I don’t think CW sees himself as a villain, I think he sees himself as a victim.

I will never understand how a person can kill in cold blood like this.

Why did he strangle SW but yet smother the girls? I wonder why he originally told that story he killed SW because he saw her strangling Bella instead of saying smothering. Why did he kill the girls differently? Wouldn’t you smother someone with a pillow? Cover their faces? I’ve never heard of smothering with hands only. DA said no fibers found in the girls mouths so that means he smothered the girls with his bare hands? Ugh

Im wondering if he blames his Mom and I agree with Tricia that he was strangling his mother when he Strangled Shanann. I believe he has a deep hatred for his Mom who I’m sure was very controlling his entire life. Notice when he was arrested he wanted to talk to his Father not his Mom.
This is really an interesting theory. When Chris's mother spoke he didn't even look up and his lips were white. anger maybe?

Oh, I was referring to him bringing her to the house while they were gone, that's why I was confused. But yes, I don't think he would have brought her there when the girls were there, either way.

I’d imagine that, with the houses being so close together, neighbors would have noticed a pretty young woman visiting the house. The houses are very close together and it seems as though people see and notice everything.

You’d think cheating spouses would be more careful, but I know of so many stories where someone would bring their affair right into the marital bed. Very passive-agressive “eff you” to the spouse. And we know that Chris was passive-aggressive in the extreme.

He seemed to be spending up a storm on the credit cards, and didn’t seem to care that his wife knew.

Shan'ann Watts Confronted Chris Multiple Times About Suspicions of Affair Before He Murdered Her

In a press conference after the sentencing, Weld County, Colorado, District Attorney Michael Rourke said Shan’ann picked up on “a lot of suspicious behavior” by Chris. He said she received credit card phone notifications when she was in North Carolina for Chris’ restaurant tabs in Colorado that were likely for more than one person.

Rourke said Kessinger was “for the most part forthcoming,” but she had deleted information with a connection with Chris from her phone, which slowed the investigation.

Oh I agree. He's pathetic and disgusting

I am not sure about that. If that were me, I would just peek in their rooms and see that they were there. She would not be thinking of whether they were alive or not. They were tucked up in their beds. That would be enough as tired as she would have been.

I agree. As a mom to a 3 year old, I would do the very least to disturb that sleep as I can... Usually I just take a peek at the monitor when I come home after her bedtime. No one wants to wake a toddler up!

This has been eating away at me as well. It's not that I feel it was inappropriate that they forgive him, I get that. They are his parents, and of course they love him and want to forgive him. I am of the mindset that forgiveness most benefits the person forgiving, rather than person being forgiven, and if forgiving him brings them some comfort I am glad of that.

However.

One does not need to verbalize their forgiveness to another, when it is for themselves. And it is very clear that their need was for CW to know that he was forgiven. And in this context yes, especially given who was in attendance, it felt very inappropriate.

I think that, whether they came to it themselves, or they had help, that the Wattses have come to realize that this may very well be the last time they ever speak to their son. It has become painfully obvious over the past couple of weeks that he does not wish to speak to them. I think this was their way of saying goodbye, in a sense, this was what they wanted him to know, in the event that they never talk to him again.
Thank you for a very thought provoking post.

I was so sad after the hearing that I couldn't talk about it for a while. There was so much deep hurt and grief to digest and I think you're right that they felt it would be their last chance to say it, they couldn't live with the thought of not having said it. He might not accept visits and I also picked up a profound vibe that he will take his own life if he gets a chance.

Does anyone think CW should have gone on with the trial? Or was there just too much evidence against him?
THE DA was asked that after the presser and he replied that there was so much circumstantial evidence against him that they could have tried him.

I had the most horrible nightmares last night! I have not had any for a long time. I felt like I was being smothered. I read about SW and her sweet babies most of the day so I know the nightmares stemmed from that. I only hope CW has nightmares like I did for the rest of his wretched life. This will be the first Thanksgiving and Christmas without Shannann and her babies. We need to lift her mom, dad and brother up in prayer constantly.

According to this article men usually kill the children first.

The killer believes that the spouse is responsible for the destruction of the family unit. The children are killed because the husband blames the wife and kills everything associated with her … first the children go and then the wife—everything associated with the person is considered evil.

Why Ordinary People Murder Their Families

Trying to keep up, but I have three questions if someone will indulge me:

1. Was NK the only AP or was there evidence he was out trolling for women (or men) on websites?

2. NK "deleted" texts & FB posts before contacting LE. Do we know if they recovered them? (If she was so cooperative, she should never have deleted them, unless she was intending to lie to LE)

3. Did Shannan typically wear her engagement ring and her wedding ring or did she keep the engagement ring at home & only wear the wedding ring? If they are missing, it makes him even more heinous for "stealing" these items from her (and her heirs). Removing the signs of their marriage won't remove the existence of the marriage.

This guy is a pathetic malignant narcissist. I have to believe she suffered through most all this marriage from his narcissist abuse.

I know SW's parents won't do it but I wish they would sue the Watts for slander and deformation of character on behalf of Shanann.

I think he finally realized, perhaps/probably with a LOT of advice from his defence team, that the evidence was overwhelmingly damning.

I also think that he absolutely hated/hates being confronted with his lies and/or reality and does as much as he can to avoid it as well as not wanting anyone else (public, family, friends) to see or hear it.

AND I also think that LE & the DA have up until now released just enough of the evidence they have to a) arrest & charge him; b) explain (at sentencing & in the ensuing presser) how & why they “nabbed” him.

His goose was cooked and he knew it.

I’m glad he spared Shanann’s family the agony of a public dissection of the crimes — and the character assassination that would have happened in his defense.

I’m glad he spared the taxpayers the expense of a trial that would have inevitably ended the same way his plea did.

Justice was served, IMO. Now maybe the families can begin to heal.

CW didn't have previous relationships. He suffered from failure to launch.

Wow. This all goes back to the Narcissistic Mommy issues.

I actually am of the opinion that it was a sick little move of CW's. Didn't HE send the photo or am I mistaken? I put nothing past him though. MOO.

It was without a doubt in my mind so kind of sick joke. If it was a movie it would be foreshadowing. Something that was on his mind at the time leaking out in his behavior. What a twisted little jerk.

I still believe he is a narcissist, of the psychopath variety. No empathy, no remorse (other than the remorse he feels due to being found out), not capable of love. You cannot love someone and murder them, especially this horribly. Evil.

He is only in love with himself. I highly doubt he loved anyone else.
