I just cannot get over the fact stated by the DA that when his coworkers showed up at the location where he stuffed his children into the oil wells and buried his wife and unborn child that same morning, he acted NORMAL. Then fast forward to the porch interviews. Chills me to the bone.

I can’t speak for federal, but for state prison (at least in one midwest state—I imagine it’s somewhat similar everywhere). Everyone works (as in a job). Depends upon what your job is, but they will work all day (like a normal job) + break for lunch. Most people are up by 6:15am, but breakfast is from 5-8am. If you work in the kitchen, you’d need to be there earlier. If you’re in, say, the weld shop, maybe you get in there around 8am or whenever the leader of the shop arrives. ‘In your bunk’ time at night is around 10pm. There are multiple times during the day when they are lined up and counted. Etc. Etc. Let’s see if we learn more about where he is going to. Then it should be fairly easy to get more info.

I think the question was how did the information get out long before this. I wondered the same. Obviously someone was leaking information from the investigation. Imo
It could have also been leaked from someone at the school. People talk.

I'm quite surprised he left Dieter alive. As if Shan'ann would have left without taking him.

How did anyone other than Chris, LE and the school know that Chris had called the school to unenroll Bella? Who told any of the friends, family?
The staff had to be talking about it after seeing his interviews, then it spreads from there.

This is my read on CW too - he was fidgeting exactly like a belligerent teenager in the head teacher's office when getting a talking to they think is "just, like, such bull, man". It was just missing the eye rolling.

He doesn't care one jot about killing his children and his spouse. I'll buy him being "ashamed" of losing face in public and being crushed by the loss of status in a very public way - Mr Watts has become just another inmate for the rest of his life. Not special anymore. Not a good boy with a lot of promise. Just another face in the herd of people in orange jumpsuits, now. And that has to be eating him up.
I did notice CW shaking his head, “no” during Rourke’s presentation of the evidence, like a Rourke was falsely accusing him, and he wasn’t happy about it.

Still makes me wonder what CW plan actually was..... I always assumed it was to murder his family sunday. Go to work monday and come home and dispose of any evidence and make it appear as though SW took off with the kids to start a new life. SW friend smashed those plans by alerting LE. But that leads me to the obvious? Why did CW call the school and pull Bella? Was he trying to make it look like SW pulled Bella? Did he text or email the school pretending to be SW? things i wish we knew!
I think it is just as you said. He pulled them because he was going to act like Shanann took them and left. He would have called, not texted. I've never known a school that communicates with texting. Imo

I believe it is an earned privilege to actually get a job in prison. You have to work up to it. Be trustworthy. Perhaps he can clean toilets when everyone else is sleeping. I think he will be very isolated due to safety issues and that his crime is so very horrifying. The gold state killer did not personally know his victims. This is an entirely different ballgame. The Aurora theatre shooter had to be moved to an out of state prison for his safety. And he did not know his victims and was/is crazy. CW is in a whole new category not known to many. And even hardened criminals will have it out for him. He will be amongst like minded criminals. As he should be.

I didn't see the same thing in court others are seeing. I think talk of CW crying, being in fear, feeling shame are all attempts to humanize him. I get why people want to. It's so hard to imagine there are people out there, capable of these types of crimes.

But, CW is not human. He's some sort of subspecies.

This is a man that, one by one, killed his family in a manner that was up close and slow. Then he carried their lifeless bodies to his truck like he was making a dump run. Drove all the way to work with a truck bed full of corpses like it was nothing. Dumped his wife and unborn child in a shallow grave. Making sure they didn't even get to be together in death he carried tiny bodies to two separate tanks and then shoved them in tiny holes, scraping their skin and leaving clumps of hair along the edges.

Then he went off to work where it was reported he was behaving normally. Made a few phone calls to unenroll his kids and sell their family home - a place filled with memories of his family. A place they should have felt most safe. Gave cool as cucumber interviews where he laughingly showed off his favorite tshirt . Casually dropped hints to his friends he and SW were thinking of selling their house.

These are not the actions of a man capable of feeling any shame or empathy. He doesn't even feel fear the same way you and I and I do. I imagine he has a lot of anger and envy, but Chris Watts only cares about Chris Watts. Any emotions shown in court were 100% self serving.

