Plus it’s probable that some “red flag” behavior had already taken place which SW told NU, so the second NU could not get her friend on the phone, she knew she better make sure she was okay. I have been afraid for friends in the past, based on things they had told me, if they did not return a text within a reasonable timeframe.

There's a reason NU was all over it. She didn't mess around. IMO she was already on alert .

Hard to imagine there could be actual happiness with a cheating husband whether she knew it or not. Financial issues once again on the horizon ( HOA fee not paid).

And of course, a husband who happily killed her and the children.

No way could a monstrous person completely hide his evil.

The proof is in the pudding.

I completely understand what you're saying & it makes complete sense. But, as many professional & intelligent posters here have said - people like CW are great at mimicking. Some of them can do it for years on end.

Did Shanann ever see beyond CW's mask? Probably not until it was too late. We might not ever know. I believe Shanann had just started to notice something was 'off' with her husband. It can happen that way. You're going along the highway in your reliable car and 'BOOM'!! you have a blow out, someone sideswips you, or head on collisions. "Well, they never did take care of that car!" or "They should've taken that car for a tune up & that wouldn't have happened!!"

Did that make any sense? Jeez! I beat my head when I read posters that are succinct! For real!!

Totally agree. Something was shared by SW; feelings, incidents, whatever...that put NU on alert.

I would like to know what reason he gave LE for the sheets being in the kitchen trash? IMO SW came home with a suspicion he had been wandering, then found evidence on the sheets that AP had been there and that's when it all kicked off. No way was she lying on those sheets, in fact she wasn't even going to launder them- they were OUT.

And that is the question that I think all of us want to badly to understand, because we don't like to think that good, loving fathers can just snap and kill their families. We need to believe that there is order in the world.

Snipped.

I don't think he snapped. I think it was a smoldering rage, fed by outside sexual interests and financial issues.

The man wanted out, but for whatever reason couldn't publicly face a failed marriage so he set himself up to look like a victim: "Not my fault the marriage ended, she disappeared with the kids."

jmo, subject to chage

Yes, then went out and slept on the loft sofa.

RSBM BBM

I actually don't think his words and actions are contradictory.

His basic message throughout all of his media interviews is that his wife and kids are gone and he has no idea where they are. That's his story and he sticks to it consistently.

His actions are that he killed them and tried to hide their bodies where no one would find them. He didn't kill them in his house and then leave the bodies there, which is something some family killers do.

His actions (killing/hiding) and his story (they are gone and he doesn't know where they are) are consistent, and they reflect his motivation - get rid of his family so he can have a new life for himself.

Just my theory.
I think his words and actions in Shanann’s photos and videos are contradictory, meaning there’s a guy standing there spouting all kinds of enthusiastic words whose voice tone and body language say he’d rather be anywhere else but there.

What I hear from what he said:
We talked at 5 am, then later it was 4 am.
I don’t know where they are, we loved each other, but we had an emotional conversation, I won’t go into it.
She went to a friends house but I don’t know who it is
This has been going on for the last few days.
I wasn’t having an affair, I am having an affair

He buried Shanann in a shallow grave and left a sheet behind that matched the set he threw in the kitchen garbage in his house.

I can’t agree with you on he wanted a new life for himself. Look where he ended up! There’s a huge possibility he just lost it in the moment without giving any thought to the consequences or what the next chapter of his life would be,

I wanted to bump @gitana1's most excellent post that summarizes with citations all of the evidence that tends to prove CW's guilt in this case, together with the evidence that tends to disprove CW's own "confession."

We only have a small portion of the details in this case, but as gitana1 has pointed out, what we do know is damning against CW. We can feel pretty confident that we know the Who and the What.

The only question that remains in order to form a strong Theory of the Case is the Why. And that is the question that I think all of us want to badly to understand, because we don't like to think that good, loving fathers can just snap and kill their families. We need to believe that there is order in the world.

Thank you, gitana.

In my mind, the 'why' is fairly simple. His motive is very basic, selfish and greedy. He did not want to be responsible for his family anymore. He did not want to be married but did not want to be stuck with child support and custody issues after the fact.

He wanted to be free from the burdens of family life. And now he is on lockdown.

My guess is is he lied and told them Shanann put them there.

According to Shanann Watts' obituary in the Sandhills Sentinel, the funeral Mass is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, September 1 at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Pinehurst.

The service will be live streamed on the Boles Funeral Homes and Crematory's Facebook page.

Thank you for posting that. I remember that SW was Roman Catholic. Do we know what CW's faith background was?

Interestingly, I didn't see any crucifixes on the walls of the Watts home (ETA: I'm not Catholic, but that's a 'thing', right?), and while she talked about being "blessed," I never heard her say or post anything that was overtly religious. Did any of you? There aren't any pictures of church activities, as I recall.

I'm not suggesting this means anything one way or the other. Maybe it seems odd to me because the last murder I was so wrapped up in was the Missy Bevers case, that occurred in a church. Speaking of Theories of the Case, that one is so perplexing because we don't know the Who or the Why.

I am also very interested in the logistics of the burials. The more I think about it, the less it seems something that could be done quickly and/or in a panic like he claims.

jmo

Just the climb alone rules out panic for me.

Ever since I saw the picture of the tanks, I've been haunted by the idea of climbing all of those stairs.

Twice.

Carrying your babies.

There are so many things about this case that I struggle with, but the amount of time it had to take for him to climb those stairs takes the cake... it makes me nauseous to think about it.

This and he had a small taste of what it is like to be a single parent with kids and didn't like it much.

The MB case is what brought me to WS.

I agree the proof is in the pudding that this guy is a monster. In terms of a monstrous person being able to completely hide their evil, there are many cases where a victim spouse had no clue they were married to a monster who was capable of murdering them and/or their children.

Was the monster "that" good in being able to hide their secret life and that they weren't at all who they had pretended to be? Scott Peterson, Neil Entwhistle and Charles Stuart come to mind, but there are others who not only fooled their spouses, but also fooled their spouses family and friends.

Hindsight is 20/20. JMO.

That's as good a theory as any.

Again, nothing wrong with that theory, either.

AB played a clip of Bella and CW reciting grace, word for word, while the family sat around the table before dinner, so the concept of God was present in their house.

Had CW told NU, when she called him, that he will be right over, NU wouldn't have called LE, I believe. Instead he told her some improbable story that NU knew wasn't true.

So Bravo to NU and CW, both. He practically invited LE to his house that day and immediately bacame the prime suspect. This only about 8 hours after he ditched the bodies.
