Bolte provided CrimeOnline with screenshots of text messages between him and Watts that appear to support some type of relationship with Watts. Bolte said they were the first text messages he and Watts exchanged away from the MeetMe app. The messages differ starkly in tone from screenshots circulating on social media, purporting to be messages between Watts and Bolte. Bolte is aware of the images that have circulated and insists they have been fabricated, pointing out that the messages indicate the two men met on Tinder, which Bolte says is not true.

But Bolte did say that Chris had given him some money while they were together. He said that Chris gave him cash on a few occasions when he was in need of financial help, and that Chris offered the money while also stating that he was struggling financially himself. Bolte said that in addition to the cash gifts, which he believes totaled around $1,000, Chris Watts bought him expensive skin care products at Sephora. Bolte said Watts paid in cash.

Colorado prosecutors are demanding that triple-murder suspect Chris Watts turn over DNA samples, fingerprints palm prints and photographs of his hands in their case against him in the deaths of his pregnant wife, Shan’ann Watts, and their two young daughters.

In a motion filed Thursday, prosecutors asked the judge to compel Chris to provide them the evidence. The court has not yet ruled on the motion and the defense has until Monday to respond.

A source close to the case says prosecutors “are working very carefully. They know they can’t make a single mistake.”

When police arrived on Aug. 13 to the house Chris Watts shared with his wife, Shan’ann Watts, and their two young daughters, officers saw evidence confirming Shan’ann had recently returned from a trip.

Less apparent? Any clues about where she and her girls had gone, or why they vanished.

These details were first revealed in an arrest affidavit released after Chris, 33, was accused of murdering Shan’ann, then 15 weeks pregnant, and kids Bella and Celeste in their home in Frederick, Colorado.

The first responding officer — summoned about 1:40 p.m. that August day by a friend of Shan’ann’s for a welfare check after they got back from a work trip in Arizona that morning — noted that all the doors and windows were closed and locked “with no way into the house.”

As Rourke weighs Watts case, past capital punishment trials prove costly, time consuming
During a news conference this past month after charges had been filed, Rourke said it was too early in the process to make that decision. On Thursday, Krista Henery, spokeswoman for the Weld District Attorney's Office, reiterated Rourke's earlier statement. And it likely won't be until some time next year before a decision has been made.

According to Colorado law, a district attorney has 63 days from the date of an arraignment to determine whether to pursue capital punishment in a murder case. An arraignment hearing isn't on the docket yet and won't be scheduled until Watts' next hearing in November.

John Walsh and Kathryn Herold, Watts’ defense attorneys, filed a motion Aug. 29 asking the court to have “the government” investigate extrajudicial statements that could prejudice a jury in the case.

Christopher Watts, the man accused of killing his pregnant wife and two young daughters in August is apparently severely depressed after being kept in isolation after more than a month in jail.

A source at the Weld County Jail in Colorado confirmed that the 33-year-old murder defendant is now on suicide watch.

Text husband sent his wife months before ‘killing unborn child and kids’

Chris Watts, 33, sent the moving messages to wife Shanann, 34, on June 19, after she sent him an ultrasound pic showing their third pregnancy.

"Little Peanut!! Love her/him already!!!" he wrote in response to the photo she pinged to his mobile phone after looking at the tiny embryo of the child they planned to call Niko.

Colorado prosecutors want a judge to block the release of autopsy reports for a woman and two young girls who were killed and dumped at an oil work site, arguing that the cause of their deaths will be critical evidence during the trial for a man charged with killing his family.

Releasing information from the autopsies could influence witnesses and affect future jurors, District Attorney Michael Rourke said in a request filed Monday.

Autopsy reports are generally public records in Colorado, but judges can decide to seal them under certain conditions.

Christopher Watts case: Weld DA requests footprints to compare to evidence found near bodies

In a court order responding to this motion, 19th Judicial District Judge Marcelo Kopcow wrote that this motion is similar to a motion filed by the district attorney's office on Sept. 12 requesting cheek swabs, finger and palm prints, and photos of both of Watts' hands.

The defense objected to the Sept. 12 motion, saying that forcing Watts to provide what the court described as "non-testimonial evidence" violates his constitutional rights against unreasonable search and seizure and self-incrimination.

Because of the similar nature of the two motions, Kopcow ordered the defense to have a response to the new motion filed earlier than usual, by Sept. 20. The district attorney's office will then have until Sept. 24 to file a reply.

A non-porous bag with a possible footprint was found, according to a prosecution motion obtained by PEOPLE.

In the filing, dated Tuesday, authorities requested to take a print of Chris’ bare feet so they can determine if it matches those found on the bag.

A source close to the investigation confirms to PEOPLE that a bag bearing a possible footprint was found at the oil site, some 40 miles east of the Watts home.

But the source declined to divulge the size or the material of the bag.

Danielson is a professor at the University of Denver. He runs his own DNA laboratory and has testified in dozens of criminal cases. "DNA testing and other physical evidence is certainly a very, very important part of any criminal proceeding, but equally important is the process."

He said even though the bodies of Celeste and Bella were found submerged in oil tanks, investigators may still be able to detect trace DNA. "The DNA methods that we have are able to detect the tiniest trace quantities," said Danielson. "Because strangulation involves force that can increase the amount of skin cells."

If Watts' children were strangled, as the defense has suggested in previous motions, Danielson said there is likely still DNA around the neck, but interpreting that data could be tricky.