Even DA Rourke said throughout the entire duration of the investigation CW never showed an ounce of remorse and will likely never tell the truth.

Not only will he never tell, but I'll bet he'll keep taking digs at the Rzucek family in the years to come. Like SP enjoys popping up every couple of years to proclaim his innocence and desire to find Laci and Connor's "real" killer, we'll probably hear from CW from time to time how SW really killed those babies or some other form of blame.

Moo

You get it 100%. Sorry to be morose, but those little girls would have had involuntary muscle spasms and jerking as every cell in their body was needing oxygen. I can't stand to see that part of dying. It haunts me, yet this monster observed that. And yes, he and Scott Peterson are the same kinds of monsters. They lack the smallest iota of human compassion.

Well, Chris could have spoken up and corrected Rourke and let everyone know what happened. What he was shaking his head to, who knows. Do you recall during what words he was shaking his head to?

If I'm remembering correctly, I think there was some chatter early on that CW seemed more concerned with his dog than his missing family

I will always be curious to know how CW responded to the loss of a pet, grandparent, friend, etc., or if he had any visible reaction to their loss at all. I'd like to know if CW ever buried a family pet, and/or how he disposed of the remains. Did he desecrate the remains of his pets? I find it difficult to believe his first inhumane disposal came in the form of dangling his baby girls from their wrists over crude oil tanks. MOO

It's all unfathomable and bizarre. And you know i don't think it's so black and white. Can these people feel empathy or love ever? Of any degree?

Because I deal with sociopaths and narcisissts in my work a lot. They do the bare minimum for their kids. They act when people are watching but can't keep it up all the time. Like Shanann would've definitely seen a different person at home. But she never seemed to indicate that was the case.

Baffling.

So I think it's more nuanced than just psychopath/narcissist. Maybe there's a special category we haven't yet discovered for these annihilators.

What's bizarre is the crazy things he did or didn't do, which pointed right at him. Like calling his child's school. Trying to sell the house. Not staging the home so it looked like she could leave. Not using cash with his affair.

And just the very fact that he took his hands and smothered his babies to death simply so he could be burden-free for his affair! Was t because he thought no one would believe Shanann would take off without her kids?

And then saying the girls were strangled when he knew he had smothered them. And he acted out the lie. Why? Why not say she smothered them?

It just really all makes no sense. It is indeed insane. But he shows no signs of real insanity.

Was his desire for or obsession of this woman so great he lost all reason?

I wish some pros could tell us what the heck is wrong with him. And why there are so many contradictions.

I have some catching up to do but in my honest opinion there's definitely some and I hate to say the word insanity, because it is (ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE) in this family ...but there are actions here that are definitely not normal and I do believe, based on what I have viewed, that he was always treated like a child by at least his mother and then Shannan, caring motherly person that she was/is forever will be, tried to take care of him and just like a child when he got tired of his toys he wanted to throw them out and that's how he viewed his beautiful loving family and that is not normal behavior.... actually I'm surprised they didn't go with the insanity plea, but then again i think whole family totally effed in the head!!
In my opinion, he could be multiply diagnosed with three different mental disorders but it still would not meet the requirements for an insanity plea. Very few disorders do. But you may be right that the family might have considered this. I think they were looking for any excuse at all. Imo

Argh. If he truly did feel he was falsely accused (which is nonsense—who did it all then?) .... then don’t sign the damn plea deal.

CW deserves cleary the same treatment as his victims, including a long bath in crude oil. But unfortunately this will never happen. I'm sure that they all feel immense anger towards him (who would not?? even I do) but I'm glad for them, that nobody ever got to touch this creature. They would receive punishment sooner or later and I don't believe that this was worth it. Let's see what Chris' "playmates" in jail can do for him.
Mmm - given that most prison inmates abhor those who have harmed a child, I definitely don't think he'll be part of the "in" crowd - I imagine there'll be some lined up to "sort things out" with CW. What a shame...

I grew up with a wonderful guy who was killed at his work, and the shooter also killed a cop responding to the 911 call, along with his wife. The day after he was sentenced to LWOP he "killed himself" with the glass from his eyeglasses. Sometimes the guards allow things to happen. They look the other way.

I remember that as well and thought to recall the exact portion but now I can't. It had something to do with the kids I think.
