Sunday 5/10/20

4:00 a.m. New Info
-According to MG, BM contacts her and asks her to get a crew together to head to Broomfield for the job. MG stated that BM sounded like he had the worst night of his life. ?
-It was first reported that BM was on the road driving to Broomfield when he began texting MG. Later reports said BM actually pulled up outside MG’s house and texted her from there.
-Was BM actually at/in MG’s House that morning at 4:00 a.m.?

5:00 a.m.: Conflicting Info
-BM told LE that he leaves SM sleeping and heads to a job in Broomfield, CO approximately 3 hours from his home in Maysville. The job allegedly consists of a repair to a wall that BM had completed the previous September and that had structural problems.

A.M. Exact time unknown:
-BM checks into the HIE in Broomfield.
-JP confirms Salida job with BM. (JP)

5:46 p.m.:
-SM is reported missing by a neighbor. SM’s daughters allegedly contacted her and said they were worried because they hadn’t been able to reach their mother. Exact details are unclear, but neighbor checked the house and did not find SM but noted her car was there. ETA THE FOLLOWING INFO SHOULD BE ATTRIBUTED TO PE NOT TD: The neighbor then allegedly contacted BM and he asked her to go back and check if her bike was there. The neighbor checked, returned home, and called BM on her landline and told him the bike was gone. BM asked her to call LE.

Approximately 6:00 p.m.:
-BM started home to Maysville. (TD)
-LE arrives at the Morphew home where they are met by the neighbor who reportedly told them that SM had not returned from a bike ride.
-LE begins a search. Dog teams from the prison and County SAR teams are called in. (CCSO)

After 6:00p.m.?: (Time not confirmed)
-JP, MG, and a third worker arrived at the HIE in Broomfield. It is not clear if all 3 travelled together. JP and MG both report that there was an intense smell of chlorine in the room and several wet towels on the floor. JP stated that it looked like someone had laid down on the bed, on top of the bedspread. MG stated that the bed looked like it had been slept in and remade.

Approximately 6:10 p.m.
-BM let workers know that he had left for a family emergency and that they were on their own. Workers allegedly found some of BM’s tools in a “hotel cart”. MG stated they looked like a bunch of tools from the back of BM’s truck. Both JP and MG indicated they had neither the correct tools nor the materials to do the job.

Sometime before 9:00 p.m. :
-LE allegedly finds SM’s bike down a hill about a quarter of a mile from her home. (Never verified by LE). There is no sign of SM. The Morphew home is allegedly sealed off.
-Friend(s) of BM arrive at search area (unverified)

Approximately 9:00 p.m.:
-BM arrives home.
-Friend(s) tell BM that SM’s bike was found and that LE mishandled the scene/evidence. (BM to TD)

(At some point, either Sunday night or Monday, volunteer firefighters were told not to participate in the official searches. BM told TD in a later video that his friend tried to stop LE from mishandling the evidence, which may have been the reason that they were not allowed to participate further.)

Monday 5/11/20

Time unknown:
-Concrete foundation is poured at the Salida dig site.

A.M.:
-Search resumes after overnight break. Over 100 LE are eventually involved including LE on foot, drones, divers, aircraft, SAR, Swift Water Rescue units, and various canines.
-BM calls MG crying and tells her SM is missing and that either a mountain lion got her or she was abducted. He stated they were going up the mountain to search. He tells MG and JP to stay in Broomfield and wait for supplies to be delivered for the job.

P.M.:
-AM arrives in town to help look for his sister, meets with BM and some friends, and they formulate a plan to search for SM the following day.

Tuesday 5/12/2020

A.M.:
-LE continue their search. No request for volunteers was made.
-BM, AM, and friends divide into teams to search. They were not allowed to search where LE was actively searching, but could cover area already searched. AM and BM we’re on separate teams. At one point, a member of AM’s team separated from the group. They backtracked to try to find him. He was later located back at the home where BM was staying. (On the following Thursday, 5/14/2020, a personal article, (now believed to be SM’s bike helmet), belonging to SM, was found about 20 yards from the trail where AM’s team was searching. Were they meant to find it? Was it placed there by the disappearing team member?)

Exact time unknown:
-MG, JP, and possibly one other person arrived back in Salida after no supplies were delivered to complete the job in Broomfield.
-MG was allegedly approached by two individuals connected to BM, TN and GD, who told her she would not be paid for her time in Broomfield because it would look like hush, hush, money. MG also implied that she was asked not to cooperate with LE or turn over her phone.

