My heart is heavy. What a tragedy. It’s unfair. I just watched the sentencing video and I’m just in shock. I thought that he had murdered them after he snapped but turns out he planned it! Over another woman!
Like if Shannan wasnt enough for him. Seriously, what a woman Shannan was. What a smart, go-getter, gorgeous and kind woman. Healthy, sweet smart Bella and Cece and baby Nico. When the sentencing startsd I felt bad for him, he looked like crap but it was all because he is embarrased. I just feel like there is no hope in humanity. Humans can be demons. I feel worse than before, I can’t begin to imagine the horror they felt that night and the nightmare that Shannan’s family is going through.

No. One of the pod people began to act as "family representative" for the Watts family. They say they arranged the media interviews for the Mr and Mrs Watts. They also wrote a letter (email) to the judge that ended up being put into the record and officially responded to by the judge.

Then, they did a podcast where they claimed to a source who had seen the autopsy results. They talked about things that were not born out when we saw the actual results today. Radar Online picked up the story from their podcast. One of the hosts accused the other host of selling the story to Radar. The hosts are still not talking - though one has now reached out to the other and asked for reconciliation.

They had also been teasing the handwritten letter that they posted today.
Yes, they put a statement about being mislead about the autopsy. Followed that with a post but we still have the letter right as the DA was saying the letter was a fake.
I thought it was weird that none of them had pants on? I don’t have kids so I don’t know if they would normally wear PJ pants. I would think they would. Shannan might not, especially if it was hot. I don’t think it’s anything nefarious, just thought it was odd.
not really odd, it is easier if they have to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. Maybe CeCe did not wear pants to be like her big sister. I think their pj’s were more like long shirts but not quite a night gown.

Shanann Watts

I think nightgowns like this are what the girls were wearing. Cece even has on a pink one with hearts and butterflies. So unbelievably sad

Wasn't the comment that CW's mother went to another rag, for money, that caused problems with the Podcast where the mother initially had her interviews?
Now expenses for hotels, or flights will not be paid for the Watts.
I bet, they wish they hadn't complained, about being on the same floor of the hotel, that Shan'ann's family were.
It was free.
Now no more freebies.
Let us see, what paid interviews might result for the Watts.
MOO.

I suspect the other rag simply 'took' the info from the podcast without anyone selling the info to them.

Listen to the professionals
CW Post-sentencing press conference led by Michael Rourke, Weld County District Attorney

35:38

Off-camera question: "Were any social media rumors really disruptive to your process?"

Rourke, Weld County DA: "All of them are disruptive to our process, and and I don't say that crassly.

When we are out [...] conducting interviews of witnesses and an individual's memory might be tainted by something inaccurate that they read on a social media site, that causes us to think, 'okay- how much do we really... How much is, is true of what somebody is saying? What did they see? What did they hear? Or what are they surmising or guessing because of something that they read on, on social media?'"

I share this here because I have seen numerous instances where news outlets or blogs have followed-up on threads of tips I have read first on Websleuths (uncredited of course). So let this be a message that drifts out from this case:

Speculation/rumors on social media about these horrific crimes disrupted the investigation and the reliability of witness memory. The interest in knowing, in being right, in connecting with others over suspicions, in defaming a victim for selfish and unknowable reasons- disrupted a murder investigation where without clear motive or provocation a man slaughtered four people in his family and attempted to walk free within days.

I have always been conflicted about communicating my "hunches" via social media during an active investigation. Rourke's words give us reason to pause before pressing send, although those who most need to are least likely to.

A summary of wholesome goals one could use before speaking, in an adaption of the Buddhist tradition, "THINK" before you speak,

Is it True (factual)
Is it Helpful (objectively and to the receiver)
Is it In Time? (is now really the best time?)
Is it Necessary? (what would happen if you didn't say it?)
Is it Kind? (does it add to positivity in the universe?)

Fading at 8 plus hours straight here but around 1:28 ish in PC Rourke talks about the unlikeliness of a stranger getting out and locking the house back up. Noting for current and future case reference.

Can’t wait to catch up on everyone’s thoughts and all the posts from today!!! I chose to take a student approach because I knew we had all the best updaters and transcribers on WS in here!

Hugs to @BabyButterfly and @Colorado303

@Colorado303 - thank you for being an amazing person in real life. We don’t always get to meet people we know online but I can assure you that you are a real and honest person of the earth.

I appreciate you so much.

Beautiful photo at 1:28:30.

Today on HLN the continuous and various side by side photos and videos being shown on split screen were very powerful and impacting. Shanann was beautiful inside and out and so were HER precious daughters.

The DA stated the amount of time to strangle takes time.
Therefore the act was intentional.

To hear that I didn’t kmow her? I did know her. I hadn’t known her for long — only about a year.
I think what U.K. sleuth meant was that it was hard for us all to hear it and we didn’t know SW so if that’s the case and we didn’t know her then how much worse it must be for you , you who did know her. It must have been utterly indescribable for you. X

CW will now transfer to prison. When he first arrives at prison, I understand a intake process happens.
Not sure the details.

CW is already paying penance, from the time he had been arrested: no longer being free for the life he planned, wherever he is, and will eventually go to.
MOO.

Now that CW has admitted to murdering his family in cold blood, I wonder what the significance is of that photo of the doll draped in the white sheet laying on the couch.

Was that some kind of Freudian slip on CW's part:eek:?
An omen?
I cannot get it out of my head.
Anyone have any theories about it?

LE most likely bagged the hands of the victims as they do in many homicide cases to protect and dna evidence as noted on the coroners report.....

Thank you, that explains it. Daily Mail is written so poorly, I was under the impression that her hands were found with bags on them.

I watched the press conference again and the shorter guy (forget his name, but not the DA) answered the questions about meeting with the Watts. He categorized it as a good meeting, but "awkward." (I'm sure!) My perception of his comments is that under the victim's rights act, he shared with them a lot of the reasons/evidence why they made those charges, and it was likely so compelling that the Watts had no choice but to believe. From that guy's demeanor and the DA kind of nodding his head in agreement behind him - it came off like they knew they had to indulge the Watts a little bit on this to make them see reality. And that he saw they started to shift a bit in their thinking and were in a different emotional place with it today, trying to wrap their heads around it.

The victim advocate woman (Powers?) did a good job with them. I mean clearly they didn't write that and weren't the ones thanking the community and the court and that CW should spend every last breath to make atonement. But at least they stood there and seemed to understand those were the right things to say. I'm glad the DA's office seemed to almost take pity on them and get them some basic information (and an advocate who could make appropriate statements for them on their behalf) to help grasp this, both for themselves, and also so they didn't cause more needless harm and hurt for SW's family today.

The guy who spoke to the Watts was Wren, the other guy, shaven head and baby face, was Sargent Albert.

It was only mentioned in the autopsy report. LE likely put the bags on her hands when they recovered her body as to protect any potential dna evidence.

Thank you, @Marli61 !

Important note and question likely covered upstream, will look for it when I go back to read...at 1:28ish to 1;29:94, Rourke is asked a question by a reporter which is inaudible to me (either that or Ivan cross-eared too which is highly likely)

“...I don’t know...will be the subject of some probate precedings, deep breaths, you know off the top of my head I can not remember, I apologize. I don’t remember the answer to that question.”

I'm just relieved that the 🤬🤬🤬 went through with the plea deal. He is going to be locked away for the rest of his worthless life.
