My guess is the Judge doesn't consider them to be in the "in-law" category. His order called them "paternal grandparents" and they do have a biological connection to the girls. I think the Judge wants to hear what they have to say directly rather than through their attorney. JMO
I doubt that the judge “wants to hear” anything that these people have to say.

But he’d rather hear them say it, as opposed to an attorney.

Wow to the AP interview.. I think like others she probably saw cindy and also felt like this is good timing pre-sentencing..

The fact he mentioned apartments and he actually called her about being divorced points squarely to premeditation imo.. This may have even accelerated the timeline.. I do think he had decided this while she was away, I just haven't figured out if the girls were always part of his plan or if that happened in the moment ( for want of other words that's awful to type)

I listened to that awful podcast and can't believe what they are saying about the thayers.. I do think they need to be shut down!

Zero. She hasn't mentioned him yet except once to say that Christopher never wanted him.
You know, I pity his parents and I try to feel compassion, watching her interview, but that is such a damn cruel thing to say. She can't even treat his memory with respect.

The autopsies are going to be so revealing, I hope they determine time of death - worried about that because of where they were found.
it has always bothered me too.
nico and shanann being buried and belle and cece in the tanks was unfortunate.
had they all been in the same environment the predictablity and proof of timing would be much clearer to suggest what we really want to know.

As soon as that arrest affidavit was online, and before any of us wondered who
N.Kessinger was, she had been outed online by people who worked for that company. Apparently it was not a secret to them, nor was it short lived, according to those posters and I read several sarcastic comments about how "cozy" they were at work. Within a day or so her name had been redacted. I am still undecided as to how truthful she has been so far.
I believe her. She went directly to LE once she felt something was off.

Thanks for posting that! It provides so much more insight into his mother and her thinking, than those tiny interview clips ever could.

Her hatred of Shanann comes across loud and clear.

She paints Chris as a victim of Shanann, saying that he was always on edge around her.

She says that she and Shanann never got along, and when he mentioned divorce to her, she thought that “he had finally seen the light.”

She does seem open to the possibility that he could have done this, but makes an excuse for him, saying that something must have been wrong with him (mentally), for that to have been the case.

She bashes the attorneys, implying that they didn’t provide him with an adequate defense.

She complains about her being unable to communicate with Chris, saying that things would have gone differently had she been allowed to speak with him prior to the plea (thank God she didn’t).

I can’t say this enough, but she still can’t comprehend that he’s a grown 🤬🤬🤬 man, who can make decisions for himself.

She knows that she will be free to talk to Chris after sentencing, but bemoans the fact that it will be too late.

She can’t understand the plea, as the death penalty isn’t used in Colorado, and death row may actually be better than prison.

She says that when she did speak with him, it was through glass, via telephone. She starts to say that he cried during their discussion of the memorial service for the children, but then changes it to say that he looked like he was going to cry.

I’m sure.

Basically, no matter what, Chris isn’t fully responsible for this crime.

Apple. Tree.

Very good summation! You know, mommy really believes that SW stole her son. Did she think he was going to be 5 forever? BTW a very controlling spouse is not the type to leave her husband alone, unmonitored (lol) for 6 weeks, while she is many states away. Mommy just didn't like that SW had her own way and it didn't include following mommy's rules. "Skater boy", oh my, so harsh. *eye roll* Didn't we also hear that on this board? SW was probably boggled as to why CW truly didn't know how to do many things, like paying for parking tickets.

That's not what Cindy said. She made it quite clear she wants her son to tell her what happened and if he did kill the girls to explain why he told his dad that SW killed the girls. Cindy made it quite clear she would prefer to hear this from her son PRIOR to sentencing. I don't believe her request is unreasonable at all. JMO
I would want to know too. He is a grown man, no one can make him tell or talk to her if he doesn't want to.

since Ashleigh Banfield is now gone, is there any National television show that is covering this case on a regular basis? Or just HLN occasionally on different shows?
Paging Nancy Grace.........

I’m reading that the photo of Nichol Kessinger that is being displayed with the article is a paid actress, not the real Nichol Kessinger. ?

I could be wrong, but I don't think the judge is concerned about what the Wattses seem to want to say about CW's plea deal; I think he is making sure that they are afforded their right to speak as survivors of their son's crimes.
We'll agree to disagree. I'm pretty sure the Judge concluded the grandparents are victims because their grandchildren were murdered. JMO

Seems to me that Cindy forgot that her 30 minute visit with CW was recorded, and it did not go down as she recounted to the Judge, and/or broadcast to the wold!

She obviously refreshed her memory or recalled a few things......
New rule, don’t quote me till I edit my spelling errors please, lol. I never catch them before I hit post  My proofreading is lacking.

Their attorney has no standing as they are not a party to the case. They apparently have a right to make a statement as a victim at the hands of CW.
They do. And they are victims. I hope they show grace and compassion.

We don't disagree about that. That's what I meant by their being survivors of their son's crimes.

Well that's just weird. Where is he in the birth order, does anyone know?
IIRC his sister is several years older. MOO Sorry I don't have a link.

The photo in the article is the same person as her FB page before she closed it.

She was agreeing with you, the judge is granting them the right to speak because they are victims of their son’s crimes, he killed their grandchildren. He is not granting them the right to speak because of their displeasure of their son’s decision to not communicate with them. I do understand their angst and frustration of not knowing what has transpired with his defense but in recent interviews she has changed her story, she now saids his defense was willing to go to trial but Chris did not want too. She also said she was able to ask Chris if he wanted the plea and he told her he did.

Ok. I think the person who is stating this is mistaken. Thx. I don’t do FB. I think people also look different in make up and when professionally shot.

He was the second of two children. His sister is 7 years older.

I saw something, somewhere, from someone that stated CW is the youngest. But I may have dreamed it :) Just saw @MassGuy's post so added this as an edit. What he said! :)

Interesting, all females in his life except his father, the one he asked to come to him in Colorado. Picking up on what could be the dynamics, controlling mother and dominating older sister, wife experiencing new success, needy young daughters and now baby boy on the way.

NK reported that she never met any of CW's family or friends. No confirmation that any of his friends knew about NK except for his friend @trinket who reported here that he/she knew about the AP.
