Are CW's parents considered victims or did I miss something? No snark intended this is an honest question.

In their own minds, 100%.

I know what you meant. I just couldn't help it. I'm still so sick and disgusted. I hope that a lot of info comes out on the 19th, and that Rourke and the DA's office is spurred on to make it clear in no uncertain terms that he is guilty as sin.

SW's parents though... class in the face of heartache after heartache.

Reminds me of "When they go low, we go high."

It's clear who both Chris and Shanann were. True reflections of each of their parents.

I don’t think anyone is judging the support but the manner in which they are choosing to express that support. They are victims and they are in pain. I hope they get guidance on a better way to express themselves - “We love our son, everyone who knew him said he was a good father, we have not viewed any evidence or proof that he killed his children, we are searching for the truth.” Simple, without blame and have an awareness to not pour salt into the wound of the other family also in pain. Edited to add the way Mrs W is behaving is not doing her son any favors.
I agree with this. I think its lack of support and desperation and its not helping anyone.....

They might deserve compassion, but it would be so much more tasteful if their statements did not include trashing Shanann. Their son killed her, is that not enough that they have to slander her to excuse his actions? Shameful IMO.

I don't like hearing the negative comments towards SW either. However, people tend to behave oddly and out of character when they are backed into a corner or in stressful situations. CW is responsible, not his mom or anybody else and that's where I'm leaving it.

I don't believe anyone is judging his parents for the support they are giving their son. just the way they are doing it. They have attacked a dead woman and blamed her. They have insinuated that CW has been mislead and manipulated. They have been vicious. As others here have said; the comparison between CW's family's interviews and SW's family's response is night and day. One response is petty and selfish, the other noble. Yes, both families have suffered and will suffer the rest of their lives, but how they deal with the suffering speaks volumes.
I admire and respect the way SW’s family have handled themselves. It would be so understandable for them to be angry and hateful due to their emotions, but from the start, they’ve showed such strength and compassion for CW’s family. It’s obvious where SW got her kind heartedness and gentle demeanor. It’s awful they get this reaction in return.

I'll just leave this here. No words.

"Cindy Watts said she knows her son should spend a long time in prison for killing his wife, but she claims he was stuck in a verbally abusive relationship."
This almost made me laugh. I've been in verbally abusive relationships before and not once did I feel I was "stuck" in it and couldn't leave if I chose. There wasnt that same fear as would accompany a physically abusive relationship. She makes him sound like a wuss.

Chris Watts pleaded guilty to murdering his wife and daughters — but his parents say he's 'not a monster' - NY Daily News
The parents of a 33-year-old Colorado man who pleaded guilty to murdering his family insist he’s ‘not a monster.”

Chris Watts admitted in court last week to killing his 34-year-old pregnant wife Shanann and two daughters, 3-year-old Celeste and 4-year-old Bella, so he could avoid the death penalty — but his parents seem unswayed by their son’s evil acts.

Ronnie Watts said he finds it difficult to believe his son would hurt his daughters, while Cindy wants him to “fight” — hoping others may step up to defend her son.

I just need to add my thoughts before I go to work. I understand defending your child. But when children are thrown into the mix, that changes everything. I feel it in CW parent's shoes my only defense would be toward the grandkids. Why didn't my son call 911, the neighbors, anyone?? I'm sorry but at that point my adult child is on their own.

Eventually, and possibly as soon as Nov. 19th and 20th, CW's family will have to confront some very revealing and unsettling facts and evidence. I believe the autopsy reports and other evidence released by the prosecution will show CW was the murderer of all four pf his family, it will show the brutality of the murders, the premeditation that took place before the murders, and the reality of who and what CW was when he committed the murders. It will be released and it will reveal the truth.

Hopefully the evidence the state has will put this argument to rest, once and for all.

They had no bargaining power to get him to plead guilty so fast, if they don't have the evidence.

I'm still confused, Ronnie Watts says that Chris was crying and upset "THAT NIGHT": "The story he told me that night, I believed it: The way he looked at me, the way he was crying, I believed it,” Ronnie recounted.

So what story did CW tell RW on the way back from the airport?

It seems like they sure pick and choose amongst all the "truths" CW has shoveled out.

Well, lets look at it from their point of view - the last time Cw's father saw him was before his arrest, when Chris told his father 'what had happened'. His father believed him. The next thing his parents know, Chris is going to plead guilty to ALL murders. They are not allowed to discuss this with him, so they can't test their understanding. They have no information at all, whereas I believe that Shan'anns family do know a little more.

I think Chris's parents are desperate for information. When this is available to them, I would hope it makes things clearer for them. I am surprised that the PD team hasn't counselled them as to the reasoning behind the plea, but perhaps they have good reason not to.
There is no way they could control his mother, trust her to keep information in confidence.

In almost every society and culture, parents view their children, in some respects, as a reflection of themselves. They’re a biological, social and moral reflection. Children can make their parents proud or bring shame upon their family. Some parents have so much narcissistic investment in their children that even when those children are convicted of the most horrific crimes – such as killing their spouses – they still defend them, e.g. Scott Peterson’s and Neil Entwistle’s parents. They continued to claim that their sons are innocent even when it was proven beyond reasonable doubt in court that they were guilty of murdering their wives and babies. In these sort of cases, the parents are either disordered or blind. They refuse to see their sons as anything but the perfect beings they want them to be.

This type of parents need to preserve their image as perfect parents who instilled the right values in their children. They’re willing to sacrifice their moral values to preserve an idealized image of their children.

I just hope and pray that there are no ugly scenes at the sentencing. Let Shan'ann's family process their pain without adding to it.

Agree. Denial is a stage of grief after all. I can't imagine finding out your son killed his whole family.

And yet, SW's family have not behaved oddly or out of character. Instead they have behaved with dignity and class and they have been in as much or more in a stressful situation and in a corner, as the Watts family. The Watts family IS responsible for what they say and do, like attacking a murdered woman. IMO.

But not so "stuck" that he couldn't have an affair with a co-worker.

I have noticed an infantilization of CW by his family. He “was stuck”, he “was changed by Shan’ann”, they refer to him as “a kid”. He’s their kid, but he is no longer a kid at age 33.

I do think they have been and continue to be manipulated by their son’s lies, much like Cindy Anthony was manipulated by Casey’s lies. CW is victimizing his parents, but they are unable to see it.

A parent’s love for their child should be unconditional, but it should not require revictimizing a dead victim who cannot defend herself. She was a member of their family, too, if only for a few years. I hope they will get a lot of therapy. They need it badly.

If CW's mother is not able to get alternate defense counsel for him before 19 November and achieve some way to delay the whole thing, I suspect SHE will be making the ugly scene at the sentencing.
