. Their lives have been absolutely shattered. After listening to this, 110 years is just a starting point.

Yeah, him sobbing his eyes out while his family was talking about him and he could barely squeeze out a tear for the victims. And when his brother or whoever it was yelled "objection!" in the middle of one of the victim impact statements, I was flabbergasted.

Then he had the nerve to stand up there for almost 20 minutes and talk about himself--how great he is and how this wasn't his fault. He spoke way longer than any of the VICTIMS spoke. He is the worst kind of person. The entitlement is nauseating.

Thinking of those who were injured and RIP to:
William Bailey
Doyle Harrison
Stanley Politano
Miguel Angel Lamas Arellano

I remember when this happened, and I jumped on Twitter and saw at least two posts that had video of this guy and his truck ZOOMING past the others on the Freeway just prior to the crash. The pure terror and disbelief of the drivers that were filming was heard. This guy was a BULLY with a semi. He deserves all 110 years, IMO

He'll end up doing 15 years max. Which isn't enough but I'm sure his fan club will talk about how unfair it is because it was an accident. No, it was not an accident. It was a crash caused by his negligence and poor decisions.

The brakes were already smoking in that video. His brakes didn't fail he fried them. I bet he wasn't in a lower gear.

What do you mean he "fried" his brakes? Are you saying he ruined his brakes on purpose? Or is it an accident?

It was not an accident. Witnesses testified he was driving like a maniac in the mountains before he burned his breaks out. The expert testified that his brakes were glazed which is caused by riding them. When they get glazed, they don't work anymore.

The only safe way to descend the I-70 grade in a heavy truck is to slow down and use the gears to control speed instead of the brakes. Properly trained drivers understand that on a grade like this starting down at higher speeds is likely to result in brake failure. The warning signs on the highway are there to reinforce this message.

The I-70 grade is steep and goes on for miles. Even if the truck brakes are good they can be destroyed before you get down if you don’t follow the rules.

@Footwarrior do you think it was a lack of training? Or just an arrogance, thinking he could drive as fast as he wanted in this area? My son got his CDL last year, and has spent his entire life driving roads in the Intermountain west. He has passed many trucks that went off the road, driving too fast around curves, not understanding grades. That has probably served him well now.

change.org Petition?

MSM reports crash was April 25, 2019, so even w my flimsy math skills = ~ 2 yrs. 8 mo. ago.
Website shows petition was started "three years ago."*

Is Heather G. a clairvoyant, starting petition before the crash?
Or does this say something about how change.com is administered/programmed?
