Ok, then in addition to this: As stated on SW social media, she announces that CW wants another child or they are trying to get pregnant(link?) Even with her open-book policy on social media, this seems like a highly private/TMI piece of information for a woman to share publicly, especially when she would be considered a high risk pregnancy. And supposedly, she magically conceives days later? (One of our WS members did the math.) I’ve questioned SW finding out the gender pre-15 weeks which is usually too early for sonograms. (Do you know if she had an amniocentesis?) Is it possible she was already pregnant when she publicly announced they were “trying” again? If so, that leads to another can of worms.
How would any of the above tend to make you think she killed her little girls, if that is what you are saying? On the one hand you say the pregnancy info is TMI and should be kept private, not shared on SM, then after that you say it would be a "can of worms" if she was already pregnant before going on SM. Seems like a contradictory criticism of her.

1.Defense has been filing motions with the court that require responses from DA. What will his defense be?
2. DA wants DNA swabs, photos, prints. Why they didn’t do that on the first day? Don’t know.
3. Defense complained DA was leaking information, DA responded that they didn’t. Defense is trying to shift the blame off of C.W.
4. Why does DA want all those prints and photos? DA is trying to cover all bases.
5. Defense wants to videotape everything.

SBM.
Thank you for posting this summary! It sounds to me like the defense is sending a message to the prosecutor of how hard they will fight, especially if it is a death penalty case. They want the prosecutor to offer a plea for life w/o parole. MOO.

6. DA’s defense of huge media interest is they blame it all on C.W. for going to the press in the first place, pleading with the public to help.

SBM.
Well......who issued the press release that caused the media to show up that day? The detective! And I wouldn't be surprised if the police encouraged CW to speak to the press to plead for his family's return.

ETA I'm wondering if the mode of conception was traditional...
That thought briefly flitted through my little brain too! :)

ITA. I think the reason the DA has asked for finger and palm prints is to compare them to bruises photographed at autopsy. JMO
That’s definitely possible. Also they’d search for fingerprints on the shovel, tanks, and likely numerous other places. They’d need something to compare them to. Yes, he’s confessed, but you still want all that evidence in case he recants.

@Trinket78

I cannot imagine what you are experiencing, traumatic at best. :-(

Not sure if anyone has asked this already, and not sure you can, or want to answer...

Do you believe CW had same-sex affairs?

  • #728
Disagree. I have a friend who this happened to and I believe someone on this thread said it happened to her.
I’m sure this has happened before, that someone wanted a child, met someone then had an affair, but let me clarify: VI opionion surmises that CW was likely not wanting another child before SW got pregnant and his actions/behavior after the pregnancy announcement support this as well. His AP was not a new person who he had a spontaneous “I didn’t mean for it to happen” sort of affair. It seems probable that CW didn’t want another child and he was actively engaged in, or planting the seeds for an affair at the time of conception.

I dont think that would be the correct forum for strategy - you need to be able to think outside the box

Yes, I agree. Separate forums might be too limiting and restrictive for true brainstorming purposes.

You can get a blood test that determines gender very early. If she was going to be 35 by delivery they offer it and with her health issues they probably offered it as well. I saw a SM post of hers that she actually asked others if they took one of those gender tests from amazon so maybe she ended up doing that. I also got an elective ultrasound at 14 weeks because I was impatient and wanted to know gender. It was like $50. So I would say there are multiple ways to determine gender by 15 weeks.

One thing I’ve wondered: If Shanann has so many health issues, and children with heath issues, numerous debt/money problems and a tense marriage, why would either of them think it wise to have another child at that time? After what we’ve learned about their family situation, I find it highly unbeleiveable that Chris was begging for another child. Especially if he was already engaged in an affair or at the very least, weeks away from starting one. A man doesn’t go from wanting a child with his wife to committing adultery in the span of a few months. Do you believe it’s possible that Shannan felt the marriage slipping away and got pregnant on purpose to “keep” him? This scenario would put a lot of the peices of the puzzle together.
And especially since he made that statement years earlier about his not believing having a child will strengthen a relationship! ( during presentation at community college)

Planting seeds. Snort. :)

I didn’t see the video of her announcing they were trying. I think it may have been a sonogram.

@Tippy Lynn @MerryB I wholeheartedly agree! IMO it takes a lot of courage to admit a connection, even under anonymity, with C.W.
Calling @Trinket78 biased is totally unnecessary, I get maybe further questioning an answer that was given, but definitely not ok in a condescending, accusatory manner, I thought I read that in the rules somewhere, anyway. MOO

You are correct, it is in the TOS as well as Tricia’s note introducing @Trinket78
A good number of posts were modded last night.

just on Layla's no 2 "DA wants DNA swabs, photos, prints. Why they didn’t do that on the first day?"
Am I right in recalling that Def asked to be present with the ME for the autopsy and asked for that material some time ago, but were denied attendance ?

Even the guy in the article didn't believe Chris. "Bolte indicated that he trusts very little of what Chris Watts told him"

:-) I don't believe CW either, but also don't believe TB.

what about performance wise? do PD's tend to be as flamboyant in their defence as private attorneys? I'm thinking OJ and CA cases here? Do you think the defenses of either of these cases would have been different if handled by a PD? Thanks!

No, IMO, I don't think PD's would get as "creative" as private attorneys.

I'm not a big court-watcher, but one thing to keep in mind that the OJ case was a Hollywood case, with a Hollywood defendant, and Hollywood lawyers. (And a weak judge, btw.) I wouldn't use that case as an example of real life.

Other court-watchers, feel free to give us your opinions.

Man who claims affair with accused family killer Chris Watts says Colorado dad gave him money, claimed pregnant wife Shanann Watts was ‘abusive’: EXCLUSIVE

I still have a tough time believing this guy is for real. You'd think that if he did talk to the FBI, etc. they would have told him to shut up.
They likely would have told him to shut it, but he wouldn’t have to listen.

This guy telling the truth is a big “maybe” for me. I’m more focused on what we know to be true, as affairs do not necessarily make a murder out of someone, but the rest of the picture certainly causes me to lean in that direction.

I have a question for any of the legal eagles. Does CW's confession cause a problem for his attorneys? I'm assuming, from all that I've read, that he wasn't represented when he made the confession. He only spoke with his Dad and his Dad is not an attorney. So, does the confession cause a problem and, if so, how much? Thanks.