8:00 p.m.:
-BM was observed by an employee of the Poncha Market digging in a trash can. (The market had closed at 7:00 p.m.) Upon being questioned, BM states he is looking for a bike helmet.
-Shortly thereafter, BM taps on market window and when they let him in he stated that his wife was missing. When asked for a description he wrote a note on a crumbled receipt. The note said:

Baby Blue bike
helmet

Biking clothes

(No further description)

By Tuesday or Wednesday, CCSO has asked CBI and FBI for assistance."
Fantastic! Thank you so much!!!

If not now, then when?

When might the AA be made public?
Current projection for release is stated in the judge's order as 7 days after 8-24-21, so 8-31-21 if we have to wait until after the prelim.

What the what?
19057 > 19045
Puma Path > Monarch River Drive
Historical Landmark?
What?
I would classify it as a home with history !

Fantastic! Thank you so much!!!
You are welcome. There may have been a revision posted adding DSI mid Saturday afternoon & editing some points still in question such as the sandwich shop visit. And SM's sister Melinda (MB2) rec'd a text from SM early Friday morning that she has talked about publicly.

They are likely victims of his manipulation ... manipulation with regard to the convenient camping trip and Mothers Day calls to their mother. Which could be directly related to the crime. Get the girls out of the way. And get the girls to discover that their mother is no longer around for their texts/calls.

And potentially victims of further manipulation, if they are to be called to the stand during the trial and he pre-influences them further.

Sadly, manipulation is not a crime in and of itself. Giving someone a camping trip so you can have the family home to yourself while you do something illegal is not in and of itself a crime. If it were, my gosh would Barry have been charged with way more individual crimes.

Perfect. Thank you for finding it. I looked quickly and ended up on a call with my brother that lasted over an hour! Great timeline from @OldCop. We may be able to fill in some blanks.

Owners must be legally able to apply for a new street address number if there is some major negative past event associated with a residence. In the Jennifer Dulos case, the owner of the luxury home Jennifer had been renting for herself and the children in New Canaan, CT acquired a new address number for that home subsequent to Jennifer's abduction and murder there.

Someone made sure that the public know whose home it was, by making it a clearly marked and identified 'historic site' on Google.

And the alleged perpetrator is allowed contact with his daughters. To me, as victims, this could impact any testimony they may give. Perhaps they should be shielded from his potential influence if the judge's deep concerns about them being harmed are valid. The wolf within the family may be worse than the wolf pack of media, etc. outside the family! JUST MY OPINION

I wonder how much lattitude he has to contact them. Or if they are the ones who primarily would have to initiate the contact by requesting a jail visit or by calling him.

I haven't watched any of the recent stuff, but he also doesn't appear to be very knowledgeable about the pre-trial legal maneuverings IMO. Lots of misinterpretation of the complaint, inaccurate speculation about how the defense attorneys are being paid, etc. That's not very surprising, pre-trial motions and the like aren't really part of a detective's job description. But I think people take his opinion more seriously because of his LE background, so I wish he'd put some more effort into being accurate and fact-checking some of his speculation in those areas.

For analysis of the motions, the Denver defense attorney that got linked a while ago seems much more informed. Which isn't surprising since that's his job.

It is not always easy to listen to him, but in comparison to younger, technology-savvy YouTubers, CM is a gentleman.
And I’ll be watching his videos, if only for this reason.

I wonder if Barry was expecting somebody to notice she was missing at a much later time than what played out, or did he expect the neighbour to notice as quick as she did? He may have expected to have more time to clean up and dispose of evidence/the body than he actually did.

  • #692
My guess is it was something fairly simple and he just needed to use some garage workspace or a tool or two of their's and since he'd subbed for them before he was comfortable stopping there and they probably didn't mind. I doubt it was a major repair especially since he forgot about it and the implication was that it was something relatively quick that he was capable of doing himself. I personally don't think whatever it was is a big deal except it does pinpoint another spot on the Saturday timeline.
Maybe the bobcat repair included a power washing....DSI surely does that with their heavy equipment?

Excellent timeline info. thank you. One thing, the 4pm sighting of both SM and BM at the sandwich shop....together. That would need some serious verification...The last physical sighting of SM is a critical piece of this puzzle.

Saturday 5/9/20
11:30 p.m
.:
-A neighbor of a home being built in Salida hears heavy machinery running for about a half hour. BM has been hired to do prep work for a foundation pour at this site. This is the same site where he is also prepping the “beach area”.

