Families of Shanann Watts, her 2 daughters and defendant in Watts murder case trade words
Legal experts, not involved in the case weighed in on the new developments. Defense attorney Chris Decker said, “Basically a desperate act by a loving mother who probably has no idea of the particulars of the evidence or her sons criminal acts or decisions in the aftermath of them. Not particularly uncommon for a mother to have the perspective of “not my son”. The court probably won’t take any action unless something is filed or raised by the defense.”

Defense attorney Harvey Steinberg said there is a way to withdraw a plea before sentencing, but does not believe it will happen in this case. Steinberg said, “Remember the mother is not in a position to withdraw the plea. The mother can scream and yell and do everything she wants. Maybe it’s appropriate, maybe it’s not but ultimately it’s his decision after sitting and talking to his lawyers. There is a rule, rule 32 allows the withdraw of plea prior to sentencing if there is a fair and just reason. I don’t know what the fair and just reason is here. So do I think there is a likelihood that any judge would allow him to withdraw the plea? The answer is no.”

That's what I was wondering. How could they prove the date it was written if it's a handwritten letter? Wouldn't it have to be on a computer to prove that he wrote it long before? And even then he could have just done it as part of his plan.
Everyone would just have to take CW’s word for it.:rolleyes:o_O

Good. I agree with both of these experts. It’s an act of desperation by a mother who has lost control, and her effort is doomed to failure.

The Titanic is sinking and she is screaming at the iceberg. That ship is going down no matter what.

I don't think that will meet the strict chain of custody rules that would be needed to enter the alleged letter as a piece of evidence. And even if it somehow made it in, the DA would have handwriting analysis done and ink analysis and every other kind of analysis needed to get it thrown out or disregarded. Ink can be dated. It would be easy to prove when the ink was manufactured and, therefore, how "old" the letter could possibly be.

Maybe he wrote it while they were visiting them.... if that is when he started planning SW's death.

They are making really serious allegations against the defense team, wow.

Wow. What in the actual *bleep* is happening right now? I can't believe I'm saying this, but I kind of understand CW's thinking in this matter. If this is their typical reaction to him doing something they don't like, it's not hard to see why he cut them out of the communication loop regarding his legal decisions. Mercy.

Jmo.

Just going in a different direction, but in relation to CWs mothers claim that she’s trying to save his life. By CWs own admission he has already admitted to (via his ludicrous story of what happened) 5 of the 9 counts he was charged with, ie. killing shanann, and moving all the bodies. Is her hope that he would have fought the murder charge in relation to SW and got it reduced to a lesser charge?

Also with regard to her wanting to ‘save’ his life, doesn’t the plea agreement do that as DP is now off the table?

Try not to hurt yourself trying to get inside her head. The logic of her thinking could only be understood by a crazy person.

I guess she thinks he could somehow prevail in court, and everything will magically go away.

Wow. And according to the accusers, the defense likely destroyed the alleged warning letter!!
He sent a “letter” and not an email? Who does that?

Magical thinking. Literally.

He's going to have more of a life not being on death row than he would have on death row. He would be really isolated for the rest of his miserable life sitting on death row. Taking the plea will give him a chance at some point to interact with other inmates and do group activities or whatever people do in prison.

Or a text message if it’s to a family member jmo
if something happens to me look at my wife. Sounds like it came from a pulp fiction novel. Maybe it did.

The way his father said CW went into a “rage,” and killed her, like a “rage” is something understandable that we all go into when we catch our spouses strangling our children, and that Chris would die in jail, and who knows what will happen to him in there, I do think they think if he fights he will be acquitted or at least get a lesser sentence.

Didn't OJ coach a prison football team or something in prison in NV? Maybe Chris can coach a baseball team in prison. His mother seems fixated on talking about how he played sports as a child.
