More from the Watts' original interview.

>"Do you worry about the backlash of a woman not here to defend herself?"

>"Shanann was...you'd have to get to know her to be around her, put it that way".

This comes from the dad, so he isn’t any better than the mom
Thank you for posting. Just crazy. The mom just does not want him in prison. She doesn't want him to take a plea because it means life in prison. I'm curious as to what "defense" she thinks they can put on. It doesn't sound like he has much of a defense. If he had even an adequate defense, CW could have taken it to trial! His defense team must have spelled out enough reality to him that he opted to take a plea deal. The mother has not been privy to any of this! It's like she wants to fight for the sake of fighting because she doesn't like reality, but doesn't care anything about the vile crimes her son committed. She just wants to go talk to the principal and make it all go away. She seems like a nightmare. And she just doesn't get it. I don't care if Shanann was in fact the most verbally abusive wife and total witch of a daughter-in-law (which I highly doubt). You don't get to murder someone for that! His parents sound terrible bashing the victim.

It does remind me of Meghan Markle's family. At first you think, oh they are just out of their element and don't quite know how to behave. It's too bad she doesn't talk to her family. Then they keep talking and talking and show the absurdity and then it's like and.....now I clearly see why she keeps these terrible people far away from her!

You know all the responsibility for these heinous murders has to rest squarely on CW’s shoulders. But I have to wonder what effect his mother and sister’s dehumanizing comments about SW for years contributed to CW’s ultimately expendable view of SW and his girls with her. They didn’t even attend his own wedding to SW over their hatred of her. Normally, I would not even make this observation, but since his parents think it is fine to point out how everything is SW’s fault and their child was perfect before she came along, I am motivated to put it out there that they may have contributed to their son’s ultimate hatred of and expendable view of SW and what he might have seen as extensions of her, their girls. Just IMO.
Yes.

His parents didn't attend the funeral for their granddaughters, either, IIRC. I don't know how a loving grandparent stays away from that. I wonder if they've even visited the girls' graves.

I always thought maybe they didn’t come out of respect since their son did this and they didn’t want to cause a possible scene, even though I think SW family would have been gracious. However, now I’m definitely rethinking the reason they didn’t come.

Yeah, it's hard to say how he'll do. Some people say the general belief that baby killers have a target on their backs is overstated. I think if he finds a protector/friend in prison, he'll actually do fine. Maybe he'll find a fellow Tarheels fan or Steelers fan to buddy up with. There will be other baby killers in the prison, too, so he can bond with them.
I think that threat is very overstated too. Didn't seem to do Susan Smith much harm, or Casey Anthony in the 3 years she was there.

Welcome TwoofOne! Someone suggested this earlier also. What if they were put in the tanks alive, and drowned? What a horrifying thought.

It’s hard not to wonder if there’s something damning like that in the autopsy reports, given the defense was trying for a plea deal right after they received them
I absolutely believe they were dead when they were put in those tanks, not because he isn’t evil enough to have done that, but because it would be so impractical.

That would have been extraordinary difficult a task, not to mention incredibly risky.

He wanted his family to disappear, and this wasn’t about the pleasure of killing.

Wow - that video in the second interview. After the newscasters show the clip of CW parents, they talk more about the case and say there is a "letter" that CW wrote to his sister at some point and said, "If anything happens to me, look at my wife," and that the family says that proves Shanann was unstable. That is the first I have read/seen of this "letter." Have we discussed that at all here? (49 threads I may have missed!!)

ETA more detail: This is also the video where the reporter asks, "What happened to this kid from Pine Forest High School?" showing an innocent picture of CW. And his mother says, "What happened? He met Shanann."

The newscaster also says in the clip, that the Watts family felt that "Shanann was dangerous and that they didn't even go to the couple's wedding."

Oh my Lord, now SW was so dangerous, they didn't dare go to the wedding. GMAB

She is not helping anyone. Not her son, not herself, not her husband, not her daughter. Everyone knows his story and some believe him some don’t but dragging her name through the mud isn’t going to help him at all. He won’t get a lesser sentence. His story is next to impossible to prove. She should be quiet. She’s airing dirty laundry that doesn’t belong to her. Sad.

BBM. She has dirtied the laundry.

From your lips to itunes' ears. We can only hope. I'm still listening to "sesh" 14. It feels like it's never going to end. They did mention that HLN plugged their podcast so I have no idea if they are getting more listeners from that.
This program is exceedingly creepy. Peddling merchandise, lauding themselves via callouts from other media outlets and laughing during discussion of a domestic violence and child murder case while taking 20 minutes to ramp up to potential content.... "Get off my lawn!" I can't take it.

I am so thankful to Websleuths and @Tricia et al for curating a forum that is sensible, compassionate, and victim-friendly.

I guess this “letter” was that magical piece of evidence that was hinted at that we would see at trial that. We always wondered why some people supposedly knew something that we didn’t. Must be this letter.
Yes, I wonder if someone in the family or a friend of the family was present in some of the SM groups that supported him and played a big role in convincing people of what a horrible person Shanann was. That would explain how people seemed to know certain things and how it spread so fast. What a horrible thing to do.

But you don't have to be highly educated or sophisticated to show some love and concern for your murdered grand babies or the surviving family of your murdered Daughter inlaw.
They seem incapable of showing compassion. They could easily speak up for CW without bashing SW, once again makes me think of the adages- if you have nothing nice to say don’t say anything at all and don’t speak ill of the dead

IMHO, they didn't and don't care much at all for their grandchildren. Their hatred of SW was stronger than any feelings for the kids, sadly.

Agree...comes across as "she deserved to die" and "we don't really care about the kids".

Sick

But the biggest problem is that he CANNOT talk to them alone because any meetings/calls with him and his parents would be recorded and videod by the prison. The attorneys are trying to protect him because the parents are very emotional and volatile and the wrong things could be asked or answered.

If they asked him to be specific about what happened that night, it could ruin his chances at a trial and or at a good plea deal.
Since he has alreany confessed, what kind of predicament could he get into by talking openly with them now? Not that I think he wants to , I think he is avoiding his mother like the plague and allowing his defense team to take the flak for it.

Yes, and somehow that dangerous woman and her children are dead, but her lovely son is alive.

Somebody mentioned the reviews on that unnamed podcast earlier. I just went to itunes to read them and, unless I'm doing something wrong, it looks like it's been removed from the Itunes store. Wondering if Itunes has had a bunch of complaints.
You’re right. It’s gone from my podcasts app. Must have been reported and removed like you said.

BBM. This wording is absolutely crazy-making. Are they somehow unaware that no one will ever be able to get to know or be around Shanann again? Please stop vaguely hinting about how awful she was and then explaining that the proof of it can only come from getting to know her. Well, we can't. Thanks to Chris. So stop.
Jmo.

Dear God, don't let it be that.

I tend to think if he put those girls in the tanks alive the state would not spare him the Death Penalty. Everybody knows those Autopsy Reports were going public at some time.

I wonder if someone threatened legal action for, like maybe slander or libel or defamation of character??

They are still on YouTube and FB.