Monday 5/11/20
Time unknown
:
-Concrete foundation is poured at the Salida dig site.

********************************

I wish LE had got to this site before the foundation was poured. I have seen the pics of the big square they cut out of it, and understand they used ground penetrating radar to go over the site, but it just seems like the most logical place where Suzanne may be buried. And I wonder if she may have been missed.
Especially if she was 'distributed' in several different areas under the foundation (sorry, don't know how else to say that), and/or placed quite deep, and/or had a big rock placed on top of her before the soil was replaced.

Ground-penetrating radar
Dry sandy soils or massive dry materials such as granite, limestone, and concrete tend to be resistive rather than conductive, and the depth of penetration could be up to 15 metres (49 ft). However, in moist or clay-laden soils and materials with high electrical conductivity, penetration may be as little as a few centimetres.

I wonder if Barry was expecting somebody to notice she was missing at a much later time than what played out, or did he expect the neighbour to notice as quick as she did? He may have expected to have more time to clean up and dispose of evidence/the body than he actually did.

Interesting thought. I’d love to hear more about that theory.

IMO, he was expecting SM to be reported missing sooner. I think the daughters were originally planning to be home sooner and BM was expecting them to be the ones to report it and mention that SM might have gone on a bike ride.

But given the chlorine smell of the hotel room and condition it was in, you might be right.

I think the AA will fill in a lot of gaps as to what BM was doing in Broomfield that day and I’m looking forward to learning about that.

Agreed. But you’d think the FBI would have the competence to find her if they strongly believed she was buried there.

The work Friday night (as mentioned by MG) and the work Saturday night (as mentioned by the neighbor) May have just been BM completing the job because he knew concrete had to be poured on Monday and he cut the day short on Saturday and had his alibi set up for Sunday.

If chlorine was purchased at 5pm/6pm, I wonder if SM wasn’t killed shortly there after and the 7pm - 11pm window was when BM hid the body. Perhaps he then goes over to the Salida site at 11:30pm to get the work done so that concrete can be poured and then spends the remainder of Saturday night into Sunday cleaning the house with chlorine which is why it still smelled so strongly of chlorine when police where there Sunday evening. It would have only been 12-14 hours at that point.

Not suggesting that anyone was incompetent. Just saying that they would have had to dig that entire foundation up, and then dig all the soil to do the most thorough job.
The ground penetrating radar has its limitations.
No doubt they did the best they could, without destroying the foundation and significantly delaying the building of the house.

There has been many a search where a missing person's remains have been missed, and then discovered much later - in already-searched territory.

A couple of examples:
Missing woman's body found 28 years later, behind false wall - CNN
Daniel O'Keeffe: Family friend explains missing Geelong man's body was found in 'tight space', after death deemed not suspicious

It seems very strange to suddenly go finish a job after murdering your wife. With a missing wife, not completing the site would have been forgiven (if that was what was required), and daylight hours would seem more appropriate to complete a job. Given noise restrictions.

Exactly what I was wondering. They are singled out as victims as are the witnesses yet they are allowed to be in contact with him. Possibly they don't know that the knowledge they possess is incriminating? If the judge wanted all witnesses according to @Boxer quoted, why wouldn't all siblings, children etc. be listed as protected?

I imagine there is something big we know nothing about. This piece of the puzzle doesn't fit for me.
I think they were singled out because the defense specifically highlighted concerns about them in their argument that the affidavit remain sealed. Barry knows what's in the Affidavit and he doesn't want his daughters hearing all the horrible details about what he did and all the lies he told. Keeping the affidavit sealed will give him a chance to "explain" things to them on his own time.

The judge did say that all victim's and witnesses rights should be protected, but I think the defendant is particularly concerned about his daughters, and the judge agreed.

If they are still in denial, or have believed the stories Barry has been telling them for so long, then learning the truth may come as a huge shock and they may need time to absorb all the information. Meanwhile, Suzanne's siblings have had almost a year.

Imo

I wonder how much lattitude he has to contact them. Or if they are the ones who primarily would have to initiate the contact by requesting a jail visit or by calling him.

Good question.

I think he probably had the house cleaned up before he left that morning. It may have taken him longer than expected to hide the body, though, since he barely got any work done at the jobsite. He apparently still had time to take a shower at the hotel, and maybe even take a nap. Imo
