Thanks for posting that! It provides so much more insight into his mother and her thinking, than those tiny interview clips ever could.

Her hatred of Shanann comes across loud and clear.

She paints Chris as a victim of Shanann, saying that he was always on edge around her.

She says that she and Shanann never got along, and when he mentioned divorce to her, she thought that “he had finally seen the light.”

She does seem open to the possibility that he could have done this, but makes an excuse for him, saying that something must have been wrong with him (mentally), for that to have been the case.

She bashes the attorneys, implying that they didn’t provide him with an adequate defense.

She complains about her being unable to communicate with Chris, saying that things would have gone differently had she been allowed to speak with him prior to the plea (thank God she didn’t).

I can’t say this enough, but she still can’t comprehend that he’s a grown 🤬🤬🤬 man, who can make decisions for himself.

She knows that she will be free to talk to Chris after sentencing, but bemoans the fact that it will be too late.

She can’t understand the plea, as the death penalty isn’t used in Colorado, and death row may actually be better than prison.

She says that when she did speak with him, it was through glass, via telephone. She starts to say that he cried during their discussion of the memorial service for the children, but then changes it to say that he looked like he was going to cry.

I’m sure.

Basically, no matter what, Chris isn’t fully responsible for this crime.

Apple. Tree.
And after all the attacks on SW character, the worse Cindy could come up with about SW was that she said CW used too much hair gel, and dressed like a skater boy. So, 6 years ago CW would have been 27 years old, and I believe that I too would say that it was time to give up the wardrobe and style of a 17 year old. Except Cindy really liked keeping CW at the maturity of a 17 year old (for obvious reasons). MOO

Seriously. How dare she say anything derogatory about his appearance!

My suspicion is that she said some things in jest, that mommy has twisted into something that it was not.

It’s starting to creep me out how she continually makes it sound like he’s still a teenage boy.

It’s VERY disturbing.....

Extended interview with Cindy Watts. Wow! Watch this. The things she says.
Extended Interview: Cindy Watts, Chris Watts' mother, questions son's plea deal

Yes, lots of disdain and hatred leaking through about her dead daughter in law.

But starting around 15:00 or so, she is actually beginning to process the likely possibility that her son did all the murders himself. She was thinking out loud, brainstorming, and kind of trapped herself, by saying' why is he pleading guilty if he didn't do this..' and 'would a normal person dispose of the children that way?'...and she said "I'd call 911 if that happened...'

So she does have questions and concerns about his version of the story...it might be dawning on her...

Absolutely. But the truth about the offense was that Cindy was picking out the Skater boy clothing, and buying his hair gel!

They act like telling someone they dress like a skater boy in jest (or even as a criticism) is cruel and unusual punishment. It REALLY struck a chord with the insider and his mom.
They should hear some of the things I call my husband.

I definitely picked up on that as well. The concerning thing was that she basically said that if he did it, there must be a medical (mental) reason behind it.

That’s where she likely ends up here, he did it, but there’s something wrong with his brain.

Poor thing.

Wow. She has a light and peaceful look on her face in beginning of interview talking about Chris’ childhood. As soon as Shannan comes into the conversation, a disgusted scowl appears on her face. Then the criticism begins.

She can’t help herself. She cannot refrain from showing her hatred.

Yes, but as a mother, with a grown son, who has a lovely wife and a 3 yr old girl, I feel some compassion for this selfish/toxic woman. It must be so devastating to try and accept this horrible new reality. I just cannot imagine the horror of it.

Truth be told, she contributed to this nightmare by boycotting the wedding, and being so petty and hateful. But I still feel sympathy , mother to mother, grandmother to grandmother, because it is so utterly devastating. And I only say that NOW, because I saw a level of emotional vulnerability in that interview, where the REALITY was breaking through her wall of denial, and I saw some humanity there.

Absolutely. Her face, her tone, the things she said, it was abundantly clear.

She missed her only son's wedding because she hated Shanann so much. That tells you all you need to know.

I've tempered my view a little bit, because I also saw reality beginning to creep through.

Just a little though.

Ha, I know. Since when do girlfriends not try and upgrade their boyfriend's fashion sense. It is part of our wifely duties to throw out the K-mart t-shirts and get them some classy threads. lol

Yes. If I put aside my feelings regarding her despicable comments about Shannan, I can sympathize with her.

She needs a good friend to embrace her and tell her it’s ok to cry and let it out. Maybe then she can get it all out. Including the blame and disdain for Shannan. Get past that and move to the grief. For the loss of her son and grandkids.

Right, it was just a teeny tiny bit of humanity, peeking through. But I saw a crack in that wall of hatred. And there is a lot of grief behind that wall, and it's going to flood through soon, in my opinion.

Her petty hatred towards Shanann disgusts me. But I think her karma is headed her way, big time, and she feels it.

I sincerely doubt that's possible. I think that she is the way she is, and her relationship with Shanann isn't some sort of blip on the radar.

Yeah, I agree. For me, that was the biggest takeaway, that she atleast seemed open to the possibility that her son did what he's admitted to.

I didn't get that feeling in those shorter interviews, atleast anything to this extent.

But I suppose that when you have to actually look for humanity in a person, it doesn’t say much about them to begin with.

Still watching this extended interview . I can’t believe she never shows much emotion. I would be gasping for air. Talking about the “loss” of my son and death of my grandkids. Her eyes got a little wet once in a while but not a drop leaving her eyes. And I have it on a big screen!

OMG. She’s comparing the loss of Chris to Shannans parents loss of her. STOP CINDY.

I think it’s quite possible her name would be released when they release the evidence. Media has probably respected her desire to stay quiet for the sake of the investigation. Once her name was released they would be vultures, with news vans parked in front of her house and reporters w/microphones stalking her at work. By giving that interview she denied them the possibility of badgering her into an attempted scoop.

Plus she probably doesn’t know exactly what evidence would be released and it would be awful if her name was released and details of the affair, but not the lies he told her and that she contacted police before his arrest. At least she got her full story out.

As someone else pointed out, the timing was genius. She’ll have a lousy 3 days but come Monday the press will have more information to chew on amd she will blessedly be old news.

Agree! I also wouldn’t be surprised if the parents interviews made her really angry too. She knows for sure CW isn’t the golden boy they are painting him to be.

I agree 100%. It’s probably sickening for her to hear this.

I give her a lot of respect for coming forward. In an earlier post, someone used Amber Frey’s name as a verb. I thought that was clever. Nickol definitely Amber Frey’d this investigation. Knowing she’d get unwanted attention and be splattered in the media. That takes guts.
