Isn't it kind of funny how quickly everything happens in this case? SW and the girls were barely missing before the husband was arrested for their murders. We thought we were looking at years leading up to a trial, yet less than 3 months later he pleads out. We'd just started talking about that podcast and it's already imploded. The whole thing has moved at a lightning speed. I mean, that's good. It's just like bam, bam, BAM!

With the District Attorney's Office thinking it would not be going to trial for four to five years, there might be a lot of investigative work that has never been done and will never be done. That is one of the reasons I think he is pleading so quickly is because it takes time to uncover a lot of things as we have seen in Florida cases and others. Especially digital information.

The district attorney said he was getting a report together for the correction department, so I'm wondering how much of the investigative work was still on the table to do.

I feel like a dummy, I had to google the definition of allocute:

“An allocution, or allocutus, is a formal statement made to the court by the defendant who has been found guilty prior to being sentenced. It is part of the criminal procedure in some jurisdictions using common law.”

Allocution - Wikipedia

ETA-The district attorney said in his presser, that he did not know if he was going to ask him to allocute because he thought he would probably just lie.

We do know that to be a true statement. Proven liar.

ETA-The district attorney said in his presser, that he did not know if he was going to ask him to allocute because he thought he would probably just lie.

(Allocute, electrocute, either is fine with me. Especially since he waaaants to avoid the death penalty. Again, ironic and cowardly as he had no problem imposing a death sentence on others. Of course I would prefer he live a miserable life in prison.)

Wait a minute, my tax dollars are going to go to feeding this creep? I heard a stat once that is costs more to have someone on death row than it does in prison?

Whatever the case Death Row is off the table.

Which reminds me, when he is sentenced we might not even know which prison he goes to per that thing I mentioned a long time ago re: that bill and the Governor drama, not sure what the status of all that is re: in high profile cases the prisoner’s location is kept a secret. This is/was the case of the Aurora theater shooter and ARS who killed Jessica Ridgeway and there was some controversy re: this.

(“Officials with Colorado’s Department of Corrections said Sigg was moved to an unknown location for the safety and privacy of himself, his family and Ridgeway’s family.”

Austin Sigg Moved To Out-Of-State Prison

“Prison officials shipped killer James Holmes out of state in January after he was attacked at a maximum-security prison in Cañon City. The officials said the transfer was done in the interest of safety, for Holmes and for correctional officers. He is probably being held under a pseudonym, and the DOC won’t tell victims or even the district attorney’s office that prosecuted the case where he is.“

Aurora theater shooting gunman's location subject of victims rights complaint

James Holmes' whereabouts are allowed to remain a secret after split committee vote )

I guess it doesn’t matter which prison he is in but to some of the families it was important to them and they wanted to know where he was.

My prediction? He will get his arse beat in prison, maybe even killed (if not in solitary—-I had asked but must have missed the answer if he will be protected in anyway considering the high profile nature of this case and the fact he will be a convicted “baby killer”, literally.) Or he will commit suicide if he’s not too narcissistic to kill himself.

So, will he go to Colorado Supermax?

“The United States Penitentiary, Administrative Maximum Facility is an American federal supermax prison for male inmates located in Fremont County, Colorado. It is unofficially known as ADX Florence, Florence ADMAX, or the "Alcatraz of the Rockies."”

ADX Florence - Wikipedia

Or will he go to Cañon CSP?

“Colorado State Penitentiary (commonly abbreviated CSP) is a Level V maximum security prison in the U.S. state of Colorado. The facility stands in the state's East Cañon Complex with six other state correctional facilities of various security levels.“

Colorado State Penitentiary - Wikipedia

Going back and watching the porch interviews again (ewwwww, and why must I?) reminded me of a few questions I had before I was able to start posting on threads. Hopefully this will make sense....

On the Denver7 (and most of the other interviews as well), I noticed CW had a slow blink / long blink mannerism when he spoke about the girls or mentioned their names or described them. It looks to me as if he is trying to close his eyes or hide an image from his mind. To me, that is a pretty telling behavior that something is off.

On the 9News interview, does anyone think that the woman’s question about his shirt at the 6:45 mark was an intentionally off-topic question to see if his mannerisms changed when he was not talking about their disappearance (i.e. lying his face off?) Kind of the way you would ask someone a series of casual questions at the beginning of a deposition (or lie detector test) to see if they behave differently or seem rehearsed when you ask them questions for the deposition?

And if so, do you think he kept the same affect? Or did his manner change?
His manner changed, the arms dropped from hugging himself. I have wondered if the reporters were undercover cops :D They did a great job.

The slow blinks were obvious and he did it more than once. I'd say it was defense mechanism and self-denial. His own body was revealing what his mouth would not.

Unfortunately not, but later I will be checking for updates on my way to work (on the train, not driving mind you)

That was in the paragraph right above the one I'm referencing.

What I'm referring to is the second to last sentence on page 2. Several words are blacked out in that sentence, and it was right before he asked to speak to his dad and then he would tell the truth.

We've discussed this blacked sentence before, but I don't think we ever really figured out what it was. If the Denver7 article is accurate and it says police documents said he admitting to doing so (killing them) then I think it's possible he admitted it during his interrogation and then came back with his confession, which was the lie about Shanann.

It that is accurate, he was totally toasted, because that would have been used against him. IMO.

Watts family murders: Chris Watts scheduled to be sentenced Monday

Thank you for pointing that out. I also re-read the Denver 7 article, and the following passage is confusing to me:

But the affidavit for his arrest says that Watts claimed in conversations with officers that after he told Shanann he wanted to separate, he saw Shanann strangling their daughters on a baby monitor and retaliated, killing her. But Rourke said after the plea deal was official that Watts had lied and actually killed all three of them—something he and his family still deny.

Is 7News reporting that after CW pled guilty in court to all charges according to his signed plea agreement, that CW and his family still deny this? Cindy Watts has made it perfectly clear this past week that she doesn't believe CW responsible for the death of her grandchildren, but why is CW suddenly being cited that he denies killing all 3 of them?

See, I don’t get how people think he’s good looking.

By that standard, I’m an Adonis.

I do think he’s going to have a rough go of it in there.

That’s too bad.

Aussie times:

Brizzy: 3:00 a.m.
Sydney: 4:00 a.m.
Melbourne: 4:00 a.m.

If you want to see any of the pre-sentencing coverage you’ll need to get up 1hr 30 mins earlier than the above times. It will be broadcast on Coloradoan Facebook.

I wouldn’t miss this for anything. In fact I’d pay good money to see it.

Perth is 1:00 a.m.

I wonder if he will be in the same prison as Travis Forbes (Kenia Mongue’s killer) , or Robert Dear the Planned Parent mass shooter. Or eventually Christopher Parker, currently held in Larimer County Jail for some of the NOCO shootings.

(ETA: It appears Travis Forbes is Canon:
Travis Forbes Writes From Prison That He Can't Look At Himself In The Mirror (WATCH) | HuffPost

“Forbes, 32, is serving his prison sentence at the Colorado State Penitentiary—housing the state’s “most violent, dangerous, and disruptive offenders”—for the 2011 murder of Kenia Monge and attempted murder of Lydia Tillman.”

As for Robert Dear, how could I have forgotten:

“Subsequent court-ordered mental competency evaluations determined Dear to be delusional, and the judge presiding over the case ruled in May 2016 that Dear was incompetent to stand trial and ordered him indefinitely confined to a Colorado state mental hospital. In 2018, the court ruled that Dear remains incompetent to stand trial.“

It's hard for me to judge his looks knowing what we know. If I'd seen a picture of him before I knew about the murders, I'd probably think he was nice looking (at least his recent pictures). I never thought Scott Peterson was attractive. There was always something so smarmy about him, though other women I knew thought he was super hot. I really didn't get that at all.

Today is THE day. I really wish I could take off work. I was wondering if I should dvr HLN coverage or just wait and catch all the links, accounts and post-live coverage here and online after. What say you?

These family annihilator killings seem to be escalating. We’ve now had 3 in 4 months in Oz.

Barely four weeks after Shan’ann and her children were murdered, a 24-year-old father was charged with murdering his three daughters, his partner and the children's grandmother. He used a blunt instrument and knives to murder his 3-year-old daughter, 2-year-old twins, their 41 year-old mother and the children’s 73-year-old grandmother. He remained in the house with the bodies for several days before surrendering himself to the police.

Like so many other family annihilators, he showed little emotion as the charges were read out in court. The neighbours said there was no hint of conflict at the home. There were money problems. The twins had the same sort of personalities as Bella and CeCe.

Father allegedly killed wife, girls, then killed mother-in-law the next day

It's all of 9:20 p.m. in the Blue Mountains so I have to go to bed immediately because I want to see an hour of the pre-sentencing coverage. See you all soon. Try and stay calm.

  • #519
Haaaa. A lot of people wake up early for major sporting events, but to wake up early for the sentencing of a murderer is probably pretty unusual.

We’re all obsessed, but you guys in Australia are both obsessed and dedicated.

I’d do the same thing though!

Pfft! Getting up at 3 a.m. for weeks on end to watch the Oscar Pistorius trial, now that was Obsession and dedication!

ITA!! I never thought SP was attractive AT ALL. It's a matter of type and taste...I did, however, think CW wasn't bad looking except for his strange looking head shape and too close haircut...Right off the bat I got a gay vibe off him, which may or may not be valid...But as the days and weeks went on, with all his lies and him and others bashing and blaming Shanann, he got uglier and uglier in my eyes. His looks never made me think or want to think he was innocent and/or telling the truth.
